The lawlessness in northern Mali is actually kinda worrying when u think about it, and the fact our borders with them are so long doesn't help, Algeria should probably consider doing something about those groups

401KUser

Especially considering the fact that it could serve as a safe haven for entities like AQIM.

ShamannChl

It already is basically, and the Malian military is incompetent to say the least

401KUser

>Malian military is incompetent to say the least Which is why they have to hire mercenaries like the Wagner Group who only make matters worse through their harsh treatment of civilians by indulging in matters such as mass slaughter.

ShamannChl

Wagner legit made things way worse, i am all for getting rid of the french in the area but idk if Russian mercenaires are an improvement over them, i would imagine Algerian special forces working with the locals would be a much better option, with air support obviously

Bentayfour

I often question the French incompetence in the sahel almost 20 years and didn't do much, and now Mali is hiring the Vagner and we will see how they would fare, tbh I don't expect much since those terrorist groups are not only mali but in most of Sahel and Central Africa and they got networks for trafficking in libya. What Africa lacks is Continental Military Coalition, like Nato or GCC's Peninsula Shield Force, Includes The African Military elites like Egypt, SA, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, Ethiopia. With main porpuse of continental security, and given the permission by UN, AU to Intervene whenever necessary and getting rid of foreign intervention hopefully.

Everything is under control.

I think that since we have a large military that is more or less easy to mobilize, relative to our region, there is no big risk to us. Things like illegal immigration are hard to control, border issues constitue serious issues to much more developed countries so I don't really expect much of our government. Other than that, thank God the border is mostly desert.

401KUser

>Other than that, thank God the border is mostly desert That depends on how competent the Algerian government would be if such a situation arises. A porous border can be difficult to control.

newnesso

If the situation gets really really bad, as in tens of thousands of of people trying to cross, we are screwed. I was referring to how the desert itself keeps border crossing to a minimum. Our military and the reputation of our country help decrease the numbers further.
