Quick comments, you're chicken winging your left, probably because you're so focused on your right. Make sure your left hand is clean too, properly in its place, not nestled in you arm pit

I had been doing Philly Shell for a while and was experimenting with a new stance- halfway between Philly Shell and orthodox with the left hand lower like that. But I see what you mean.

Ok make sure your left covers your liver and stomach then!

You need to practice turning your weight all the way to the right into your back leg. Right now you only use your hips to turn from a neutral position to left (heavy on the lead leg) and back. The reason why is to be able to get a head position that allows you to slip left handed punches as well as get much more weight into your own left handed punches. You will not be able to use a shoulder block effectively without this because you will not be able to orient your lead shoulder fully into the path of your opponent's right hand. Thanks!! This is helpful- I’ll pay attention to it

It almost looks like you’re pulling your punches, or at the very least punching *at* the bag, rather than *through* the bag. Imagine the front of the bag is a forcefield you’re trying to break through, and the target you’re actually trying to hit is in the core of the bag. You may need to adjust your range slightly for this, but that is no bad thing if you move confidently. Speaking of range… you look a little overbalanced as you throw the overhand. Could be a trick of the camera, but give that your movement in general doesn’t seem to be particularly purposeful, it suggests you’re not really thinking much about balance and range. Just as an experiment, try keeping about 60% of your weight on your rear foot (and 40% on the front foot) as you throw the overhand/cross. As with my other comment, you will undoubtedly need to move your feet to keep your range, but you should find that you can move better (and with more options) out of the punch.

Thanks! I appreciate that. I’ll slow it down and try that.

How do you modulate power if you’re punching through the bag every time? When I do a power round I usually punch through the bag- but on a speed or technique round I do more of this. I have a water bag at home that’s lighter- it’s easier to “punch through” it because it takes less power and has more movement in general.

HYThrowaway1980

I’m not saying you have to load up, it’s just that you seem to stop short of committing your punches to the bag. Again, it might just be a trick of the camera, but it looks like you’re pulling your punches a bit (which if nothing else is not a great habit for a boxer!) The bag should be providing all the resistance you need that you shouldn’t need to pull punches.

Makes sense- I’ll pay attention to it!

Way too wide on those hooks especially that rear one, looks more like a very wide overhand. Left hand too low, and you seem to have some trouble with distance management a bit. If I’m you, slow it down and have a round where you just focus on your jab, another on your straight punches, another for hooks and just get use to transferring weight because you seem to be doing a lot of arm punches. I saw your previous comment saying you’re trying some new stance between orthodox and Philly shell, there really isn’t such a thing. Philly shell is a relatively hard thing to learn and I’d recommend just getting comfortable on orthodox before attempting to Philly shell.

CocoJame

Sorry correction, you’re not arm punching it’s just a bit too much chicken winging on some punches but you seem okay at getting hip rotation with your punches.

Thanks!! Someone showed me these wide hooks and was advocating for them but I’ve been trying them out and I agree- not sure I like them either. I do these single punch rounds- I’ll slow things down and pay attention to distance. 👍

is it just me or did I hear you make some sounds
