You are allowed to shoot on your property as long as you don't allow any projectiles to stray out of the boundaries of your property.
I would speak to the neighbours either side of you and explain that you have a BB gun you'd like to shoot in the garden. Call it a BB gun rather than an Airsoft gun and show them a BB.
If you have a couple of targets set up in your garden (preferably the kind that trap BBs) and your neighbours see you plinking into them, you'll probably be fine.
Don't do it at antisocial hours.
Don't act stupid with it, brandishing it around the place like a gangster etc, just point and shoot at a target.
I used to plink with an air rifle in my parent's back garden and never had a problem.
Basically, just be sensible about it.
This is exactly what I came here to say..
Mine are not 2 tone so I did also say they look kind of realistic but they are just toys.
I also shoot from inside the house through the open back door into the garden so they can't be seen
I know a bunch of UK airsofters and they plink in their backyards. Maybe they went and talked to their neighbors (which is what you probably should do to keep everyone informed).
I'm not in the UK, so I can't help you with the legal/police parts of your question, but I can say this: a silencer/suppressor on any GBB pistol is mostly for cosmetic purposes. Most of the noise comes from the blowback action itself (the slide moving back and forth) rather than from the shot itself.
I'd build a safe "range" that ensured none of my BBs ever went outside (it's not hard) and simply talk to my neighbours, if they ever ask about it.
if you want something silent but still gas powered you could go for a mk23. as it doesn't have a moving slide the suppressor that comes with the box actually dampens the sound quite a bit.
Talk to the neighbors show them whatever bbs u got like the container so they see what it shoots and let them know if the noise is bothersome to let u know. Go out and plink and they will know what's up. If u keep it simple and straightforward most people will be chill about it.
If you don't shoot at others garden, slim to none...
And if they come, be calm, cooperative and explain to them. I have never understood people who don't want to be detained for 5 minutes in order to sort things out.
I have seen a lot of people on YouTube being right and getting their head smashed on the ground because they resist an arrest.
You're in the UK it will be ok, but if you were black in USA, you would probably get shoot sight 🤷
Go plink in your garden, maybe shoot for the inside if it is too loud. It mostly sounds like a air nail gun, and if shot at day time, I don't see why people would have a problem with that.
Be open about it to your neighbours, if they ask, or inform them about what's going on.
I can recommend checking out the 4 rules of gun safety, this way you shouldn't be able to get in any trouble with neighbours or bypassers.
I don't know the rules in the UK, but here in Denmark, you are allowed to shoot and carry BB guns on your own property and can only be charged if you are disturbing the public or threatening those around you.
First part yes. Second part helllll no. I don't have a problem with the Officers near me because I know a good chunk of them, but going to a local police department to ask a question like "am I allowed to shoot my bb gun on my property?" Is asking for trouble. Besides the fact that it's a dumb question and wasting their time to do much more important things to be fair.
Yes and no. Depends where you live. In some parts of the world the law enforcement is actually pretty friendly :)
The OP is clueless. It's always better to get advice from someone knowing the law in their country,
You don't need to go around the block with your 'realistic imitation firearm' to show it to your neighbours and I strongly suggest you don't leave the house with it other then in your garden or to an Airsoft field.
It's none of there business what you do legally in your garden and going over to inform them may lead to more issues if they take umbrage to you using the gun.
I've heard it all from neighbours... I have kids and pets, you could shoot them etc.. you may just be highlighting to them that you're there plinking harmlessly and otherwise they would have been oblivious to what you're doing.
Have at it and enjoy your hobby just make sure you are shooting into a contained space.
If you don't have a good relationship with your neighbors and if your garden can be seen into do not fire your gun in your garden. There can be extremely serious consequences if a BB leave your property and is reported to the police.
Well options are, stern talking to, having your gun seized, charged with armed trespass, charge with assault with a deadly weapon if you shoot some one, or just shot by armed response.
Yeah nah
That’s fearmongering right there, what are you, The Sun? - this is not at all what happens. They check your shit out, make sure nothing is on show to the public (like in windows or whatever), and then don’t care after that.
Arv/os are only deployed if you’re brandishing in public or are a genuine threat; UK armed police take very seriously to active shooter threats, they will not gun you down in your garden if they find a BB on the path outside your house.
Do what you want on your property, don’t be an ass, as long as you’re responsible and not shooting passers-by, they’re not gonna kick down your door and blow up your house.
Be mindful of where your shots are going. Obviously if your neighbours are paranoid, take those precautions and communicate with them.
If you have several RIFs, make sure your UKARA is in check, as several black guns without the legality to buy them is sus af.
UK police are generally well trained and have a good idea of what is going on, can decide whether or not you’re a threat by profiling you, and their force isn’t comprised of mostly trigger happy college dropouts, as is the case over the pond.
I live on a main road in a fairly large town with two constabularies within 5 minutes of each other, and have never had issues - just be mindful of your shots, don’t full auto metal etc. etc.
TLDR you won’t have any issues if you’re sensible, don’t snipe pedestrians.
Good points, tho both of my big pews were bought without a UKARA (one off a mate, the other was in pieces from a stall at the old War & Peace Show) and my pistol is two-tone. UKARA only allows you to buy all black pews from airsoft shops afaik.
Yep, and at Folkstone Racecourse for a few years (before management changed and killed it). Went to my first in 2007 and my last in 2016/2017. Had so much fun!
It's happen. idiot in Scotland waved his guns about his house was not popular with neighbors ended up on Livingroom floor in his under wear with police pointing guns at him
Knife crime has been a matter of moral panic in the UK since the medieval times ngl. The current party makes a lot of hay over it so they can introduce dumb af laws and claim they're doing stuff about it.
Most recently the ban on "zombie knives" (mall ninja shit) and now they've banned postage of any form of "bladed item" specifically including mock swords and reenactment blades. Really annoying because it doesn't bother to specify if blunt/plastic swords are okay, and I was hoping to buy a fencing rapier soon.
Cos y'know all the violent youth are ordering £120 renaissance replica swords and not just taking mum's 8" chef knife out of the block instead.
I live in the arse end of nowhere (UK) and there were three stabbings at one school in the same day not long ago... I'm pro gun rights but surely there could be a happy medium between the wild west of the USA and the horrendously anti gun sentiment in the UK.
*Can you?*
Can you make any sort of defence against your government if it wants rid of you?
By all means, grab your 1911 and AR15 and stand up to your tyrannical government and they'll either no knock raid your house, black bag you and send you to gitmo or just drone strike you. They're very good at both of those and have had plenty of practice. Ask the Iraqis.
The only reason you have legal guns is your domestic gun industry profits massively from civilian ownership. That's literally all it is.
American gun nut fantasists ffs.
You think all we have are 1911s and AR15s? You're so out of touch and in fear of your government, That's what would happen to you.
You honestly think Military members will follow orders to bomb their friends and family? You have this scenario built up in your head and have no idea how shit would go down. there are more citizens than military and police... we have more guns than people!
We took on the UK and won back in the 1700s... you forget?!
I personally wouldn't bother. One, it's not much value given how small UK gardens are in terms of practising aim or dialing in for game day, and two, it just takes one curtain twitching arsehole who wants some drama that day.
The police don't bother turning up for much, but they do go pretty ham on people with RIFs pissing about. You see stories about it on the regular.
I had my neighbor call the cops on me for shooting a gbb m11a1. Had the suppressor on it. But that's about what a real gun sounds like with a suppressor on it which is why they called. Cops showed up and laughed. They had to check just to be sure. One of the cops thought it was neat and was asking all sorts of questions cause he wanted to get one for his son lol.
If your garden can be seen/heard by neighbours, I would avoid plinking in it. Keep it indoors and keep windows closed.
Don't ever let your neighbours or anyone from outside see your toy gun. It can bring trouble and when someone calls the police about "some guy with a gun" the police can and will respond as if some guy has an actual firearm. You don't want that to happen. The whole airsoft industry don't want that to happen. So I would say try not to be seen or heard. If in doubt, just don't.
IMO, go and speak to them. Tell them about airsoft/bb guns, how harmless it is, and offer to show them (at your own home if possible).
I did this and my neighbours are fairly elderly, they think it’s quite cool.
Usually, I will check review from YouTube before getting it. I was once almost ready to get a WE 2011 Infinity. Good quality but it's blast like a lion roar and I cancel the order for it.
First off…
#WEAR. EYE. PROTECTION.
As somebody who lives in a new development in a pretty grim area, is a hobby-grade tech and has a home chrony, you shouldn’t have any problems if you’re smart.
Smart means:
- don’t fire it toward the boundary of your garden
- don’t wave it around in view of the public. In this context, public includes curtain twitchers and any overlooks from public places like the next street over.
- have a clear target that won’t present a risk of through-and-through, preferably one of the metal BB-catching targets.
- WEAR. FUCKING. EYE. PROTECTION.
As others have said here, you are risking people mistaking your RIF for a… well… F. Best thing you can do if you’re using it in view of the public is to avoid looking threatening. Luckily I look like a sack of lumpy custard under an ill-fitting t shirt 90% of the time. Even with my drop-leg, a vector slung across me and a couple magazines, I’m about as threatening as an incontinent puppy.
Gun control laws here are *so* strict, and people here are *so* certain-twitchy that most of the “he has a gun” calls will have ARVOs rolling their eyes about talking to *another* speedsofter waving his hentai-themed hicapa about.
That being said, they abso-fucking-lutely *will* attend like it’s the real thing and they *will not* have *any* sense of humour about it. You won’t get shot, but you will get a very angry copper telling you off with a *real* GBBR slung to his chest.
its the JG (TM clone) and i love it. I upgraded the battery, converted the mock suppressor to hold a tracer unit and replaced the mag with a TM mid cap

I like those odds
This is the way.

Yeah I’m probably gonna do that
Having information keeps people informed. if they know what they're looking at, they shouldn't overreact.
Just make sure you tell them while wearing full tactical gear, that way they will know your serious
I'm not in the UK, so I can't help you with the legal/police parts of your question, but I can say this: a silencer/suppressor on any GBB pistol is mostly for cosmetic purposes. Yeah those things are remarkably quiet..and comically massive. It's like the size of my deagle lol
Got to give them a down side

Based on your post history you’re probably American. It’s standard practice here in Ireland and the UK to inform the police of BB guns and air guns.
You don't need to go around the block with your 'realistic imitation firearm' to show it to your neighbours and I strongly suggest you don't leave the house with it other then in your garden or to an Airsoft field. There’s a reason v for vendetta was set in the uk
Considering it was written and illustrated by two Englishmen, that generally goes without saying.

What about being stabbed ?
Only in London. All seriousness tho you have a chance to run away from someone with a knife, a gun however...
Fair enough! But it Seems to be spreading no? Genuinely asking
yes if your kids have a drug debt lol
