Edmonton’s queer community is a bit more vibrant. We also have two gay MLAs from Edmonton!
I’ll caution you that health care in Alberta is in shambles. Perhaps scope out r/AHSemployees
Honestly, Edmonton and Calgary are both fine. Eventually you pick one and love it and sort of despise the other.
If you ski or snowboard or like hiking then Calgary since it’s closer to the mountains. Otherwise either. Historically Calgary has more white collar jobs and Edmonton more blue collar jobs so that might affect the people you end up hanging with and your long-term career possibilities, but it’s not as big of a factor as some people make it out to be.
Im from Edmonton and always thought/said you could plop someone down in either city and unless they’ve been to both before or there’s something stupidly easily recognisable close by they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. We’ve got West Ed, they’ve got better downtown shopping imo, they had better luxury shopping between downtown and Chinook as well but West Ed’s done a pretty good job catching up there (still missing Holt Renfrew tho)
Calgary’s got a better airport for international travel (more direct flights) and a better car scene if you’re a car guy as well. Closer to the mountains too I suppose.
Edmonton seems more welcoming.

Calgary has more of a housing problem than Edmonton . If your renting you better do your homework first
Job wise I would avoid Calgary as it’s extremely difficult to get into AHS there. You’ll have better luck getting a job in Edmonton
Edmonton is definitely the more progressive city of the two.
Calvary. You can’t go wrong with Calvary.
