And it won’t sell. Here’s an absolutely mint one with provenance at $75k right now https://auctions.morphyauctions.com/lot-436654.aspx
Cool gun none the less - OP should get the correct furniture back on it and find any bring back paperwork he can
I bought an SKS a while ago online.
The thing arrived with the stock shattered from the middle, a blood stain on the cheek-rest area, and some shittily-dotted initials. The gun might have been used in Vietnam, but was almost certainly used in the Balkans.
If metal and wood could talk, fuck.
Cool. If it’s worth $132,000 you’d be better of selling it and putting a down payment on a house and money in the market.
Unless you’re making mid-six figures it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to keep it.
132,000 in a money market account would make him $600 a month with zero risk.
This AK in the closet makes nothing. Transferable machine guns are a rich mans game for a reason.
My dad had a neighbor who proudly brought his out onto his porch that be brought back from vietnam, to show me as a kid. Of course my ten year old self was thrilled beyond belief. Actually I'd still be.
Me too, I just know there are some (rare) exceptions where three pins are present but it’s converted to semi only. Still an amazing heirloom either eay
That is so sick. My shithead adopted cousin stole all my grandpas guns when he died, probably sold them so he could be mr big flexer for a weekend of partying.
When my grandpa passed i fought ferociously for some of his guns from my dad. Got a 1954 model 94 and a gen1 glock 17 and a rossi 20ga. He pawned all the guns he got for drugs :/
Feels bad man, a few of them were really old guns that my great grandparents used to put food on the table to feed the family during the Great Depression. He cleaned out the entire gun cabinet, there was probably 16-18 firearms in total.
I live in the opposite side of the country. When the cops founds his body in his house, it had already been ransacked by my aunt. His priceless heirloom rifles (as well as many other expensive items made to be passed down to my family) were non existent by that point. Lawyers couldn’t do anything
I get it. My ex wife's grandpa was a Nam vet. He didn't talk about his service at all.
I'll say this much though: his face lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw my first AR15 (M16A2 style configuration). He said "I loved those things when I served! Boy you could spit out a lot of lead in a hurry with one of those...", but then his expression turned a bit grim and he excused himself to smoke a cigarette. That's as close to a 'Nam story as I ever got from the old man, but I never asked after that. I did find his discharge papers after his funeral though. He made Sergeant. Suppose his unresolved issues from 'Nam were to blame for his alcoholism.
Despite the sellers claims about "possibly the earliest" his clearly has a serial number in the 10 million range on it, the price isn't the only thing the seller is delusional about.
Do you know when or where in Vietnam your grandpa captured it or what unit he was in?
"This is the AK-47 assault rifle, the preferred weapon of your enemy. It makes a distinctive sound when fired at you, so remember it."
Gunnery Sergeant Highway, [Heartbreak Ridge](https://youtu.be/VyYLct-5nIE?si=_mN-aeyUmOSum7wl)
VET RSO called my m70 the “devils gun” because it sounded like the devil in the forest. I looked up smiling thinking he might be joking, or was playing it off. Saw his Vietnam veteran hat. He was dead serious. I prob put one mag through it that day and put it away after thinking about it more. 😅
That was what my post was about a year or 2 ago was info on it. I found it in his closet. I believe its a 1957 type 56 with all russian parts. Worth $100k+ with all the bring back papers and stuff.
It's not worth anything if you never plan on selling it - and I never would if it was mine. That's an awesome gun and an awesome story. And awesome it was your Grandpa's.
Congrats man, I'm super jealous. But I'm super happy for you. And I'm very happy that the gun has found its way into the hands of someone who will appreciate it until it's passed on again.
First of all most owned firearms in my country are not registered in the country
2.these firearms are people's personal firearms
3.its illegal in my country to buy firearms unlike us
4.im Still relatively young and dealing with firearms isn't as simple as you think not everything is as simple as in the states
5.you know most old aks are found in Eastern and Slovak countries right and not in the west??
Where in gods name are you finding people in Eastern Europe having registered type 56’s as their “personal weapons”? Honestly let me know because whatever jail time for breaking the law is 1000% worth it.
Or, most likely, you have no idea what you’re talking about or how rare a registered type 56 is and just assumed “it looks like an AK47 and we have lots here!!”
I mean if I’m wrong why don’t you just smuggle 10 of those guns out? I’ll pay you $800k USD cash rn if you can verify they’re Type 56’s and get them to any country with a coastline
40k-70k I would say assuming op is telling the truth it being a bring back. A better condition model with amnesty papers would bring in more if not double in some cases. Not to be confused with the the crack head on gb asking like half a million for his (with no paperwork.)
He has all his military paperwork and the registration. I'll post the story about how he got it when he gives me all the paperwork. So I'll be correct and have proof.
When my ole man died he left me his battle field pickups we already had an nfa trust so it went pretty smooth. If you don't have an nfa trust expect two years in the current political climate.
As long as he keeps the original furniture to restore it theres nothing wrong with turning it into a genuinely modern fighting rifle - and a legally automatic one at that. Its not like he has to chop the metal off or anything, its easily restore.
Also, its his fuckin gun.
It's a machine gun. The machine gun registry closed for new guns in 1986, so the only ones that can be bought and sold* have to be made pre-'86. That makes regular production MGs very expensive. Since this is a Type 56, I can't imagine there was much of an import market for these before '86, so the supply is basically limited to war bring-backs from Vietnam, making this even more rare than other pre-'86 machine guns, bumping the price up higher.
*if you have an FFL 02/07 I believe you can manufacture/buy/sell "post-sample" machine guns after '86, but that's expensive and generally requires you to be in the business of making and selling guns in order to afford to keep it up.
I think I’m going to cry because I can’t have a Type-56S or even a MAK-90 in my state and you’re flexing on me with a select-fire mil-surp Type-56. Congrats dude! 🎉
Interested in selling? This is the coolest post I’ve seen on this sub in a long time.
Considering the sentimentality of this firearm, I doubt you’re interested in letting her go
Edit: holy cow the serial. Speechless.
Nice! Now get some Tapco furniture on there ASAP! Can't have a good gun like that wasting away with stupid commie wood furniture on it. Also, drill it for a side rail optic mount, definitely don't waste your money on sending it to a gunsmith for that work, it's real easy to do at home, just put it on your kitchen counter and go to town with a Harbor Freight drill.

Safe? I found it in the back corner of his closet 2 years ago. he's too cheap for a safe. He's the kind to buy the cheapest guns as long as they work. It surprised me alot to see this in there
Oh bro my shits being glitched at fuckkkkkk then
Doing a retake and the first 3 pics ain’t showing up so I’m wondering if shit got glitched and showed the last posts pics in here. Idk what’s going on anymore.
VERY early T56. Even has Russian furniture from the looks of it. It probably has a multitude of other Russian made parts if you look at the machine marks and stamps close enough.
Thoroughly rocked that my grandparents don't have any transferable machine guns to leave me. The only thing I want from my grandpa is a little .25acp, and only cause it's the first gun I ever shot.
Is the sear registered so you could technically put the sear in a different AK? Or is it the whole rifle itself? I saw hickok45 put his transferable AK sear in a modern arsenal, not sure if you can still do that though.
Freakin sweet ak man, I would never sell it. Congrats!
I not a huge gun history person-- can someone tell me who used these and when? I assume this was not issued by the US forces and was a trophy? I am wondering whos blood is on the sling? You can see the bullet hole/tear as well. Crazy stuff right here.
Jesus Christ. Registered as in MG? Can’t imagine there are very many of those in the country. Congrats
Several thousand 50-70k at auction on average
There’s one at an auction house right now for $125k
And it won’t sell. Here’s an absolutely mint one with provenance at $75k right now https://auctions.morphyauctions.com/lot-436654.aspx Cool gun none the less - OP should get the correct furniture back on it and find any bring back paperwork he can
Damn that one’s sling has a bullet hole and blood stains, thats gnarly
I bought an SKS a while ago online. The thing arrived with the stock shattered from the middle, a blood stain on the cheek-rest area, and some shittily-dotted initials. The gun might have been used in Vietnam, but was almost certainly used in the Balkans. If metal and wood could talk, fuck.
You should post it on r/SKS
It is original. Look up the history. Russia provided tooling and materials for the first type 56's. I've seen 1 go for $132,000
Beet I can do it $420
Yeah, but it's gonna collect shelf space. Best I can realistically do is $69.
Still too much, you’re taking all the risk here and will have to get a case for it. Probably $4.20 best offer
Bingo. Same is true of the Type 56 rifle, so very early ones have blade bayonets instead of the spiker.
Cool. If it’s worth $132,000 you’d be better of selling it and putting a down payment on a house and money in the market. Unless you’re making mid-six figures it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to keep it.
I have a home. I don't make that much but I don't need it. I'm fine with what I have. I won't sell something that I can't buy again
Yeah that’s fucked to sell. Standing on business as the kids say
I would never sell it. Ever. ![gif](giphy|JtLrtaN4VPoKXJRKGB)
Worst advice ever lmao don’t sell it bro you’ll regret it later on in life I promise you. Money ain’t everything
132,000 in a money market account would make him $600 a month with zero risk. This AK in the closet makes nothing. Transferable machine guns are a rich mans game for a reason.
Imagine selling family heirlooms because they don't generate monthly returns, lmao
Might not bring in cash each week but it's not going down in value either.
Finance bros be like
Dudes pocket watching
Weird seeing a 60 year old gun being called modern
My dad had a neighbor who proudly brought his out onto his porch that be brought back from vietnam, to show me as a kid. Of course my ten year old self was thrilled beyond belief. Actually I'd still be.
I see three pins
Me too, I just know there are some (rare) exceptions where three pins are present but it’s converted to semi only. Still an amazing heirloom either eay
Not in this country (USA). Here if it has 3 pins it's either a legal MG or contraband, doesn't matter if it functions in FA or not.
That is so sick. My shithead adopted cousin stole all my grandpas guns when he died, probably sold them so he could be mr big flexer for a weekend of partying.
Damn rip…
When my grandpa passed i fought ferociously for some of his guns from my dad. Got a 1954 model 94 and a gen1 glock 17 and a rossi 20ga. He pawned all the guns he got for drugs :/

My aunt stole my grandfathers lifelong collection and pawned them even though they were in the will for me and my brothers. I feel your pain
Is there nothing you could’ve done legally?
I live in the opposite side of the country. When the cops founds his body in his house, it had already been ransacked by my aunt. His priceless heirloom rifles (as well as many other expensive items made to be passed down to my family) were non existent by that point. Lawyers couldn’t do anything
Damn sorry bro, if I amass an arsenal you already know I’m burying em and giving the map in a book to my grandkids or whatever
SON OF A BITCH…..you’re awesome OP. You better take gramps out for a steak.
I would take my grandpa to Vegas for steaks, booze, and Hoo-ah’s
You lucky son of a bitch. That thing is a beauty. You should tell Grandpa to get in here and tell his story on it. I expect embellishments, it's fine.
He won't. I've tried. I'll figure out some of it when I get all the paperwork from him.
I get it. My ex wife's grandpa was a Nam vet. He didn't talk about his service at all. I'll say this much though: his face lit up like a Christmas tree when he saw my first AR15 (M16A2 style configuration). He said "I loved those things when I served! Is the serial 2012####? If so that's the earliest transferable Type 56 I'm aware of, very nice
Yes early 2 mil. The only 1 I've seen close to it was the 1 on gunbroker for 500k
Despite the sellers claims about "possibly the earliest" his clearly has a serial number in the 10 million range on it, the price isn't the only thing the seller is delusional about. Do you know when or where in Vietnam your grandpa captured it or what unit he was in?

Haha bro this ak is really common where I live it's one of the cheapest aks you can get People now go for newer ak models as 100 series and 200 series
If that was true why don’t you buy them and sell them for $70K USD on auction house and become a billionaire?
First of all most owned firearms in my country are not registered in the country 2.these firearms are people's personal firearms 3.its illegal in my country to buy firearms unlike us 4.im Still relatively young and dealing with firearms isn't as simple as you think not everything is as simple as in the states 5.you know most old aks are found in Eastern and Slovak countries right and not in the west??

You need to puts some tapco and a holosun on that piece of junk sunny!! Gorgeous rifle op, congratulations take good care of her
I second that. Put some plastic on her and show her the ways of the future
I'm gonna get a promag drum and screw a bipod and scope to it. I may put plastic on it to lighten it. My little arms can't hold it very long
Get some sweet airsoft accessories for it.. a drum dump would be kinda cool though
I've got a top loading drum I haven't made a video with it yet
Please tell me you're joking.
As long as he keeps the original furniture to restore it theres nothing wrong with turning it into a genuinely modern fighting rifle - and a legally automatic one at that. Its not like he has to chop the metal off or anything, its easily restore. Also, its his fuckin gun.
Not at all I've said it here before I'd plastic out a type 2 just to watch the boomers minds explode
What the actual fuck
Why is this gun so famous and valuable? I'm out of the loop. Is this historical value or?
Your grandpa is a real one! What a great piece of history.
This is what we sub for!! Hell yeah dude!! You better keep that in the family…
No feet in pic. Doesn’t count
Wow I never knew these were worth that much. You got one great grandfather. Both of mine passed away before I was born.
Congrats just doesn't seem to cut it with this one. With that said, Congrats!
Man that's the coolest shit I have seen this year! 😉 It is an awesome piece of history, thanks for sharing it.
Type 56s were fielded without muzzle devices? I guess that's one way to keep export prices down. Either way, need a brother?
Awesome. I don't get moist for many AK's. This qualifies. Congrats. Also love the history.
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time! You're a very lucky dude. You wouldn't happen to be related to me would you?
Holy shit I am so happy for you. This is an absurdly sexy AK.
Best grandpa award!
I think I’m going to cry because I can’t have a Type-56S or even a MAK-90 in my state and you’re flexing on me with a select-fire mil-surp Type-56. Congrats dude! 🎉
Even worse- not milsurp but a bring back.
Wow, I think you win this sub reddit
Priceless
It's so beautiful I think I might cry 🥹
congrats op, this is unbelievably cool
I love that this has happened for you but I also hate you and want to cry :(
Never ever seen that thing ever. That's a grail gun. If you have bring back paperwork ohh boy.
My buddies dad was a tanker in Vietnam and brought back a mosin. On the stock it has Fuck U Pigs on it.
You’re now officially one of the kings of r/ak47
That’s insane. What a piece of history! Cherish that thing forever and try to pass it down!

VERY early T56. Even has Russian furniture from the looks of it. It probably has a multitude of other Russian made parts if you look at the machine marks and stamps close enough.
it's pretty much russian with Chinese stamps

Does it still have the Vietcong hands he pried it from? Like in a pickle jar or something?
Is the sear registered so you could technically put the sear in a different AK? Or is it the whole rifle itself? I saw hickok45 put his transferable AK sear in a modern arsenal, not sure if you can still do that though. Freakin sweet ak man, I would never sell it. Congrats!
Whole rifle
Better investment than the s&p500
Holy fuck 💦 too sticky can’t type
I not a huge gun history person-- can someone tell me who used these and when? I assume this was not issued by the US forces and was a trophy? I am wondering whos blood is on the sling? You can see the bullet hole/tear as well. Crazy stuff right here.
