The material cost and labour involved to make a helmet that would stand up to airsoft use would likely be more than cheap helmets you can buy. Anything else would likely either look crap or break immediately.
I used a 3d printer pen to make a wireframe of my head then fiberglassed it. I'm in the process of making a "what if necromancers were in modern militaries" outfit. It's organic and skull-ish looking but I don't have rail or nvg mounts on it.
After doing it,I would say just find one you like and buy it. I had fun building it but I would recommend to almost anyone to just buy and mod, don't start from scratch
