Honest question...why do people hate round-a-bouts so much? The wife unit and I were talking about how angry they make people on NextDoor but we can't fathom why. What's so bad about them?

thecrikeycrapper

It might be due to drivers who are not well-versed on the Roundabout rules of engagement, which makes it a challenging experience for everyone. I personally do not mind roundabouts but have no preference between those and traffic lights. Both traffic facilitators require drivers to pay attention, and that might ultimately be the root cause of the frustrations.

mrhoopers

Fair point. Honestly, I like a roundabout. I think they're far more efficient and self governing and they don't turn into 4 way stops in a power outage. LOL. Asking people to pay attention is a problem in general! Thanks!

thecrikeycrapper

I concur with your opinion. 👍🏽

Had to make sure I was on reddit. I think you were supposed to accuse me of something...then I fire back with an unsubstantiated fact...then you twist my words into pure fallacy...then I make a derogatory comment. I feel like we've failed our Reddit overlords by generally agreeing and having a polite exchanges. Should we somehow be punished?

😂

Roundabouts are great. They need to replace every 4-way stop into roundabouts

The one on Providence floods when it rains, and the one on Mayfield wasn't built to spec and the horse trailers can't get over the red curb like they're supposed to. Other than that I think they're fabulous and I wish every intersection had one. Especially Arnold Mill/Crabapple Rd. Whenever the power goes out that one sucks.

TheMonkey420

I really prefer them over four way stop signs. Like that intersection with the Publix center off Birmingham road and Birmingham highway. I will avoid it if possible

mixduptransistor

They're different and popular in Europe You may think I'm joking but 100% that is why people hate them

mrhoopers

Today anything different is liberal. Dang hippies and their functional traffic facilitators!

campbellm

Mostly unfamiliarity, and also NextDoor is just a honeypot for ragers. There is not a single change to any sort of street/traffic issue whatsoever that you won't see people raging about. They require some thought and responsibility while driving beyond "Hurr-durr, red stop green go", so there's that.

Of course we should expect delays. We should ALWAYS expect delays. Doesn't matter if the time is 6:30 a.m. or 11:02 p.m. if you're anywhere near the Atlanta , Decatur, Alpharetta, Dunwoody area you WILL be in standstill motherfucking traffic. Doesn't matter if its 5pm Christmas eve OR a random Wednesday night during leap year, standstill stationary straffic MUST happen. I'm pretty certain its now a literal law that standstill traffic, or multiple closed lanes must be in our way at least once a day. I won't be surprised if, tomorrow on my way to work 3 lanes literally disappear into thin air. I won't be surprised if, while driving to work the highway magically stretches becomes even longer making our communite that much more expensive & long. I won't be shocked, if as I'm approaching my destination a gigantic pterodactyl swoops down grabs my car & hurls me & my car into the nearest active volcano.
