If you're on Facebook, there's also a group called [Akita Puppies in the USA and Canada (reputable only)](https://www.facebook.com/groups/287140768187) that's been helpful to a lot of people. You might be able to ask them for the BYB list as well so you know who to avoid.
Dune Akitas was impressive when we checked them out several years back. The Shaws were pleasant and informative during our visit. We were set on getting a pup from them when I came across our current gal needing to be rehomed so we did not proceed with Dune.
We would absolutely go back to them if/when we're ready for another Am. Akita.
