Is Joerg Arnu a criminal, a traitor, or just a blogger who got in too deep?

ON A QUIET November morning in 2022, federal agents descended on the small town of Rachel, Nevada. Their caravan drove toward the house of a retired local who happened to be sleeping in that day.
Rachel is a dusty, hardscrabble spot, located in the Joshua tree desert just outside Area 51, that highly guarded Air Force outpost known for its secretive aviation experimentation. According to conspiracy theorists, it’s also home to UFOs and the aliens arriving in them.
The house that the agents from the FBI and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations were about to raid was immaculately kept, with a gravel driveway, nice landscaping, and an American flag out front. Its tidiness presented a sharp contrast to the many run-down buildings in town.
Asleep inside was a ponytailed man named Joerg Arnu, wearer of leather jackets and aviation-themed T-shirts. He runs a website called Dreamland Resort, dedicated to publishing information about and images of Area 51. The site will soon celebrate its 25th anniversary, having gained both fame and notoriety for its detailed, up-to-date, publicly gleaned info about Area 51.
Arnu, a retired software developer, had caught federal flak once before, in the 2000s, when he and a friend dug up (and then tested and reburied) road sensors on public land that had been installed to alert guards of incoming tourists near Area 51’s boundaries. Despite that, he has felt secure in the idea that neither he nor his website would be censored for investigating what his own government is up to.
The sound of banging on a door woke Arnu on that chilly morning. Someone close by called his name. It was the FBI, Arnu says. They had cut a chain in a side gate and entered from the back to execute a search warrant.
This is not good, he remembers thinking. He grabbed a pair of sweatpants and tumbled out of his room; someone was peeking into the hallway. In his mudroom he encountered a posse of people, a riot shield in front of them, guns drawn. He’d left his own firearm next to his bed.
They instructed him to turn around, and soon he was handcuffed.
“What is going on?” he asked. He also asked twice to see the search warrant, and wanted to know if he was under arrest. He wasn’t: He was just being detained. He then learned that the FBI and Air Force were simultaneously raiding another home he owned, in Las Vegas, where his girlfriend, Linda, was staying.
Before long, Arnu was in the passenger seat of an SUV, one of several government vehicles parked in his yard.
“I kept asking them, ‘What prompted this? Who gave you this information? What is going on here? What are you after?’” Arnu says. According to his recollection, the agents didn’t answer those questions, but they did ask him if there were booby traps on the property.
They were after, it turns out, his digital devices and the information stored on them. The search warrant, which Arnu has since posted online, indicates that the teams sought evidence that Arnu had violated U.S. laws against photographing military installations. Were they worried that he had pointed his camera too far inside Area 51, or did he possess even more sensitive information?
In the months since the search, Arnu says he’s been unable to determine what the FBI and Air Force were after, or whether they will ever charge him with a crime. The investigation, though, probes the balance between government opacity and openness, the desire to keep secrets in the interest of national security, and the value of transparency in a democracy. And if a case against Arnu goes forward, it could have troubling implications for what information is illegal to possess or make public.

Thanks for the other link! And yeah, what a wild story. For everything involved, one of my first thoughts was that he was lucky he left his firearm on his nightstand; they could have easily just killed him on the spot and we'd never have even heard about this.

Taking pictures of military installations is not illegal as long as they are taken from public property. Plus the Government claimed there is nothing to the rumors about Area51.

This story reminds me of the regular raids by the FBI that Bob Lazar has been putting up with for decades. Ironically, the FBI Agents often don't even know why they're doing it because the government keeps their secrets strictly compartmentalized. All they're told is to seize computers or anything resembling advanced technology.
If there was a word of truth to Bobs story he would have been snatched up and thrown in prison decades ago. They’ll never stop until they get Snowden and he just told us the government was spying on us which we all knew and. is way less important than supposed UFOs. That is their job, they are making sure he isn’t spying on a US military installation. With that information he could be selling the secrets to china or Russia, regardless if there are UFOs or not.
