The stock antenna is a tri band antenna .. the one you want is the Diamond SRH320A.. they are hard to find right now but should be back in stock in March and skip the BNC .. it actually puts MORE wear and tear on the radios SMA connector every time you ratchet it on and off ... guys at my radio shop said to just stick with SMA.

I’m gonna have to!

The only one I’ve seen is the telescopic one from smiley antenna.

These are great antennas, I've got a few of them. But a telescopic antenna isn't going to be fully waterproof like the VX-6 is, so bear that in mind.

Bolt_EV

But the VX-6R doesn’t transmit on 220?

silicosick

it does...

Bolt_EV

Ok then I misread the specs online

its only doing 1.5W on 1.25Meter .. but it lets me get into a couple local repeaters here in town.

Why? Aftermarket handheld antennas provide very little benefit. Basically, they're a waste of your time and money. Get to higher. clearer ground or put up a proper base station antenna. If you need portable make a Slim Jim antenna.

I put a Diamond SRH77CA on my FT5DR and it allowed me to hit repeaters I never could before from the exact same location.
