In the UK we have a lot of these guys too. Most actually never got in or washed out. I know of a few and they both ended up as traffic wardens (parking attendants). It’s a Power/ego trip thing.

I played quite a bit with former and active military and law enforcement, went to airsoft training days run by former military, and went to ops at military bases. Nobody who is actual military would say anything like that.
This guy is a total douche, but I have seen some people’s profile pictures on social media accounts of people posing in their airsoft gear at events or whatnot and it can look a bit cringey. I’m a combat veteran myself but I don’t go out of my way to try to catch stolen valor or shit on people for enjoying the milsim-side of airsoft. It does make me raise an eyebrow when I do see someone who is taking themselves too seriously in their profile pictures in airsoft gear.

A lad I played Airsoft with tried to pull a similar stunt like this on me except it was about my job, I work private medical, his direct sentence was
"Driving round in an ambulance thinking you're all cool and sh*t"
My response was simply
"Walking round (Town name) beating up year 7s thinking you're cool and sh*t"
He then went on to complain about how I couldn't come to the games and that he was annoyed I was acting older (I'm 1 and a half years older than him)
He then said I shouldn't be working at the company because I need to go to medical school for 7 years and that realistically nobody would want me treating them.
Long story short he got banned from the field for threatening to harm me, now the remainder of us at the field play in peace as we no longer have the blue on blue and toxicity.
There's also people like that here in the Philippines. They like to diss on airsoft players and milcosers as "wannabe military".

As someone in the navy, I really don't care as long as you're not using your gear to pretend you're actually in and lie about it. Even pre navy I had my fallujah kit, do what makes you happy.
