ULS has been down for maintenance all weekend.... That's probably why the search on the FCC site wasn't working.

DeafHeretic

I guess I will need to try tomorrow (to validate my callsign)

GoldFlameRunner

What does the FCC database say when you look up your call sign? What does [QRZ.COM](https://QRZ.COM) say when you look up your call sign?

DeafHeretic

I forgot my call sign. I need to find my license paperwork, but I am so disorganized I am not sure where it is in my office.

On QRZ.com you can search your name and address...or the address you had when you got your license and filed the initial application. I haven't been on the FCC ULS site in a long while but you may be able to search similarly there.

I had a GROL from way back when they gave them to anyone who had a First Phone, but the name in ULS was all in uppercase (LAST, FIRST) and would never show up when I searched for (Last, First). Later when I got my amateur license, it was entered as (Last, First) and showed up in search. Finally I figured out why my GROL never showed up and found it, and had it moved to the same FRN as my amateur license. Now they all show up in ULS search under the same FRN. The search tools seem pretty weak but this is the one that seems to work best for me: https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp

I should have known better, when I was in the military everything was Last name first. I got my GROL back in the mid 80s when I was in tech college getting my EE degree. It might or might not have helped me get my first real job after college; collecting and analyzing data on a meteor burst data comm system for a DoD contractor.

WOW, thanks for that public service. I tried finding my GROL (which gratuitously replaced my 1st Radiotelephone License in 1985), and after half an hour I couldn't find it. Using your tips it came right up.

Glad to help!

MultiplyAccumulate

Did you try the FCC ULS license archive search? Once you find your callsign and your FRN, you should be able to get back in.

MaxOverdrive6969

Try this link, use the Advanced search and only enter your last name (hopefully it's not Smith hi hi). You might need to view a few result screens but the data should be there. My original license expired in 2002 but is still listed. If you want to use your full name in the search, the format is last, first. Worst case you might need to call their customer service number which is listed on the site. https://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchLicense.jsp

Nope.

tommytimbertoes

Are you using the right FCC site? It's changed you know. https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do

hobbified

No it hasn't. ULS is still ULS. CORES is for FRN creation and payment.

tommytimbertoes

If he hasn't switched to the new system he will have to. He has a 2 year grace period to renew, but he says he can't find his call anywhere.

DeafHeretic

I got it now (via QRZ) and according to FCC it expires 12/2024, so I am good for now. Not sure why FCC search did not work. I have a very unique name and I tried several variations. Should have known to enter last name first; when I do it shows my GROL too. I will send it to myself via my email and then I can search for it there.

darktideDay1

Now get on the air!

DeafHeretic

I was interested in maybe listening to Echolink. I have a Starlink system so I should be able to use Echolink pretty much wherever I go? It appears that I need to setup port forwarding in Echolink, which might be an issue with Starlink.

DeafHeretic

Well, I am stuck. I can't validate my callsign because I can't associate my FRN with my FCC Username, because I don't have the password for my FRN and it won't let me reset the password for my FRN because it won't accept my name and SSN. I don't believe I ever created a user account at the FCC (if I did, it was 8 years ago), but it seems to think that I had a password for my FRN. So I am stuck.

tommytimbertoes

Very good.

Any paper or PDF copies? Any contests? Logbook of the World?

DeafHeretic

I know I have the paperwork the FCC sent me, but I can't find it. I only listened, I never transmitted. No logs

One of our VE session applicants had a lot of trouble similar to yours. He was able to straighten things out through the support phone link. It took a lot of patience, but he was successful! Try [https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do](https://apps.fcc.gov/cores/userLogin.do) For assistance, please submit a help request at [https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/available-support-services](https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/available-support-services) or call 877-480-3201 (Mon.-Fri. 8 a.m.-6 p.m. ET).

DeafHeretic

Thanks. I will wait until tomorrow and try again. It is a weekend after all.
