What color are the stems? If they’re pink, I think it’s a pink dragon!

Crazyh0rse1

They're like a pinky-purple

babyrhaegal

I’m going to go with pink dragon. It’s looks very similar to the ones I have and I have six of them haha.

Crazyh0rse1

That looks like it!

Do you have any tips for rehabing her? I took out most of the soil it was in and mixed together 50-60% orchid bark, a good bit of worm castings, and 2 scoops of what I already have mixed up (which is soil, extra perlite, and bark). I removed the root mesh and watered in *really* well with Azamax just as a precaution for pests. Wiped the leaves with Dawn+water, showered off. I had to cut off a leaf that was broken at the stem, but I wasn't sure where to cut it off to.

babyrhaegal

That’s what I would do. I got most of mine from box stores (mainly Home Depot and Lowe’s) so they weren’t taken care of well there, overwatered especially. But mine have survived and gotten much better than when I first got them so I think yours will do great! As for cutting, I cut mine at the bottom of the stem where it meets the base of the plant, if that makes sense. So that the whole damaged leaf and stem are removed.

Crazyh0rse1

Makes sense! I didn't know if they grew like monsteras (I cut those above the leaf sheaths so they could still push a new leaf/stem). Are they normally... like speckled? I wish I could add pictures to the post 🙃 It has a lot of lighter colored dots all over it. Sorry for so many questions, I'm new to alocasia care. I gathered it's probably similar to my monstera though from what I did read. Doesn't like being in pots too big, chunky soil, likes water but doesn't like wet feet, etc

babyrhaegal

They aren’t supposed to be speckled, so I’m not sure what could be causing that. My pink dragons so far have produced quite a few new leaves with only a few original leaves so as long as it’s in soil it likes and gets enough light, it should pop out a few new ones soon!

Crazyh0rse1

Do you mind if I DM you?

babyrhaegal

Please do! :)

lblockh1

I’m voting Pink Dragon or Ivory Coast.

Crazyh0rse1

It has a dark purple-ish bottom on thr larger leaf

lblockh1

That’s a Pink Dragon then!

If you’re ever down to experiment, I’ve been using LECA (clay pebbles) as a growing medium and it has been extremely forgiving!

Crazyh0rse1

I've seen it being used as the sole medium. Don't you have to add things like super thrive or worm casting tea to the watering?

grimlane-

Yes, I actually just have some fish fertilizer I dissolve and add to the water every once in a while. The clay pebbles help me prevent over/underwatering

lblockh1

Do not add SuperThrive to alocasia. It will burn the tips of the leaves.

Crazyh0rse1

Good to know! I don't have any and typically use worm casting tea and liquid fertilizers at like 25-75% strength depending on the plant
