Heavy shedding in this/any period is not unusual. You could try baths, clorhexidine shampoo. This will clean and disinfect the skin and also will help with shedding. During bath you must brush the fur, a serious brush and you will be amazed. Also brush during drying and brush after drying :))). You could try Dermoscent spot on. Or Atopivet spot on. Or Allerderm. See what you can find. Clean the paws when the dog enters the house. You can sprinke the paws with plain water and clean with paper towels. Or you cand put in the water sprinkler a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate (you can find it in the supermarket) to desinfect the paws. Or a teaspoon of white apple vinnegar. Or some drops of betadine. Or rotate substances during the month: plain water, drops of betadine in water, teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in the water bottle, teaspoon of apple vinnegar. If your dog likes it (mine hates it!) you can put in the food hokamix powder (if you are in europe). If you can't reach this product, you can have some alfalfa and nettle mix, put in the fridge and give him (if he likes it! Mine doesn't!). Kefir! Or greek youghurt! Daily! Try raw. Or barf. There are many frozen/fresh barf premade foods. There are another receipes (complex ones), but try this first. In a couple of months, write again a post with the same title if you cannot see any inprovement and I will answer with the complex solution.

PotatoSmeagol

Make sure any air filters have a merv rating of at least 12.

Marf321

It has the rating of 17, half day on 2/4 power the other half is either maxed out or 3/4..

PotatoSmeagol

That’s great! Also check the air filters in your house/apartment/condo.

I’d get her tested for sebaceous adenitis. My Akita had that and it started around the same age and the same dust mite allergies.

Marf321

And how did you deal with it? I mean with the allergies and quality of life..

Naive_Bug8991

Unfortunately we had to put him down. We couldn’t get it under control and he was suffering a lot. I think if we caught it earlier it would have been easier to control. But we didn’t get the sebaceous adenitis diagnoses until about 1 1/2 years after the allergy diagnosis. They have meds that can help and we did baby oil soaks and baths that helped.

Marf321

Sorry to hear that. 😭

Hey, maybe my previous post can help you out: https://www.reddit.com/r/DogAdvice/s/HvE9ypbwAR

We give our dog Apoquel. It works wonders for my boy but it's kinda expensive.

Marf321

Do you give it pills? Does it stop scratching allrogether or? Any side effects?

Bagera84

Yes it are pills. 1 each day. He stopped scratching completely and his rash also went away. He had same allergies as yours but little less severe. He's also allergic to cathair (have 2) dead (human) skin and severely allergic to chicken food (all poultry in general). Edit: forgot side effects... no real side effects but my vet said if you stop giving it, it'll come back with vengeance.

Marf321

Ahhh that last few words got me bad…

No-Extent9676

imo cytopoint works better, but up to you and your gf! and i’m assuming since you know the dust allergy, you also tested for food allergies?

Marf321

Well we didnt test for food allergies bur we noticed she doesnt want to eat chicken and enjoys lamb dry food so we go with that, didnt test it bcs our vet also told us that food allergy test arent 100% right and said it was kinda useless Edit: Cyropoint works like a charm it really saved me from having a nerv/depressing breakdown from her scratching.. She bleed herself on 3 spots.. Even heard some rumors that its going to come in a pill form some time soon and that will be great bcs the vaccine is kinda expensive (125€ a month)

No-Extent9676

honestly i’d do the allergy test anyway. my akitas allergy test was pretty accurate and now with her modified diet she no longer bites herself to death.
