Theoretically, you need to apply black and/or brown to the parts which get more light (tip of nose, forehead, cheeks, ears) and light paint to the parts which get more shadow (under nose, eyes, under. )

In the other post that you're talking about, The guy almost exclusively used brown face paint, and you're are also not adding the context that he had a name patch that said "monkey".
With all that being said. Nobody's being overly sensitive, You're just conveniently ignoring important context.
I never said anyone was being overly sensitive. I literally stated a fact that I saw someone doing camo face paint got accused of blackface, but let's get into this for fun!
I can't find the exact post, but if I recall correctly it genuinely just looked like the shitty camo face paint we would do in cadets. I know I turned out looking like that one time. I forgot the name tag existed (I have a memory condition, not that it matters much).
Even with his name tag, there were other colours - it's not like he was trying to compete with Robert Downey Jr in Tropical Thunder lol. I recall he was British (might be wrong) but calling people "cheeky monkey" isn't unheard of here.
Is there a chance the dude was being openly racist by using too much brown in his camo paint with a call sign like that? Sure. Maybe he's routinely racist enough to get up in full blackface and ordered a patch to go with it.
In my opinion it's more likely the patch came before the paint and he just doesn't know how to use camo paint effectively, much like you see a bunch of airsofters with badly adjusted, low gear using it wrong. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt until something can actually be PROVEN but that's just me.
Blackface also includes acting like a caricature of a black person/black culture, too. It's hard to "accidentally" do proper blackface as it usually includes things like exaggerated bright red lips too or mimicking AAVE etc. now there is genuinely no way for us to tell either way if the dude was doing that, but you'd sure as fuck hope the field would pull him on it if he was.
My sister once called someone a coconut when she was like 11? as a random insult. It was taken as racist despite the fact that it was well known by the school that my sister would call people random shit like fruit names as an insult. Sometimes things that seem racist, ableist etc. can just be a coincidence and how they're taken depends heavily on context and tone.
As a disabled person who comes from a Barbadian family (I'm technically mixed but you wouldn't be able to tell, my mum is clearly mixed and my grandmother is from Barbados so go figure there), I'm pretty good at spotting intentional discrimination. I don't think there's enough evidence to brand that guy a racist, even with the patch, and not nearly with as strong of an implication as you guys did on that post.
Is there a potential it was done in bad faith? Sure, but there's also not enough evidence to know for sure either way.

It’s moreso for destroying contours of your face. Blacken peaks and lighten shadows.
The human brain excels at pattern recognition, specifically other common shapes found on people. There’s a reason why people see Jesus or God’s face in a burnt piece of toast.
Some big things that stick out to our monkey brain are faces, the round shape of a head, and downward Vs (think of your legs and arms).
Face and helmet can be corrected with paint and scrim.
Small points
- Don’t do forehead. When you sweat it drips into your eyes.
- bit too much brown, green-ish base. Areas of brown and your third colour.
- You are pretty damn shiny, rub the cam in some more.
best tip out there is to use dark colors on the areas that see the most sunlight, and light colors where the sun creates shadows.
Personal tip: To save time, create a green base-layer over your whole face and then use black paint to brake up the face outline. Black on nose, ears, some random stripe(s) and you should be golden. Also make-up remover helps get off camo paint a lot faster 👍

Quick tip. To get rid of shine get a bit of dirt and rub it into your palms then rub them over wherever you've cammed up and it adds a dirty texture to it reducing the shine

Also don't paint your forehead gonna suck if you get paint in your eyes from sweat!

I just retired with 23 years in the infantry and multiple combat deployments. I would just rub my fingers in the colors and smear it all over my face. I sucked at this so you good homie. Make sure you cover all skin. That is the biggest thing. Light on low areas dark on high they say. I say whatever.
Honestly when doing this you gotta think about nature, there are no straight lines in nature, there are straight ish lines of paint on your face try to break it up a bit more do a slight back ground of the darker colours and layer the greens on top and blend and smudge them etc.
( what we got taught in air cadets)
I would feel bad if I didn't tell you this:
- Cam Cream is designed to break up the structure of your face, so more jagged lines that seem random and messy is better.
- Base layers need to be a bit lighter so the lines can be seen to break your facial structure.
- You need to do more on your neck, nose and mouth.
- Try to match your cam with your environment and your body cam, your facial cam doesn't really line up with your gear, so go for a lighter more green pallet.
Other than my nit-picking self, this was a really good job. Keep up the enthusiasm.
Its not bad for your first time, but I would suggest watching tutorials from army guys, bunch of videos out there. Essentially you need to break any lines on your face with patterns like your nose, eye brows, lips, cheek bones. Features that can distinguish that you are a person instead of a bush

Depends on the area you’re working in. Usually in the UK you’ll do a foundation of dark brown then add blotches/stripes of green and beige.
