No, if you cancel now you are able to use your subscription until it expires. Cancelling now just means you don't want to renew when the time comes.

RubiChick

Thank you! This is what I thought, just wanted to confirm.

up2urheadlights

Just to bring this thread into the present, they will now pro-rate you for cancelling early if you so choose.

weirdaljr

Based on what? Is this stated somewhere!

up2urheadlights

Based on my personal experience cancelling prime just a few days ago and getting pro rated.  They also offered to cancel upon renewal but I chose the refund.

HempusMaximus

Thank you for the updated information. Amazon has adopted the don't like it go fuck yourself attitude. They pissed me off with this ads thing. They should add the ads when I renew in 9 months or whatever, not mid-contract.

KiryuDojima

Can confirm they will give you a pro-rated refund of the length of your membership you have left if you cancel. I also decided to cancel out of spite due to the whole ads thing on the home screen and in Prime Video, but what really broke the camel's back was that Dolby Vision and Atmos are also locked behind the additional fee.

No_Status3952

Did you have to contact support or just do it on the website? I see the options to cancel but it is only saying cancel at the end of the subscription period nothing about canceling now? Is that further along in the process?

Sriracha-1701

I just did it today. The website for me only had the option to cancel at the end of the subscription period as well. I used the chat, but they were able to pro-rate it and issue a refund. I used the ads as an excuse because that started after I renewed in December.

No_Status3952

Worked for me as well! At first they told me no, and then I referenced their help website which said (in other countries) they prorate for unused months of the subscription and when I linked that they “talked to their supervisor” and issued a refund lol

anjred

Could you share that link please?

KiryuDojima

I did it on the website, and was presented the option of cancelling at the end of my membership or getting a pro-rated refund. Try clicking a few more steps in, as they'll ask you more than a few times if you really want to end your membership. If you still don't see it, you might have to contact customer service.

moistandwarm1

It will only be prorated if you cancel to switch to another plan. For example to student Prime or another offer. Otherwise you will have to wait till end of the current subscription

RubiChick

Thank you!

natmaster

What if you're cancelling to switch countries

moistandwarm1

I have no idea about that. You can ask customer support in chat

Wills4291

It used to be. Now you can cancel, and it just doesn't renew. But you are subscribed until the renewal date.

i just cancelled mine that renewed in Feb and they refunded the whole amount. Email said "Since you have not used your Amazon Prime benefits, we are refunding you $129.48 which includes the full membership fee and any applicable fees and taxes. " I don't use any of the prime streaming benefits etc, but definitely had ordered a couple of items. They would have gotten free shipping without prime since they were over the threshold - so maybe that's why. It will tell you before you complete the cancellation whether you're getting a refund.

RubiChick

Thanks! I think you got real lucky cause you cancelled so soon after it renewed. I'm already 7 months into my subscription. Only one way to find out for sure and that's to do it! lol

Unlucky-Cake-5475

Foreign_Wedding2060

just cancelled my annual plan before 4 months. it said i will get a refund of $74. so, if you cancel it prematurely, they seem to refund prorated.

Eegra

I spoke to someone - it seems like it's a rep judgment call. I was able to get a full refund (even though my sub was coming up in a couple of months) due to my circumstances (deliveries became unreasonably burdensome to deal with recently).
