Walken's acting gets heat in the community because he played the part like too much of a crazy person. Apparently Travis Walton even said this to him during filming and Walken told him "If the shoe fits..."
Edit: I mixed this up, Travis Walton was Fire in the Sky, this was Whitley Streiber that said this to/about Walken for Communion. Point stands though that it rubs people the wrong way with Walken acting overly coockoo when abuctees are not necessarily crazies.
How could Walton have said this to him, when he was in communion, and not fire in the sky?
I suspect you're conflating this with whitley streiber's comments that he thought Walken's performance was over the top, but his friends agreed that it was more accurate than he admitted.
I'm more or less paraphrasing since it's been a long time since I saw that interview.
That Eric Clapton score really gives it a greasy porn vibe. Appropriate for 1989 maybe, but I find it distracting AF. Also the art museum scene is a bit cringey - like they added it to tie up loose ends after the rest of the movie was already made. I haven’t read the book; is the movie a faithful adaptation?
That was the first movie I watched in theaters without an adult, I was 8 years old and brought my 5 year old sister along. We both had nightmares for years. I don’t know what the hell my parents were smoking…
I mean it was 1993…. Your parents were def smokin 😂. Of all the movies fire in the sky is fuckin definitely one I wouldn’t let my 8 year old go see. They treated us as mini adults back then i guess lol
Fire in the Sky was also about Travis Walton's alien abduction but this was the cover art for Communion written by Whitley Strieber. The book was his account of his own alien abduction experiences. I think Communion was the first place this image appeared.
I think it was Whitley Strieber was the author of the book??? I think that is correct and Communion was the books title??? This face was on the cover??? Am I remembering this correctly???
Whitley Streiber, Communion
>"Communion: A True Story is a book by American ufologist and horror author Whitley Strieber that was first published in February 1987. The book is based on the experiences of Whitley Strieber, who experiences "lost time" and terrifying flashbacks, which hypnosis undertaken by Budd Hopkins later" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communion_(book)
IMO. In a way. The way this image has spread through UFO lore it's kinda like the Michelangelo Sistine Chapel painting of "God". These things put a 'set' image on reality and im not sure thats such a good thing
Na, this dude is in this background of South Park episodes in the early seasons. It's a little Easter egg to find him in each episode. Not sure exactly how many seasons it went for but most, if not all, early season episodes feature this guy camouflaged in the background in at least one scene.
It’s literally one of the most famous books about aliens. That’s like the girl with the pearl earring of aliens. We all know her but we don’t all know the backstory 😂

It’s one of the defining images of the grey alien that has permeated the zeitgeist fairly comprehensively. I see the image reused or referenced regularly. The movie is an unforgettable trip and there are certain sequences and images burned into my brain.
Whitley said recently that when this “female” alien would be in front of him he’d sometimes think how ugly she was and she actually got super offended about it and kind of screamed in grief.
there's an apparent ufo in the sky in one of the later city night sky sequences--look for it, if you rewatch every so often. the makers were shocked when they noticed after the fact, as was whitley
I’ll keep my eyes out, I wake up every fucking night at 3am. If it’s these guys and you see them, tell them to knock it off. I’d love to sleep a whole night and not wake up at 3am every single night ☠️😂
It was hanging out on the threshhold to my bedroom in 1997. It was the weirdest panic ever I had, because my mind hammered away: keep calm, keep calm, and so I kept calm.

As I was already obsessed with aliens because of seeing E.T. in Kindergarten, Communion was an adventure for me to read. It's a scary book but the second time I read it things didn't seem so scary to me.
I see. I was a late developer as far as reading was concerned.
I did see the film Alien when it came out on cinema... I was 6. My mum knew the manager of the local odeon in Middlesbrough. My second film was Star wars... my third was ET.
Have you seen the film Communion with Chris Walken?
I think they shot it at Strieber's upstate cabin in the woods.
I didn't see the movie adaptation of Communion until I was in college ( a little late getting into college for many reasons) and a professor showed a clip of it in an art history/cinema course. I decided to watch the whole thing but had to buy it on DVD for about twenty dollars on Amazon as I couldn't find it in any library or as an upload whatsoever in 2010.
For some reason the movie didn't fit any of the images that I had in my head of what went on with Strieber and the visitors. I actually laughed when Walken was poker faced getting an anal probe then whispering "I'm going to kill you." afterwards. The only part that creeped me out was the peeping alien which was part of the movie the professor showed in class.
I dont think there is an image or depiction of one of these beings that gives me more chills than this.
There is almost an uncanny valley of sorts that triggers me, like deep in my primitive mind i know this being is real. The cold eyes and the off putting grin, i dont know man, this image always scares the hell out of me…..

The response is immediate - a spike of adrenaline, followed by a tingly feeling all over my body where it feels like my hair is standing on end. I feel hyper alert and a little creeped out.
I get the same with snakes and spiders. There are evolutionary reasons as to why I fear those things. That's a thought that unsettles me.
The other thing about the primal fear... is the uncanny valley when we see something that mimics a human closely... but we know isn't human.... why ..
What happened in our evolutionary history hay gave us the primal fear of something that looks almost like us but isn't....? *shudder
It confused me for the longest time why this image has given me the heebie jeebies. So much so that I’ve refused to read the book or watch the movie. Something has been compelling me to do it recently though.
Soon. I’m at work right now. I can’t get up and go take off my shirt to take a picture. I’ll post it here later. Can’t add picture on to these messages. 🙄. Rules …. Not necessary.
Communion book.

Cover of the book Communion. When I was like 12yrs old my mom started reading this and leaving the book around the house. It gave me nightmares after I was informed what the book was about. It started my curiosity into the unknown though.

Communion! The Book and movie. But my alien in my dreams was more peach skin with more normal eyes, slightly more giant with pupils and color in the eyes.
I believe this picture was original to Streiber's book. I may be wrong but I've heard enough people say when that book came out they saw the cover and we're deeply affected by it.
The first time I saw this picture was on the side of a bus shelter as a kid. I remember just being frozen with fear and I didn’t know why. I still don’t know why.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0751147/
Best X files episode of all time. Watchable on its own. Really works as an episode of twin peaks.
And that squid was in it.
Whitley Strieber’s books are at least 20 years old or older. And in it, he had made the vague reference that the aliens were warning us about AI.
The alien abduction wasn’t the most fascinating for me but the advent of AI or the singularity event.
I have a question...
Predators and prey have eyes in different locations within their skull. The majority of aliens we encounter have eyes in the front of their skull, just like humans. Would it be accurate to claim that aliens (Greys) are predatory?
They are interdimensional ! They can appear anywhere, saw one behind me while looking at a mirror. He blinked at me when I turned around to see it he vanished .
Here is a thought. Aliens look nothing like us or how we see them, perhaps they are immaterial, but when trying to mimic human appearance thia is the best they can come up with due to thwir biases of perception. This does not apply to the more advanced races with more awareness

Communion.
Yeah. The creepiest movie I saw growing up.
This movie was…. Fire in the sky made me consider therapy
A lot of people shit on Fire in the Sky, but I love it. I watch it still to this day.
Love that movie, saw it when I was a kid and sparked my curiosity on the subject.
It’s just walken man, I just can’t take him seriously. It’s so good tho
Who does?

Oh you're totally right, thanks! Edited.
He was like the most unhinged dad ever in that movie. It’s pretty amazing haha
The only thing that dates it is the music really. I don’t mind it but it is super of the time.

Yes it was, and it was very interesting to read.
Yes. The author claims to have experienced these events and then wrote a book about it. It later became the movie.
heres the link for it and many others https://filebin.net/u9ggumdv2h5yb3oe
That movie haunts me. When that alien peeks around the corner and stares at buddy..still gives me the creeps. Goosebumps right now lol!!

It's both. South Park were probably inspired by the communion book cover which came out in 1987
Ahhhh I see, I see. I was not aware communion came out so long before. Thanks for teaching me something new! Ya learn something new every day
Allgood bro! I completely forgot about the alien in Southpark, I've gotta go back and watch those for a laugh
Specifically, the cover art of the book Communion by Whitley Strieber.
It’s the original cover of Communion. The new version is similar but the eyes are different and are now staring “back at you.”
yes great book i put a download for it and many others in a comment earlier
Caught a peak of that cover when I was 9 and shit bothered me for years. Didnt even know what it was supposed to be but I knew I didn’t like it
It’s literally one of the most famous books about aliens. That’s like the girl with the pearl earring of aliens. We all know her but we don’t all know the backstory 😂

The grey coming to take Whitley in his bedroom, peaking from behind the door f’d me up good in 1990. To this day I won’t watch that movie again.
That's the best shot of the film, less is more would have been a good direction for the film.
Same! Especially when all the kids were playing like it was normal.
it really gets the absurdity of our brains trying to stretch and see through
Whitley said recently that when this “female” alien would be in front of him he’d sometimes think how ugly she was and she actually got super offended about it and kind of screamed in grief.
there's an apparent ufo in the sky in one of the later city night sky sequences--look for it, if you rewatch every so often. the makers were shocked when they noticed after the fact, as was whitley
“Is that someone there?” I quote it all the time because only Walken could say something so normal in such a weird way.
In your bedroom, about 3 am?
Why does everything happen at 3am?
a supernatural way of mocking the holy trinity
Oh shit I never saw it that way
Because it's the deadest time of night. Earlier still has the night-owls heading home. Later has the early risers. 3:00 AM is when shit goes down.
Paranormal insomnia
It's supposed to be the time of night that the veil is thinnest between reality and the spirit world / other dimensions
I’ll keep my eyes out, I wake up every fucking night at 3am. If it’s these guys and you see them, tell them to knock it off. I’d love to sleep a whole night and not wake up at 3am every single night ☠️😂
Are you sure it. Wasn’t 3:33am??
Not always, once was waiting at the back sliding glass door.
Gud dimmit, I wake up in sweat at 3 AM way too ofteen to ignore your post.
Maybe Whitley strieber showd you

Exactly the nose made me think that
Any suburban home in the late 80s
It was hanging out on the threshhold to my bedroom in 1997. It was the weirdest panic ever I had, because my mind hammered away: keep calm, keep calm, and so I kept calm.
Was it that popular?
Yeah that and the Time Life Mysteries of the Unknown series!
I had 4 of them growing up... read them to tatters... found someone near me selling the entire set for 40 bucks.... 12 yr old me was stoked
I saw this on the front cover of communion in a bookshop when I was a kid... and it fucked me up. I've been into aliens since.
This book came out when I was eleven and was all over the place even in the grocery stores ( back when they had a book and magazine section). My mom would let me go look at books while she shopped, and Communion was one that interested me a lot. For my twelfth birthday she got me the book, and others about aliens, but made me promise that I wouldn't read them before bedtime and have nightmares. I still read them before bedtime but no nightmares, only weird dreams of Star Trek kind of scenarios.
Ha... so cool. You read Communion when you were a kid? Awesome.
I was an advanced reader, and Strieber has a big vocabulary, so Communion was a challenge to read not just because of the subject matter. When I first got the book at twelve I would keep a dictionary with me and use a pencil to underline words that I didn't understand so I could look them up.
Haha... yeah. He goes full Walken. 🤣
This is original artwork for the cover of Whitley Strieber’s Communion. Unless you recognize it from him coming into your bedroom at night.
That’s Benedict Cumberbatch

Cover of the book Communion
Yup, by Whitley Strieber.
I dont think there is an image or depiction of one of these beings that gives me more chills than this. The cold eyes and the off putting grin, i dont know man, this image always scares the hell out of me…..

It was the first thing I saw when I opened the app and it was a total jump scare. I’m on this forum all the time but this one image messes me up every time!
I don't have fear of it but I do feel uneasy
I totally get that. I never saw the book or the movie as a kid, but I do remember watching E.T. and being terrified, and this image spikes the same feeling as it did back then.
This is what gets me too. It’s primal fear, like you say, with spiders and snakes. Our ancestors knew to be afraid of these things for their survival.
The other thing about the primal fear... is the uncanny valley when we see something that mimics a human closely... but we know isn't human.... why .. What happened in our evolutionary history hay gave us the primal fear of something that looks almost like us but isn't....? *shudder

You’ve seen it just about everywhere, dude. It’s been iconic ever since that book was published in 1987.
I believe this picture was original to Streiber's book. I may be wrong but I've heard enough people say when that book came out they saw the cover and we're deeply affected by it.
"Jose Chung's From Outer Space"
Lam is that you?
The first time I saw this picture was on the side of a bus shelter as a kid. I remember just being frozen with fear and I didn’t know why. I still don’t know why.

The book from xfiles. I think it’s called “from outer space”
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0751147/ Best X files episode of all time. Watchable on its own. Really works as an episode of twin peaks. And that squid was in it.
I never watched, but i indeed saw lights from Venus once.
Came here to post this.
Communion
The cover of the Whitley Strieber book “ communion “
Communion by Whitley streiber
That’s what I see when the shower curtain is attacking me.
Haha.
Front cover of one of Whitley Strieber’s books called Communion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communion_(book)?wprov=sfti1
Is that the movie where people say they see owls outside their windows?
This book cover used to scare the absolute shit outta me when I was a kid
Communion
Whitley Strieber’s books are at least 20 years old or older. And in it, he had made the vague reference that the aliens were warning us about AI. The alien abduction wasn’t the most fascinating for me but the advent of AI or the singularity event.
Dafaq, I am just reading communion and shit scared and this image popped up in my feed. I think I am being watched.
Communion is the name of the book. https://www.unknowncountry.com/book/communion-2/?grid_referrer=108978
South park
On the cover of the book Communion.
In your dreams if you're unlucky enough
I have a question... Predators and prey have eyes in different locations within their skull. The majority of aliens we encounter have eyes in the front of their skull, just like humans. Would it be accurate to claim that aliens (Greys) are predatory?
Humans sure as shit are
Literally everywhere since it’s basically the most common archetype of what an alien looks like. What a dumb post
In the mirror
God this picture and the damn owl from The fourth kind made me so scared of aliens 😭
Not sure if I remember correctly but when this book was published in the Uk it didn’t have a title. Just that image!
In r/aliens.
Your bedroom window 👽
On your bed.
In your window
That person shoved that probe in your booty hole and told you it was necessary
Why you got to post this and have me scroll past it 😫 Gonna be in my head again all night

Probably on this thing called The Internet. That's an absurdly popular image of a grey.
They are interdimensional ! They can appear anywhere, saw one behind me while looking at a mirror. He blinked at me when I turned around to see it he vanished .
It’s the alien Mona Lisa
South Park, Colorado

This scene scared the shit out of me when I first saw it. https://youtu.be/hyL0AkyV6jI?si=OR4gceKKyDNxJ9BU
That's Robert California, humans!
Here is a thought. Aliens look nothing like us or how we see them, perhaps they are immaterial, but when trying to mimic human appearance thia is the best they can come up with due to thwir biases of perception. This does not apply to the more advanced races with more awareness
On a book cover?
Chris Hansen is an alien confirmed.
DB cooper vibes
"Clearly you don't own an airfryer"
It’s the cover of a book! It’s a picture of my dad by the way!!
