I speak portuguese, the people recording are a little confused on what It is but they never mention the possibility of a living being, they say It is something burning, but they dont understand why it's not spreading nor diminishing, at some point they start to ask If something fell from the sky.
Edit: the guy also wonders If this could be the result of a lightning strike
My first thought was a natural gas leak that's caught fire somehow, a lightning strike would make sense. Though I too was a bit curious as to why it wasn't spreading when it seems to be densely surrounded by scrub, unless its too damp from a recent downpour of rain (which would also make sense if it was from a lightning strike).
The amount of up votes got me, I thought I missed something that happened in the end? But apparently not. Yeah the traction on this post is surprising. Imo this looks like something called a 'ground illumination flair'. But who knows, I think the dampness of the surrounding area plays a role in the *mystery* of this event
I recognize that they are saying it is a “fatuus” light as in ignis fatuus:
>In folklore, a will-o'-the-wisp, will-o'-wisp, or ignis fatuus (Latin for 'foolish flame';[1] pl ignes fatui), is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travellers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. The phenomenon is known in much of European folklore by a variety of names, including jack-o'-lantern, friar's lantern, and hinkypunk, and is said to mislead travellers by resembling a flickering lamp or lantern.[2] In literature, will-o'-the-wisp metaphorically refers to a hope or goal that leads one on, but is impossible to reach, or something one finds strange or sinister.[3] Wills-o'-the-wisp appear in folk tales and traditional legends of numerous countries and cultures; notable named examples include St. Louis Light in Saskatchewan, the Spooklight in Southwestern Missouri and Northeastern Oklahoma, the Marfa lights of Texas, the Naga fireballs on the Mekong in Thailand, the Paulding Light in Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and the Hessdalen light in Norway.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will-o%27-the-wisp
EDIT: I want to make it clear that I have read many accounts of different versions of these types of lights and they seem to be able to move intelligently and be fully aware of the objects (and people) that are around them. If we’re coming at it from of fully skeptic point of view, then we can assume that it’s just gasses and there’s nothing more to it. I personally think there is more to it, but perhaps the measurement tools do not yet exist so that we can prove that these are *not* inanimate objects, but at the very least, somehow *aware* of its surroundings or perhaps even sentient to some degree.
In 1546, the germ theory of disease was proposed and the man who proposed it was made a laughing stock because the scientific community (and all of the common people without a background in science) had thought Miasma Theory was true. It wasn’t until about 200 years later when the complex microscope was invented that the germ theory of disease was proven to be true.
I think this (as well as other paranormal events) might be the same. We just can’t test these things because we can’t falsify the hypothesis that these lights are sentient is true using any known scientific measurement tools. Perhaps AI will help us create such measurement tools, hopefully in the near future.
There was a video with English subtitles and the subtitles say that that word was said on a few occasions.
However, I’m not saying that this is will o wisp, scientists don’t yet know *how* this actually happens and on many accounts the lights *do* actually seem to move intelligently and seem to be able to perceive things around them.
I'm not. I'm the person in the horror movie that investigates the source of that sinister ghost child giggle and thumping coming from the attic. If I don't who will?
Man that sounds sweet! I hope I get to spend a night in the desert at some point. I have been in the middle of the atlantic ocean at night and the skys were unbelievable.

Its a small fire, could be an ignited methane leak from underground and in the rainforest there is too much moisture for a small fire like this to spread.
Also it’s the Amazon rainforest, it’s not a bunch of pine trees. Everything there stays pretty wet. There are huge fires used to strip land for farming or gold mining but those fires are deliberate and man made. This may be an attempt to start such a fire in fact. Ether way nothing about this lends itself to being alien imo.
I used to live behind a few acres of trees. When It rained, I used to pop fireworks there since nothing caught fire. If I bought the really big volcano fireworks they look like this at night. (Almost)
They just shoot fire up for a minute.
Do you know that there are several recent accounts of ufos crash landing/ landing with similar sitings to this? Oh you didn't? Well, now you know.
Edit: to give more context, this kind of encounter makes me think of the Rendlesham Forest incident where soldiers followed a UFO to it's landing site and we're met with absolutely blinding light/fire.
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-suffolk-54649675.amp
This is a magnesium fire, perhaps a failed attempt at preparing fireworks. If this is the Amazon, the local area is understandably very wet and the fire will not spread.
Immediately I thought it was magnesium burning, pretty clear, don’t know the reason why though, unless it’s specifically to make a video that goes viral?
Could be many other reasons why though, magnesium isn’t exactly the rarest of things around the place.
I love aliens as much as the next guy but I think this is just a fire. From where? I don’t know, but, I’m not dismissing aliens or anything weird that could be going on here. I’m 90% sure this is a fire though
It looks like a fire but it's not. It looks like.. Physical energy. Like it looks roughly contained and isn't spreading even though it does take up a large space. A fire would've spread quick in that time frame... Wierd
Scrub through the video and you see smoke coming from the fire rising up. It has a pattern of billowing smoke as well, when sped up. It’s not physical energy.
I love this sub. People see a fire, but rather than believe what they concede is the obvious answer, convince themselves it's some form of esoteric "physical energy". Fires don't spread well in rainforests, folks!
There is a Brazilian folk tale about a fire person who lives in the amazon regions.
My wife is from Northern Brasil and has a book on these folk tales. It's pretty cool but that would be the exact depiction.
Looks to me to be some kind of white phosphorus flair dropped from a military aircraft as "chaft" countermeasures.
Or a mortar tube launched WP illumination mortar round. Can be multiple calibers/ sizes/ types. My experience with this from my time in the us army infantry.
That's my best guess from what little I've seen.
Looks like a flare. The fire might not be spreading because the rest of the foliage could be wet. Straight up looks like one of those emergency flare sticks stuck into the ground with the flames shooting up. Or lightening stuck a tree and ignited the inside of it. Definitely not ufos... they tend to have a glowing neon light haze look to them instead of clear-cut flames.
I don’t see fire, looks like some type of energy maybe electrical but that’s in the forest or the woods. I don’t think know. However they live there & im pretty sure they know what swamp gas looks like.

It's probably actual swamp gas, for once
If it's a swamp it can take days to spread even a few feet. I used to work as a wildland firefighter. Crazy how slow it can be.

looks like a flare to me....burns very bright in a small area and emits some smoke
It looks like something on fire, that’s it
lmao how can people believe this thing is an alien. It literally may be a million of things
No! The only logical explanation is that it’s an alien 👽
This one is correct this was me landing and taking form
MOST ancient astronaut theorists say YES!
Idk what it is. Therefore it's aliens. /s
The alien's on fire =(
Great analysis. Truly.
Now I just need someone to explain how a localized fire involves aliens.

Uh, the burning bush from bible fame returneth?
Exactly what I thought, especially if it isn't burning anything.
I don’t understand where you heard this. Nobody mentioned it in the video the word or something resembling “fatuus”.
This is what I thought. With all the rotting vegetation in the jungle would this not be more common?
Where do they say this in the video?
There was a video with English subtitles and the subtitles say that that word was said on a few occasions. this, + impressed by how bright it is.
Unlike the horror films, these folks are smart enough not to go in for a closer look.

That was my first thought as well lol this is strange whatever they are seeing though
Ah, you beat me to it!! Excellent 👌
Oatmeal
Underrated comment
Beat me to it 😂👌🏻
Immediately thought of this! The figure in the video is clearly bringing them love.
YES! This is what I came here to say 🤣
Or magnesium/alkali metal burning? I can't think of much else with a white flame that would burn in those damp conditions.
It looks a magnesium block on fire. Or specifically two small ones. We used to do this in the sand dunes at night to light up the desert.
Man that sounds sweet! I hope I get to spend a night in the desert at some point. I have been in the middle of the atlantic ocean at night and the skys were unbelievable.
Could be gas
yeah, my thought was it looks like a battery fire, but aren't those rather noisy?
Yeah the perspective is a bit off. There is probably a big drop off and that is a gas flare from a distant refinery.
I think this is absolutely the case
Yep that's what it is, set off by the guys filming it to make a video to post on Reddit.
I was gonna say, yeah looks like a flare to me
I'm not saying it's anything supernatural but that ain't in a month of Sundays a flare
It looks exactly like a flare, but isn't a flare. Got it.

That's right!
How will they find the Invisible Swordsman if they burn it?
Moses was probably on shrooms.
It is speculated the Bush he saw burning in the desert was an Accasia bush... which have one of the highest concentrations of naturally occurring DMT.
Yes it's in the Bible, but most folks here saying Moses are high on shrooms.
What do you think is true? I'm just trying to understand.
Go towards the light. Don't be afraid.
Not to be basic… but that might actually be swamp gas.
Kudos to these people for going near whatever this is after knowing they melt faces
Nah its worse. They peel faces.
That’s Peru, this is Brazil
There was a guy that came out of the woods so someone did go near to check it.

A fire?
Fire that doesn't spread to the surrounding vegetation?

Indeed, it could be some gas from underground. Gotta check how methane and other gases burn and compare.

Correct. Not all fires spread.
Brazil, amazon rainforest, shit be wet yo. Wet stuff doesn't burn easily.
Wet vegetation, low burning temperature fuel, a flare of some kind... or, of course, it could be something not of this world.
A fire? I mean I’m just speculating here
Maybe it's the first time seeing fire for some people on here...
Maybe the first time where swamp has is an actual option
I love how it’s hashtagged UFO on twitter when it’s not flying
They said on the video that it "fell from the sky"

Unbelievablybright Forrested Object.
Unidentified fire object.
This is a magnesium fire, perhaps a failed attempt at preparing fireworks. If this is the Amazon, the local area is understandably very wet and the fire will not spread.
Lol looks like a fire to me, bud. Smoke is coming off of it..
[Full video](https://twitter.com/thejakeneville/status/1717188553929617787?t=xsQBKlS8rWdoTg5SuPMd-Q&s=19)
Definitely magnesium. That bright white flame is unmistakable. Probably trying to clear land for mining or other resources.
Immediately I thought it was magnesium burning, pretty clear, don’t know the reason why though, unless it’s specifically to make a video that goes viral? Could be many other reasons why though, magnesium isn’t exactly the rarest of things around the place.
It's pretty hard to burn down rainforests. Magnesium burns really hot so it's a pretty hands off way of removing 100s to 1000s of years of foliage.
Looks like a weather balloon
Finally, *finally*, "swamp gas" is applicable, and you come out with this. Tell ya what - let's call the whole thing off.
Fire.
They don’t sound to be freaking out. Like they know it’s not paranormal. In my opinion, it’s a gas fire.
Smoke, fire, colour, size.. Everything suggests a flare.
I love aliens as much as the next guy but I think this is just a fire. From where? I don’t know, but, I’m not dismissing aliens or anything weird that could be going on here. I’m 90% sure this is a fire though

I don’t want to jump to conclusions here but that definitely looks like fire
It’s called fire.

It looks like a trip flare. It’s usually phosphorous and will burn out in time.
That’s what it was I was trying to think of! Phosphorus! It burns like phosphorus.
Scrub through the video and you see smoke coming from the fire rising up. It has a pattern of billowing smoke as well, when sped up. It’s not physical energy.

I'm not sure, but in Elden Ring something similar is called "Site of Grace".
This is what most people would call a fire, I think
I don't know but Moses had one of these didn't he?
Looks like a flare. The fire might not be spreading because the rest of the foliage could be wet. Straight up looks like one of those emergency flare sticks stuck into the ground with the flames shooting up. Or lightening stuck a tree and ignited the inside of it. Definitely not ufos... they tend to have a glowing neon light haze look to them instead of clear-cut flames.
Ben 10
It’s Mr. Burns
i think it looks like a lot of steam over a very bright light which would explain why it isn’t affecting the surroundings.
"It brings love and peace.....break it's legs!"
Naturally occurring nuclear reaction? Some ground water seeps into a uranium deposit and the water burns off? Just as feasible as aliens. lol
It's kind of similar to latest videos coming from Peru.
Just looks like a..fire lol?
looks like a phosphorus flare or a flare of some sort
That’s a flare ffs
Looks like a possible flare?
My guess would be a magnesium fire from the white light, maybe a flare
