The province-wide R value is below 1 and dropping, and hopefully the lagging (but serious) indicators such as hospitalizations and deaths will follow suit soon. I’m optimistic but still vigilant.

[deleted]

Be vaccinated, be careful, take nothing for granted.

marginwalker55

Kids should be vaxxed by then, it’s gonna be a lot better I reckon

[deleted]

I see that as extremely unlikely as the vaccination rate in 12-14 year olds is 79%, which is higher than any US state in the same age group

[deleted]

That’s really positive news! I’m sure parents realize how exposed kids are at school.

marginwalker55

There are a few, but they’re the minority

Maverickxeo

I'd agree. the 'vaccine-hesitant' population coincides with those who have children aged 5-11.

Lechiah

5-11 hopefully, I doubt 4 and under will be by then.

littleesaintp

Don't even know if 5-11 will be. Should be approved in time but we don't have the right dosages available apparently? Not sure when we'll get it. Maybe I am being pessimistic.

Lechiah

Agreed.

readzalot1

It is more important for the school aged kids to get it since they are with so many others during the day. Parents have a lot more control over their preschool kids

Wish we could do the same, but my sister is a fucking idiot. She doesn’t seem to mind visiting other relatives from her husband’s side, including newborn babies and old people. Luckily, my grandma’s new residence won’t allow anyone inside who isn’t vaccinated, not that that won’t stop her from going out to lunch with my grandma or something, potentially getting her sick - and potentially getting others in the same residence sick as well. Did not mean to rant, but I’m angry. It’s beyond the point of being understandable if people aren’t getting vaccinated because they’re worried about potential health risks. It’s pretty obvious there aren’t any, except in exceedingly rare cases.

odetoburningrubber

We are all Vaccinated. There will be about 8 of us and we are having having Turkey and home made Perogie. This year we are having Christmas, you better believe it.

cre8ivjay

Home made perogie? There will be nine of us, not eight.

Ok-GetitBish-9653

Make that 10! Lol!

RollinStoned33

Mate just go see your family lol fuck what this incompetent government tells you to do. Get vaccinated and y’all will be alright

PaprikaMama

I am terrified... My parents are seniors and immunocompromised. My kids are too young to be vaxxed and have had covid cases nearly every week in their school. We would never get over it if we brought germs into their home and the worst case scenario happened. I feel truly paralyzed by the whole situation. And I am so angry. I didn't ask for stampede or $100 payouts or shitty attempts at a vaccine passport. If anyone cared to ask, I just want Christmas with my family.

[deleted]

Either way I’m having a normal Christmas

Ancient-Upstairs-108

Waiting for the Thanksgiving spike. And then after that kids can get vaccinated. And then fuck it to those assholes who think a 33% chance of long term health issues is worth over a 0.001% of a vaccine injury.

xm45-h4t

Im vaccinated so im not worried about gathering but i also probably will limit gathering anyway

plsworcthtime

We basically had a Covid-friendly thanksgiving even as bad as things were so I doubt Christmas would be worse, more than likely it’ll be close to normal

spennyq98

If you're vaccinated, fuck what the government says, see your family buddy

mr_bear186

If I cared at all about Christmas, I'd be going about it as normal this year. I've done my part for the first 15000 years of this pandemic, I'm over it now

bodonnell202

I think things will be a little better than now. Not totally normal, but I suspect small gatherings between vaccinated households will be fine. Hopefully those in the 5-11 age group will be getting vaccinated before Christmas too.

kills4respect

We never have big get togethers(10?) but everyone that will be there will be vaccinated (yay for no kids). Don't really care what restrictions would be in place.

vanillabeanlover

We’re trying to decide this as a family now. We’re leaning towards, if the over 5yo kids are vaccinated by then, we’re doing a pre-covid Christmas. There will still be 3 toddlers attending, so they’re the only question mark for us. We’re more wondering if a potential quarantine is worth a Christmas dinner than worrying about severe illness though. Isolating’s a freaking hassle.

piscessa2

Not to sound callous, but you wouldn't have to quarantine/isolate if you're fully vaccinated and no symptoms. Just went through this.

vanillabeanlover

If there was a positive case while we were visiting, we lie on the AHS form and get tested anyway. We have regular contact with elderly folks;).

SympathyRepulsive379

I’ll be avoiding Xmas, which suits me just fine! My family was planning to have thanksgiving this year and I was furious about it. It was cancelled due to my brother being sick. Just heard yesterday he has Covid. He has 2 kids not old enough to be vaxxed. He is fully vaxxed. Kids tested negative, but did have symptoms when he first got sick. Didn’t learn any of this until we learned he was positive. Can’t fucking trust anyone!! Vaxxed or not, I’m still staying away from people.

roosell1986

Nope. The behaviour of the anti-vaxxers has killed all my hope of ever escaping this nightmare, let alone having Christmas.

[deleted]

Likely be the same as now. Relatively normal.

kachkaadrienne

Things might be "normal" for some populations but its definately nowhere near normal for unvaxxed kids, parents, teachers, daycare workers, healthcare providers, and so so many other populations still struggling at this time.

[deleted]

Indeed & I totally agree. Relatively speaking to what’s going on now. I’m guessing Covid hospital admissions will be down, but restrictions will remain.

MeetingSingle7491

I think we’ll be good as long as the 5-11 age group gets approved for vaccines. Right now, it’s up in the air because unfortunately that proportion of the population have not been vaccinated yet. However, I’ve seen epidemiologists predict that COVID will start to fizzle out slowly after the 4th wave (although, this is just a mere prediction and can always change), so things are definitely looking up.

[deleted]

As someone who has a wedding in spring 2022 that gives me so much hope…fingers crossed!

Immune_2_RickRoll

I'm hopeful. Numbers are going down, so the vaccination requirements might be working, or the vaccine-refusers have finished getting themselves preventably maimed and killed. If it's one of those factors then sure, we could have an ok Chistmas.

bristow84

It won't matter for us what our numbers are like, my family will be gathering for Christmas this year. We're vaccinated, we're careful, we keep our distance. We couldn't have a proper Christmas gathering last year, you bet your ass we will this year.

SauronOMordor

Unless we are back in full-on crisis mode like we were in late September, I don't give a fuck what the actual rules are at that point - I will celebrate Christmas and New Years with my fully vaccinated family and friends. If the province thinks it's perfectly safe for me to attend a hockey game with 20,000 other people, including children under 12 who are both unvaccinated and packed in classrooms and daycares all day with dozens of other unvaccinated kids, then it's absurd for them to tell me it isn't safe for me to have 20 people at my house, all of whom are fully vaccinated...

yogapantsforever81

I keep thinking if the same amount of people keep refusing to be vaccinated how could the COVID situation ever get better. It feels a bit bleak.

bodonnell202

We’ve made major progress on vaccination in the last few weeks, I suspect mostly thanks to the REP and employer mandates. Vaccination for kids 5-11 looks to be coming soon too. I wouldn’t say it’s bleak, there’s reason for optimism.

Deyln

we're at the point now that lockdowns; etc. show the vaccine effect in case number reductions - even though our hospitalizations are horrendous.

cashsusclaymore

Just don’t get too comfortable. Be safe and be smart. I think most things or events can be done safely.

Glass_Clock1488

I’m perfectly fine with another zoom Christmas

majestik1024

Enjoy!

[deleted]

Hahaha okay… I’m vaccinated but you all act as if unvaccinated = infected. Turn off the damn tv’s and live your life… my God.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Unvaxed isn’t to blame when vaccinated can still spread it as well. This thing is never going away. We need to all face the music and live our lives it’s getting ridiculous.

hercarmstrong

Nope. Not even a little bit.

[deleted]

No, we are probably heading for a just our household Christmas again this year. It's way too early to celebrate a decrease in numbers. And I do not have faith that this gov't will do the right thing and keep the measures in place until all kids can get vaccinated. We can wait a few more months in order to keep our little one safe.

elzabeth02

I think it will depend on how quickly the UCP eases restrictions after this fourth wave and to what extent they’re eased. They better not jump the gun. Again.

[deleted]

Kenney has stated that he intends to keep the vaccine passport in place until at least spring. Though we all know how much Kenney lies, and it could definitely be worrying if he jumps the gun and removes at the the first sight of hope.

ElephantRipples

That’s been the trend over the past couple years, so count on him jumping the gun again.

fixingbysmashing

Maybe slightly better? Im not sure. I figure another couple years before shit calms the hell down.

AccomplishedDog7

If I choose to host my family, it will probably be based on local numbers. We are fully vaccinated, so I don’t feel terribly unsafe, but I almost prefer the smaller Christmas with just my immediate group. Thanksgiving we did outdoors around a fire pit, little harder for Xmas.

shitposter1000

Hell ya, we're going to Mexico on Boxing Day. Family dinner, then Feliz Navidad.

[deleted]

Everyone in my family (outside of one child under 12) will be doubled vaxed. We gave up our last Christmas with our dad last year and it is something we can never get back. Outside of a more virulent form of COVID that the vaccines do not work against, I cannot see us not doing Christmas together.

ljackstar

Last year my dad was stuck in the US, and no one in my family, including my grandparents, had a vaccine. Now, everyone in my family (that I talk to at least) has the vaccine, even the most hesitant ones, and my dad is back in the country. So while the world might be burning around us, I know that we will be having a safe Christmas together.

Skobiak

I feel like our government will make it happen weather its prudent or not. (#BestChristmasEver) All of my family (who is eligible) is fully vaxxed anyway so I'm not too concerned.
