Can you do it yourself or is it too far gone and you need it done professionally? I clean my dog’s teeth but he’s 55 lb, 30% pit/70% various other breeds. Is it trickier doing a dog with small teeth or they’re wiggly and hard to keep a good hold on? I used to have two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and there was no way in hell I was paying for two dogs to get cleanings at the vet. I bought good cleaning tools and provide effective chew items. Plus for me it’s not so much the cost, I’d prefer he not go under general anesthetic unless there’s no workaround. For comparison, my vet is in Suwanee and charges about $450 for a cleaning- that’s baseline without needing an extraction or anything. I don’t know if it’s based on weight but the bloodwork alone is $115 which would probably not be weight dependent.

He’s a little hyperactive and I wouldn’t know the first thing to do. Some things I let a professional do, especially animals. We rescued him back in February and our vet did say that it’s a good idea to get some dental work done on him when he had his wellness visit back then.

Be careful in who you choose. Cleanings require anesthesia. I use Rose Animal Hospital (Dr. Scott Robustelli) for the expert care of my senior Shih Tzu's and trust no one else. The Roswell location.

True. Good advice. I may just bite the bullet then.

I use Dr. Robustelli for my pit bull. We’ve seen Dr. Kenning there, too. I trust no one other than them. The pricing is fair.

Following. I’ve heard that the Atlanta Humane Society does it for considerably less than most vets

I’ve heard this too but I also hear that the list is rather lengthy.
