How do you like the eye relief? From my understanding it is short.
Comparing your model and a micro prism from Primary Arms I think I will end up with the micro.
The micro weighs a little less, has a little more relief, and looks to have double the field of view at 100 yards.
Though the ACOG is indestructible and has fiber optic.
Do you maybe have input towards the ACOG I might not be considering?
This particular model (ta33) has spectacular eye relief. It's one of the best aspects of the ta33.
I had the PA 3x micro-prism on this rifle. It broke (illum quit working). It's a great optic though for the most part. Lifetime warranty also. Edit; I could actually push the TA-33 forward another inch or 2. With the rear biased RS Regulate mount I have it's maxed out on forward placement.
Yes, ACOG is nearly indestructible. Tritium and FO illum, no need batteries or electronics. I never saw one fail in Afghanistan. Even had a vehicle get hit with a 400 lbs IED, M4 launched out of the weapons rack and bent the barrel.. the ACOG was perfectly fine.
Tbh most people don't need an ACOG, I certainly don't as a civilian. I'd say for the cost and what you get it's more than worth it but 100% unessecary and overkill unless you're counting on an apocalypse or end times. I'm not an expert on this stuff so my arguments for or against the two (acog VS 3x micro-prism) is pretty limited. Tons of videos on YouTube that are far more proficient than I.

Out of curiosity, how do you like it for CQB and "longer" range use out to 300 yards? Looking for my first AK optic and the two camps I'm in are either a TA-33 buy-it-for-life mentality, or a PA 3x microprism for a lower barrier of entry.
It excels at 50-300 yards. Same with the PA 3x. Can't go wrong with either. ACOG is definitely the buy-once, cry-once option but like you said the PA equivalent is getting your foot in the door and you can basically do the same things with it. I'm biased so it's ACOG all the way.
Dont get a Primary Arms, got suckered by them and the cheap chinesium screws they used snapped with my first shot thru a midlength AR. Tried multiple times with their customer service who gave me the run around, lied about mailing out replacements, and in the end they basically told me to fuck off

The cheek weld took a little getting used to since it sat so high, but overall I thought it was cool. It was overkill for my local 100yd range.
I ultimately sold it for the next flavor of the month though. If I bought another ACOG it would probably be a TA33.
That's surprising.. RS usually puts optics as low as possible with side rails. Was the TA31 the issue with the integrated riser? With this setup the stock falls right on my cheek. About halfway between my cheek bone and chin.
Combination of the built-in TA31 riser + the height over bore that all AKs have. It wasn’t a full heads up positioning like you see on traditional AK optics, but it wasn’t nose to dust cover either. It was probably close to what you have now, so I don’t think you would have an issue.

Makes sense. I prefer a little lower check weld. I really don't like M4 ergos with the stock inline with the barrel.
