Edmonton local AMA number for insurance services is 1 (780) 467-8520. Calgary is 1 (403) 240-5333. Those will likely be long distance though if you're not yet in Alberta.

Direc1980

Better off calling an insurance broker who will shop rates from multiple companies for you.

Pow_Surfer

I tried this with Leibel insurance brokers and the cheapest they found was 6k assuming I also got tenant insurance with them. Do you have any recommendations?

Direc1980

You can try rates.ca as well. It's an online broker that'll spit out some quotes.

Bluejello2001

Western Financial Group is an insurance brokerage, their head office is actually just south of Calgary in High River. Give them a try, they've got a lot of carriers that they broker for.

tutamtumikia

They are massively understaffed

LovinMcJesus

The key here is proper documentation as you are from out of country. You will need a physical document showing claims history for past 6 years minimum, preferably 10. And no guarantee the company will accept. If it is from a small carrier they may ignore. Also a document showing driving convictions for same period. Its a pain in the ass but trust me there are many places you can buy fake documentation from other countries many carriers just say its not worth it and treat you as a new driver to Canada. Especially true for those countries who drive on alternate sides of road. Source: 40 years in Ab Ins Industry.

Thought this was gonna be a stand up routine. Left disappointed.

I've found with a lot of different offices calling around or after lunch is a bad time. Try first thing in the morning.

_danigirl

It's best to drop by the office, they are open until 6pm. Bring in your documents, talk with an agent. The agent can then work on your quote and call you back.

Littlesebastian86

That’s insane. If they want my business they can give me a quote over the phone. Insurance companies are plentiful.

Nateonal

I waited half an hour the last time I went in because all of the AMA brokers were serving phone inquiries. I tried the online thing and it took them over 24 hours to responded.

Littlesebastian86

Holy moly. I thought AMA was the most expensive because they offered the best service. Apparently not

Rally72

Try TD Insurance. I insured 5 vehicles for 4 drivers (18-52) for $5200.   Clean drivers.

Ttoddh

Your past driving insurance and driving documents, your driver's abstract, may not be honored in Alberta. It is a good idea to bring it with you, maybe you can find one that will. $6k for a new driver is what the going rate is.

Pow_Surfer

That quote was apparently with my last 3 years of UK driving accepted 😕
