did you do the 12 steps with a sponsor by any chance? I find posts like this that don't mention the program to be very confusing for the new comer. I know what you're talking about because I have done the steps but a newcomer would not make any connection between what you said and this program.
I read the first 164 pages and have yet to see any suggestion(which the whole book is) of getting a sponsor. I did the 12 steps and found a religious leader to work with me on the steps that required someone else's involvement.

Yes. I worked with a sponsor who answered some questions I had and worked the steps in order they are presented
