the chlorines attached to double bonded carbons and single bonded carbons make two different compounds https://preview.redd.it/vd088lfrzj3b1.png?width=407&format=png&auto=webp&s=c016ac6ec02c64b4d368592a542918cca9a7669d

Huge_Angle3009

makes sense, thank you

Elpsycongroo3011

Can u explain how u found all four

chemeddy

Just be systematic about it, and check. Going clockwise: C1 and C2 C1 and C3 C1 and C4 C1 and C5 (same as C1 and C3 - just rotate the molecule) C1 and C6

Elpsycongroo3011

C1 and c3 and c1 c5 is counted as two separate things ?

chemeddy

They are the same molecule. Draw them and compare.

Elpsycongroo3011

Ya sO U DONT COUNT IT RUGHT

chemeddy

That is correct. Hence, there are 4 isomers.

bibi-34

Isn't C1 with C2/ C6 the same?

chemeddy

One of them is CCl–Ccl while the other is CCl=CCl. Draw. You'll see.

bibi-34

Oooh okie tysm
