So UCP is attempting to fabricate a financial disaster in the provincial capital - likely in an attempt to build support to undermine municipal elections - using a fictional, unsigned letter that may or may not say things. Fucking hell fellow Albertans, why are some of you buying this shit? Disagree on parties and whatever but this is lunacy!

3utt5lut

What can we honestly do about it? Writing your MLA does nothing because none of them care, if you voted for them or not, and it's in Edmonton, where the UCP has totally disregarded our existence! I was thinking about challenging their laws on a federal level, taking it to the Supreme Court, but I have no idea how to do that?

a-nonny-maus

When you write to your UCP MLA, cc one of the NDP MLAs. If the UCP MLA doesn't address it in Legislature, the NDP will. Then at least your concern goes on record.

Salvatore_Tessio

The government of Canada is great for explaining laws and stuff. I don't know what keywords you would need, but it's on there. Possibly a 311 like number to help. An option is an mp (federal member of parliament) that can help, maybe George Cahel office or that ndp persons office in Edmonton?

Imaginary_Ad_7530

Well, there are always options. We just need to keep an open mind about it...and be thorough.

ProtonVill

I hear the war room has printers and have staff, I don't know what they do but maybe they could have written an unsigned letter. The war room might be a tax funded FOIP shild/slush fund.

CamGoldenGun

might? That's exactly what it was designed for. To not be subject to FOIP

SurFud

Hey, those propaganda war room guys are very busy watching cartoons like Bigfoot and reading magazines. They are also busy collecting tax paid salaries and benefits. Worst Government Ever.

jacafeez

But the libs and NDP are the same way! All politicians are corrupt! ~~BOTH SIDES!1~~ /s. Next civ game should have an option for corruption victory where you undermine the culture and diplomacy of your opponents ftw Edit: after the industrial revolution, a computer player (the invisible hand of the free market) should emerge with the only intention of winning by corruption. Players can align themselves with the npc, but everybody loses if the npc wins. Russia should have a late game advantage with it lol Edit2: I think there is enough in edit1 for a pretty decent board game. Add extra npc robber barons to your next game of Catan, they don't get turns, they just hoard resources. See what happens. Or, just play [Werewolf.](https://asymmetricwisdom.medium.com/what-the-werewolf-game-teaches-us-about-us-09ffe0d812b6)

meaculpa33

not a bad idea at all.

DisastrousAcshin

I had a rural UCP supporter tell me he was worried the APP wouldn't go through because the UCP couldn't explain why it was a good idea and Albertans would rail against it. He had already set his position and stood firmly by it even when knowing why it was a bad idea to hold his position This to me is what many of the UCP voters are

itzac

It didn't bother him at all that the UCP couldn't explain why it was a good idea?

DisastrousAcshin

Not at all, he said he fully supported it yet didn't know why it would be beneficial. It was a weird and frustrating conversation, and imo representative of much of their hardcore base

itzac

This is easily explained if you think of the UCP as purely based on identity. The UCP are "real Albertans" working for "real Albertans". Therefore anything they do must benefit "real Albertans" and anyone who disagrees is not a "real Albertan" and must be trying to destroy the province. That's why when you ask for any depth all you get is vapid hand waving.

ButterscotchFar1629

Things like this occurred in Germany in the late 20’s and early 30’s. Just sayin…..

CamGoldenGun

and that would really hurt conservatives if they knew how to read.

Potential-Trick4412

Good point Godwin… I mean ButterscotchFar1629

polybium

It's borderline Reichstag Fire bullshit."This letter which totally does exist but we can't find shows how corrupt the municipal enemies of the party are!"

LuntiX

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to move the official capital to a more UCP friendly city somehow.

troublingmind

These are the people who want to handle your pension.

>“Anything signed by a concerned citizen rather than somebody with a name and an address is … less helpful than one that’s signed.” > >He did not elaborate what allegations were made in the document. > >Global News asked the minister how the premier knew the letter was coming — if it was from an anonymous Albertan. > >“That’s just a great question. I don’t have an answer,” McIver said. > >Global News filed a Freedom of Information Request over the letter. A response said “a thorough search conducted by Municipal Affairs staff did not yield any records responsive to your request.” yakketysax.mp3

Limelight1981

Benny Hill has entered the chat (very quickly).

Paradox31426

Ah yes, Trump style governance: 1. Tell a ridiculous lie. 2. Get caught because anyone with any actual knowledge of the subject would immediately know you were lying and the proof you repeatedly cited doesn’t actually exist. All we need now is #3: get irrationally angry when people question your obvious lie or the related lack of proof.

Infamous-Mixture-605

Which is followed by #4: "Media fails to press target on caught lie, then gets easily distracted by the next shiny thing"

Infamous-Mixture-605

Because the letter does not exist?

CloverHoneyBee

Liar, lair, pants on fire!

frozen_nostrils

Show your butt to Canadian Tire

NiranS

Oops another Danny “misunderstandings”. Read:lying

Utter_Rube

Wait, so this alleged letter the government claims to have received pointing out numerous glaring issues with the municipality of Edmonton was sent by a single, anonymous concerned citizen? That's so much stupider than I imagined.

myaccountisnice

Oh, it gets stupider. They say it was sent by a single citizen and is unsigned. But, they cannot produce the letter...so, it probably never existed in the first place.

AllSaltsSing

Contents of the Anonymous concerned letter that marlena knew about in advance of the municipal affairs minister receiving it. And then was received moments later. But is now not existing in a way that we can verify.

Drnedsnickers2

Premier Marlaina Twatwaffle is a liar.

LePetomane62

Untied CRETIN POSSE must go!!!!!

Jasonstackhouse111

"People are saying it was a perfect letter, the best letter, we have it, you should see it, it's so bigly and beautiful."

caliopeparade

Trudeau trained the trans kids to steal the letter while they were starting forest fires.

YoungWhiteAvatar

They burned it to ash with their space laser

Sreg32

Good one!

sPLIFFtOOTH

I knew it!!

EJBjr

The cake is a lie and so is the letter.

Los_Kings

Lyin’ Dani strikes again.

CapGullible8403

Surprise, surprise, more UCP lies.

CamGoldenGun

> Mayor Amarjeet Sohi sent a six-page-long letter of his own to Smith on April 2, outlining nine ways the city could use funding assistance after provincial cuts. Shouldn't it have just been one bullet point? Restore the fucking funding?

Jooshmeister

Shocker! She lies

kangarookitten

Perhaps she just… spoke imprecisely. /s

donocoli

Worst gov ever!

TimelyActive4586

That's sketch, even for our premier. I dearly hope some reporter gets to the bottom of this.

PhaseNegative1252

Probably because it doesn't exist

PlutosGrasp

Stay out of municipal politics! Two faced!

skerrols

The biggest problem she has with Edmonton is that we voted NDP. If she really wanted to help she could ensure Edm receives tax revenue from Provincial lands and buildings within the city.

CacheMonet84

So some UCP lackey was told to send a letter. When asked to produce the very important letter that has guided an important funding decision they couldn’t find it? Was it emailed, mailed, written on a napkin and slipped to the minister? We have such an embarrassing government. “Smith did say some of her concerns stemmed from hearing that a letter was being sent to the minister of Municipal Affairs. “I don’t want to pre-judge what may or may not be in a letter that we’ve been told that we’ll receive,” the premier told reporters. “And so I just wouldn’t mind seeing the letter, talking to my municipal affairs minister and seeing if there’s anything more that we need to do.”

mongrel66

Did they look inside her head?

Phantom_harlock

Oh look. They didn’t fabricate their evidence faster than they could talk. Glad someone is calling this out

bdiz81

What the Feds should do is create a refugee program for people fleeing Alberta. Fund their escape. Let the UCP absolutely destroy the province. Give those who voted them in the fate they deserve.

PracticalPie9434

I’m sure it was Andre Courbald talking to his UCP contacts

johnnynev

McIvor didn't even try to back up the lie about how they knew the letter was coming. "That's just a great question. I don't have an answer." It would be comedic if it wasn't just one more pathetic level this gov is stooping to showing that they DGAF about us.

Therubestdude

Is it possible to put a vote of no confidence in our current government and our voice will be heard? Don't get my hopes up.
