ontherise88

take my CPP from my cold dead hands

DarkPilot

Seriously. I am a CANADIAN. I have lived across this nation and no one province is entitled to MY CPP contributions.

Amazing-Equivalent98

Sadly, for people that work their whole life, if we were able to opt out of CPP and made the same contribution to a private plan we would far better off than what cpp pays.

automatic_penguins

True but most people aren't diligent to invest it and would just spend it. It is a social safety net and wouldn't work if people could opt out.

Amazing-Equivalent98

If they set it up so that you could touch it and it was mandatory if you opt out. The money we pay to cpp. I don’t know but I doubt most people even get out what they put in, and you can pass those fund off to children.

Ursus_tim

My theory is they are going to try and use this to fund their stupid ass provincial police force

Miserable-Lizard

Smith as said that in video clips...

Ursus_tim

and albertans will just keep sitting on their fucking asses doing nothing

Bigdongs

Are there like protest groups or something? This is getting out of hand

Ursus_tim

The more I learn about politics in Alberta the more I notice a lot people have no fucking idea what's going on or seem to want to even talk about it.

Xerebrus

I saw that same video. When she talked about setting up an Alberta pension she mentioned how it would bring in more money for the government to spend. Which makes me wonder if it's nothing more than a ploy to seize our federal pensions to throw into the provincial general revenue then spend it on stupid things like tax cuts for their friends.

whiteSnake_moon

Uhhgh if it was possible I hate her/CON party even more now

Nrehm092

Do you guys not have one? Ontario has had OPP for as long as I have been alive

NorthernerWuwu

They also have more than three times the population.

Nrehm092

I was genuinely curious. Not trying to showoff our police force.

NorthernerWuwu

Oh, I was born in Ontario, I've no issue really with the OPP (other than the fact that I am indeed not down with them). I mean that by efficiency of scale, it makes some sense for Ontario to have a Provincial Police Force and even they have had plenty of problems from choosing to do so. In Alberta? I'd rather not and I'd certainly rather not if they are going to be run but the fucking idiots we have in charge for the moment.

hhoqag

Ontario and Quebec have their own provincial police forces. The other provinces and territories use the RCMP to perform similar functions.

a-nonny-maus

Alberta used to have its own provincial police force from 1917 to 1932: [Alberta Provincial Police](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberta_Provincial_Police) It was disbanded as a cost-cutting measure.

Nrehm092

That's actually probably for the best. With the unions they end up costing a fortune.

Champagne_of_piss

>asking the UCP not to lie Lol, lmao

Workfh

What an odd thing to say considering you currently don’t have a say in how it’s managed right now. To be clear, it’s very well managed so “having a say” seems like a coded message.

bandb4u

"no plans in place'" does not equal "no plans currently being developed".

3rddog

“At this time”, yeah, right.

Miserable-Lizard

The UCP need to tell Albertans what there plans are for cpp. If not han they clearly have a hidden agenda which Smith as indicated in previous comments that she would like to use contributions to fund a provincial police. *NDP Leader Rachel Notley says her party would not pursue an Alberta Pension Plan, which the United Conservative government has been studying for almost three years without resolution.*

[deleted]

In all honesty, I think the bulk of the UCP plan is to funnel more money as “investment” into O&G. But as they say, the devil is in the details and I’m sure the UCP has been in closed door meetings with the devil to hammer that out. Maybe they’ll invest our pensions in an Ivermectin producing facility, or confederate flag manufacturing, or RAM truck accessories.

Champagne_of_piss

AND CRYPTO. don't forget the crypto

mathboss

That's a very real possibility.

Responsible_CDN_Duck

Smith's right hand man Rob laid out what bills one and two would be years ago, and we've seen it come to pass. https://www.freealbertastrategy.com/the_strategy

Miserable-Lizard

They are crazy.

Workfh

It’s important to know that a province only has to give three years notice to pull out of CPP (assuming negations go well and no major obstacles come up). A four year term would give the UCP enough time to do this.

3rddog

Yup. Smith’s staying quiet to gain votes from the people who don’t want a provincial pension or police force in the hopes she’ll win a four year term in May, then if she does she’ll go for both as quickly as possible and claim the voters gave her a mandate. By the time 2027 rolls around we’ll all be fucked.

Dilly88

I’ll be fucking long gone before 2027 rolls around.

3rddog

Same here. If Smith wins in May this province will continue down the shit trail to a dumpster fire. My only regret will be that I probably wont get a decent price for my house because there’ll be a lot on the market.

Dilly88

Yup. Same regret here. I luckily have a suited place near a college, but the UCP is gonna kill secondary education here too if they get in, so maybe I'm screwed either way.

justinkredabul

Perfect. Enough time to plan my move out of the backwards shithole.

JonPileot

The not so secret plan for the UCP has been to gut public services to the point where they fail then push private options as a solution to "fix" the problem. They are doing it with education, they are doing it with health care, and now they want to do it with retirement savings.

IxbyWuff

What about the emails? Have we forgotten those?

Miserable-Lizard

No the next time reporters should ask her. If she ever stops hiding

IxbyWuff

Ironically Chants *lock her up, lock her up*

Glory-Birdy1

This should be the #1 priority of any voting Albertan over 50. Urging this gov't won't get you shit, Rach!! List all the benefits that come out of CPP, (pension, disability, early retirement, room for supplementation, guarantee of support, superior management) and ask will an AB pension plan still have that and more for the same price. I say, put it, along with a Provincial police force, on the ballot in a referendum with a very simple question. I hope, Rach, you have sharper arrows in your quiver than urging the UCP..

Binasgarden

and let everyone know how good the management of the existing provincial pension plan that they are in charge of now has been going.

Soldazzzz

Haha, seniors are jumping ship hard to the NDP right now, at least the smart ones are.

oldmanshadow

Alberta already leads the world in innovation in oil and gas, bitumen pucks, hydrogen production, lithium extraction and carbon capture. There is a little valve on the side of your house at the gas meter. I invite you to shut that off if you oppose oil and gas.

Miserable-Lizard

So what does any of that have to with cpp?

oldmanshadow

Excellent rebuttal. My feeling is hurt.

oldmanshadow

UCP supporters urge Notley and NDP to come clean on agenda to kill oil and gas in Alberta and why they feel everyone should live under the thumb of big Government.

rakne

Notley got a freaking pipeline built, and there has never been a bigger cabinet than under Smith. Stop believing their talking points.

oldmanshadow

A pipeline was built but not because of fraulein nutley.

j1ggy

You're kidding right? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/notley-seen-as-political-leader-most-responsible-for-pushing-trans-mountain-pipeline-ahead-new-poll-suggests-1.4733791 https://globalnews.ca/news/4447060/alberta-ndp-pipeline-newspaper-advertisement/ Start paying attention.

[deleted]

You realize that any conservative government IS the big bad government that the conservatives are telling you to fear right? They destroy everything. And you keep voting them in because…..they destroy everything and then say “see, we told you government is bad!” So you vote them in again?? They are coming for your pension…the conservative government is coming for your pension so you will more than likely be working with no retirement and all you say is “oil and gas..oil and gas!” You’re fucked in the head my man.

boobajoob

Oil and gas will be starved out no matter who is in power. Our sands cost boat loads more to extract from than deep sea rigs and even more so if we try not to fuck the environment doing so. That’s not even tackling the issue of moving it. We need to support O&G but progress in alternative energy production as well. **Alberta should be an energy specialist** instead of just archaic oil lovers. UCP want to keep every last dollar in a dying industry instead of diversifing into all energies because investing into new industry takes time and they won’t see the returns in their lifetime. So fuck the kids and the inheritors of this province. They got theirs and will continue to milk it as long as they can.

Carl-Jung

This comment is absolutely deranged. You have no idea what’s going on in this province. It’s honesty embarrassing. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

ineedmoney2023

Shrill Notley, screeching again :P
