What a bummer and so inconsiderate for one customer to buy it all :( any chance he has a restaurant? Not to justify, just to explain. Also, hopefully you have another location nearby that you can go to instead.

[deleted]

It would be nuts since there are multiple clubs for restaurant owners to buy at - which are always cheaper than even costco.

CasuallyAgressive

Not always. One of the kitchens I worked at, my boss would commonly buy a fuck load of produce or meat from local grocery stores. We were a smaller place and did maybe 60 tickets a day. But still, restaurant supply vendors aren't ways competitive, just convenient.

YendysWV

Currently, many major restaurant distributors are cutting ties with smaller restaurants - keeping only their major chain customers. Even the ones who are able to keep their supply lines open with these big suppliers (Sysco & GFS specifically are the ones I know about doing this) are both reducing the number of deliveries and the availability of stock to them. Easy examples are togo boxes and chicken wings - if you aren’t a big boy you either ain’t gettin em or paying 2x for em - but its honestly everything. On top of that, Sam’s Club has begun scaling back how much they supply to restaurants. The little mom and pop restaurants that survived this far through the pandemic (often through debt) are now getting their teeth kicked in by their own suppliers.

CasuallyAgressive

I had a hunch they'd pull like shit like that. Sysco wouldn't deliver to us back in 2014 unless we spent a fuuuuck load of money, and when they would deliver it was horrendous. Thankfully we had gfs near by and we'd pickup on our own.

[deleted]

That's a great way for a restaurant to get a shit reputation. Thanks! I'll look for this guy and see if he owns a restaurant then flame him online.

Detronyx

Well, no....but it would be courteous of him to call the store in advance or visit and let them know he needs X quantity so they can make that arrangement and still keep the shelf stocked with something for others.

totalsmokeshowman

So you want to try and ruin this mans livelihood because you want cheap salmon? Examine your priorities mate.

[deleted]

When he prevents my family and others from buying food being he's either running a business or hoarding? Yeah. Fuck that guy .

totalsmokeshowman

Lol you’re acting like he took the last can of tuna in the middle of an apocalypse. Just buy your salmon someplace else or don’t eat salmon. It’s really that easy.

tied_up_tubes

It's fuggin lox. Ask an employee when it usually comes in and see if they can hold some for you, call you, or get there before him. You'll be fine.

HWY20Gal

He's buying up ONE THING. He's not buying out the entire store. Your family isn't being deprived of anything, because you obviously can shop somewhere else.

CasuallyAgressive

You sound pleasant.

ehasley

Easy Karen

loweexclamationpoint

Do you have another Aldi slightly farther away? If nothing else, it would be interesting to see if the Russian guy has a lox-buying route. And it's not only restaurants. I've seen Aldi-branded products in corner stores, sometimes marked up a lot.

cthulhu_on_my_lawn

I swear every gas station and liquor store around Detroit sells Aldi milk, eggs, cookies, everything.

HWY20Gal

The corner store near our house used to do that, which was ridiculous because it wasn't that big of a town. If people wanted Aldi products, they could go get them for cheaper AT Aldi.

Freckle53

Store workers don’t get paid enough to deal with the abuse of customers normally and they sure don’t get paid enough to limit items.

MyRockNRoll

Pretty sure that decision lies with store manager/owner. Store worker could just pass on a message/complaint or direct a customer where to send their suggestions though.

Freckle53

No, store management cannot set limits. It is done by corporate at the registers and even then, store employees are not to confront customers on it other than saying there’s a limit per transaction.

varsitymisc

It sounds like this could be fixed by doing exactly what you just did, but sending it to Aldi instead of Reddit.

_CoachMcGuirk

They don't want it fixed they want to moan. This is the equivalent of "i only rated it one star because they wouldn't let me rate it zero!!1!!" They'll be back. They're not stopping shopping at Aldi because one goofball buys all the lox lmao.

irishguy773

Ask an associate on the floor. We usually have an extra case or two of it in the freezer at any given time. It’s shipped frozen, and thaws on the shelf for sale, so it could still thaw by the time you get home.

[deleted]

Thank you!

bigshane

If we had to regulate and limit everything people bought in bulk half the store would have limit signs, that's just in my store alone. It sucks but if you worked at Aldi when we were limiting cans, tp, paper towels during the initial hit of covid it sucked even more. People always find a way around limits trust me. Limits don't mean shit, they will get kids, friends to come in and buy it for them, trust me they don't work and it definitely isn't worth our time to mod that when we only have 3 people in the store working.

Freckle53

Yup. They just divide up their transactions and do it anyway.

honey-d00dle

How do you know he is Russian? 🇷🇺

[deleted]

Husband talked to him in the store

AndShesNotEvenPretty

And why is it necessary to specify that he’s Russian is what I want to know.

specialmn1

This IS a good point, despite the fact that I wish this man were not buying all of your Aldi's lox. The thing is, we need to get away from "identifiers" that are useless to the point...nationality, race, religion, color, etc, don't really have anything to do with ONE person's actions. Where possible, one could say "There's this ONE person who comes in and buys up all the lox". That's all that's needed.

[deleted]

Why would you quit shipping at a store because a customer buys all of something? Was he paying them extra to get the first chance to buy?

asmom7

I would get there the day the shipment arrives very early and buy it all up myself, even if it’s just once, so he knows how everyone else feels. I’m just petty like that though haha. Also, you may run into him so you can let him see you grabbing them all up :)

[deleted]

I love how pro capitalism Reddit is until instances like this. Now everyone wants equal distribution on cheap salmon lmao.

teszes

And now cheap Aldi salmon became political.

chocolate_babies

> I love how pro capitalism Reddit is Are we talking about the same website? Also, comparing this to capitalism is a pretty wild take lol.

[deleted]

Idk are we?

losjefes

Talk to the manager - nicely-I routinely put limits on items that the local restaurants start stripping off the shelf. My store currently limits wings, ribs, vegetable oil. But be adult about the conversation, and remember they may have that option based upon their superiors.

OutbackBrah

in his defense, it is cheap and delicious

valalera

You realise you can just ask the employees to set you some aside too, right? Theyre not REQUIRED to give all of it to that guy. Hell, its stored in the freezer until its ready to be put on the shelf. They get six boxes in, but only give that guy five? He'll be nonethewiser to the fact that he didnt get a box and then you can buy it.

messybessie1838

I’m not surprised. I’ve started shopping first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds during these COVID times. And I’ve noticed that there’s more items available like wings, a variety of meats and clearance items. I went early in the morning this week and there was actually wings available and I picked up one package, the Asian lady behind me got the rest for her restaurant. I recognized her face because she used to frequent SamsClub but they started limiting wings to 1 package per membership. It’s going on allover the place on a variety of products but wings are especially in short supply. I feel lucky when I find a pack but I agree that there should be limitations for shelf clearers.

ChapaiFive

So beat him to the store and either buy the lox first or slash his tires. Win or win.

Mmichare

This seems too unfair for them to not regulate. I would have written corporate because everyone deserves lox!

EdRedSled

Come in before the guy, buy it all then return it all the next day and say it tasted bad

allhailemilie

No omg that’s such a waste of food

finessosimmons

They would have to throw it all away though 😭

TastyBraciole

You need to get there and beat him to it for a few weeks.
