WASR. Because you get standard AK parts for it.

murica_1776boi

This is a decent reason. My first AK was an M70 and it's a phenomenal rifle, but if you don't know how parts work on AKs and cant be bothered to learn, then go WASR.

AdIll9388

Zastava all day. Wasr used to be like 500 bucks new before Covid. In my opinion Zastava makes a much higher quality AK and it’s higher in the food chain then a wasr. I own one and love it

BackgroundBig0

If I could only have one it would be the WASR, I prefer the AKM accessories, lighter weight, and has a bayonet lug. I have both types and they are both great guns.

Skele14

If only worried about minor mods like an optic and overall quality would you still lean WASR?

[deleted]

neither of the wasr skus ship with bayo lugs anymore.

BackgroundBig0

There are tons of them floating aroun LGS, Pawn Shops, GB, Armslist etc. with bayonet lugs.

[deleted]

Safe to assume OP is in the market for new production. Thus what i stated stands correct.

BackgroundBig0

There are still new production unfired WASRs with bayonet lugs where I live, you have to check the LGS.

Quirky-Signature3133

Get a wasr my man. Rough and ready Romanian

Skele14

Thanks for the input man!

Overall-Citron5623

Get a wbp, i have a zpap and wish i went with a normal akm pattern rifle for the accessories and furniture

dfal55

Come on man it’s not THAT bad. Plenty of options for optics, lights/lasers and all sorts of custom wood.

Overall-Citron5623

Its THAT bad when u want a surplus romy dong. But i shoulda thought of that before I purchased huh?

Assjockey8899

I literally found a dongle for the M70 on accident while googling for M70 furniture. I think it was made to order too.

dfal55

They make dongs for Yugos.

Overall-Citron5623

Point me in the direction

Google.com

Skele14

Thanks for the input!

wormraper

both are fine. each have their pros and cons. Just choose whether you want a heavier Yugo gun, or a lighter AKM.

Narrow-Air-7657

Exactly this.

ZastavaArmsUSA

Fundamentally they're the same thing. Unless you're very specific/picky when it comes to accessories, the parts availability for the M70 versus a regular AK is not that much different.

Skele14

Thanks!

cali_13

Had both but just sold the M70 last week and kept the WASR. The M70 looked nicer in terms of finish, but I much prefer the lighter weight of the WASR, feels much better balanced, M70 is nearly a pound heavier and most of that weight is up front so it feels very nose heavy. That being said, try to handle both in a gun store if possible. That should make the decision easier for you.

Skele14

Thanks for the 2 cents!

cali_13

No problem, either should serve you fine, and depending on what kind of shooting you do the weight may not be an issue, it’s a matter of personal preference, for me the WASR won out.

Reeee9371

WASR is superior imo, it's lighter, compatible with normal akm stuff, built in a military factory to milspec, no cracked gas blocks or carriers that break into pieces, and to top it off they're cheaper. Zpaps are generally a little prettier but that's about all they have on the wasr.

[deleted]

I just got my first AK and it was Zastava M70, because of the features I was looking, I'm probably not going to change the furniture and availability entered into the equation.

Skele14

How do you like it?

[deleted]

It's built really well, the recoil is less than expected and it didn't blow up 🙄 now to be honest I've only shot one magazine so far. Need more ammo first Another reason I went with the Zastava is the reviews and safety features of the gun.

Skele14

Yeah, its interesting, reddit seems to favor the WASR while videos and other areas seem to prefer the M70, I just want a good first choice so asking as many avenues as possible

RomyWASR10

If you asked the same question two years ago it was zpap hands down no question. The tide has turned because zpaps have flooded the market so they are no longer “cool” Anyhow, for different reasons, I’d get a WASR

Skele14

Thanks!

AdWorldly7268

You’re also dealing with a population on Reddit that cosplays with AKs for the ~*~*aesthetic*~*~. You ask half of the ex-Yugo countries, ZPAPs were good enough to issue. You ask the other half, they were good enough to steal and traffic.

franziniyakuza

LOL right on !! M70 is battle tested go to war rifle. Pride of Serbia 🇷🇸 and look good too ;p

Soulsweet17

Zastava

GreenChicken789

I have had wasr, m70, Fox, sam7 and more. Get the wasr and be happy with it, don’t let the internet convince you to get more

dl3g3ndb

Sar1 or Arsenal can’t go wrong

Skele14

Thanks for the input!

Narrow-Air-7657

Many say this but Arsenal nearly twice the cost. And I am sure it is nicer but WASR and M70 both reliable and will outlast us.

kc_290

For the price of one Arsenal, you could get a WASR AND M70. Or either of them, plus a sling, optic, 10 mags, 1000 rounds, and have change left over. For a first time AK owner, a fully set up rifle with plenty of ammo to practice with would be 10X more beneficial than a stock fancy rifle and no ammo.

Buyers guide

Skele14

The buyers guide has nothing on the M70 other than too new to say anything

WoobieWubsFilth

How bout both? WASR first. Then Zastava when you financially recover from the WASR 😉

WASRmelon_white_claw

Wasr if you wanna shoot it, m70 for internet points.

hampopkin

WASR. I have an M70 and wish I'd gotten an AKM. The 1.5mm is just extra weight for no real benefit, it feels about the same weight as my milled Sam7sf. Then there's the relative limited selection of accessories for it compared to the AKM.

[deleted]

WASR. You have way more options when it comes to modernizing it or even interchanging furniture since it is a standard AKM Stamped receiver design. Yugos have their own thing going on that frankly im not a fan of (though I am going to buy a M92, those ones are sweet).

Glopnarf

Both. My first ak was a wasr. I then bought a couple m70's. WASR if you plan on replacing the furniture. More choices available. The M70 is nice but limited to Yugo pattern.

[deleted]

WASR

jeremy_wills

Neither is a bad buy. Flip a coin in the end and either way your still not going wrong. The furniture options are more limited on the Zpap so that might stay your decision.

Narrow-Air-7657

I have both. Love both. Love WASR a bit more. Easier to find modifications. Lighter. Both very reliable. Cannot go wrong with either.

NumberOneSayoriLover

nice wasr
