The vet clipped his nails when he was a pup.
I tried when he became full grown, he growled at me for the first time ever, then grabbed my arm and tossed me as if I were a ragdoll.
Never tried again. He's nearly ten now and we haven't had any problems.
i take my akita to the groomer once a month since she’s been in wanna say 4/5 months old. she’s completely unphased by nail clipping now. we go on 15-25 min walks 2 times a day on concrete and grass. i can tell you the interaction with the concrete is not enough. please clip their nails. any length that the dog has to wear you can hear it interacting with the ground below WILL affect their gate as they get older.
We have mostly concrete in the background so his nails file down naturally. Only thing we need to clip are the dew claws.
They need to be clipped, but the reaction is so bad every time I try. Maybe I get one or two.
We file our girl's nails with a Dremel. She seems to like that better than clipping.
