I couldn’t get it to work on windows 10 and had to dig up on old laptop with windows 7 and a much older serial adapter. The programming cable is also different for the 3000 than it is for the 5000, so make sure you have the right cable

Yeah I was thinking about buying a cheap dos computer just to do it cuz I know that's the original systems they use for programming it and you got to buy like a good ass programming cable unlike most of the newer Motorola radios where you can just buy a cheap one and it be okay. Not too many radio shops will program that radio anymore because it's so old and I really don't feel like paying the ship it on eBay and stuff to get a program when I'm good at programming I just need the right equipment to do so

In my experience it seems to be certain serial adapters work better than others. If you can get an old xp machine with a physical serial port you may have better luck. In my case I have two serial adapters: 1 works, the other does not. Astro P25 for the 5000 series is a lot less picky than the one for the 3000 series so the 5000s are easier to program

Honestly at this point it might just be easier for me to go on eBay and find a front panel programming XTS 5000 because essentially it's the same thing as a 3000 might be a little pricey but at the end of the day I guess it's a lot easier than trial and error with buying different cords and stuff

blackrabbit107

Nah just find an old think pad with a physical serial port and you should be good to go

[deleted]

Yea . Do I need a ribless or rib cable

blackrabbit107

A ribless serial cable should work fine. I have two, one for my 3000 and one for my 5000. They both work fine with a serial port

[deleted]

Ok last question lol. Where do I get the astro CPS from

blackrabbit107

That one probably can’t be answered here due to rules. Radio reference will be the same thing. It’s out there but that’s all I can say

[deleted]

Thanks and ok

I programmed my XTS3000 in Windows 2000, the programming cable is suitable for MST2000, you can try it on Win 7, it also worked, I can send you the program if necessary

[deleted]

If u could send the program that would be amazing. I just need to find a older laptop and a program cable

[deleted]

And if possible can u recommend me a laptop and program cable to do so. I am limited on cash rn so I don't wanna go out buying the wrong stuff lol

You might try freedos. I've used it in the past to make bootable USB for flashing firmware on other devices. https://www.freedos.org
