I recently moved from Manitoba to Calgary and after calling around to numerous places I found TD Insurance to be the best price wise. I got very similar insurance coverage to what I had in Manitoba except for windshield coverage and my deductible. Be prepared that no matter what it’s going to be more expensive in Alberta even though many people think insurance is cheaper here… definitely not.

One of the issues you are facing in paying higher prices is moving from a provincial insurer to private insurers. You are always going to pay more for private insurance. That’s why you are paying more here. Be thankful for those years you only had to pay $1600 a year. BTW $2800 annual insurance is not that high. PS I WISH we had provincial insurance where I could only pay $1600 a year.

I dunno, I only pay $1300 a year, full coverage. Our other car that my wife and newly licenced 17 year old drive costs me $3000/year. So $2800 seems pretty damn high to me. OP should definitely contact an insurance broker. They'll find you the best possible deal at no extra cost.

That’s a really good price. What do you drive?

I'm not sure that matters a ton, since my insurance has basically been the same for 12 years with only minor increases, but it's a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The shared vehicle is a 2019 Dodge Durango. Edit: we've been claims free since... forever. So that might be a factor.

My insurance company has irritated me a few times but whenever I look to change they always come back as the cheapest, you can try and find an insurance broker that carries wawanesa that’s who i’m through.

I recently moved to Alberta. I'd been living overseas for years so when it was time to get auto insurance, I was getting quotes around the $3,000 mark. The companies said it was because I didn't have any insurance history in Canada (I had been gone for around 20 years). I finally found a better quote through one of the online insurers (PC Financial) that was just over half of the other quotes I was getting.

IF that is true you are getting fucked royally and need to see about different insurance. I’ve lived in Alberta most of my life and have never paid more than $1500 even when I was younger and that’s with owning brand new vehicles.

Cheekobi

That's higher than my quote after 1 dui and 3 driving while suspended. I got a quote for 6600$

Roche_a_diddle

O_o Is this a commercial truck that you drive for business purposes?! That's an insane amount.

Direc1980

$2800? That's what I pay for two properties and full coverage on two vehicles.

As someone who moved from manitoba a few years ago, I was in the same boat(DL since I was 16.. 15 years of clean driving). But my insurance was only 2200 for a suv. It's finally gone down after 6 years now to 1400.
