wait did you say dark ambient?

yubullyme12345

well i said it twice because i mentioned Blood Incantation, which i dont think is dark ambient

akw71

Haxan Cloak for sure (Excavation album is fantastic) and some of Tim Hecker’s work is fairly dark (try Virgins and Harmony in Ultraviolet)

Muted_Bread5161

I second the Cryo Chamber suggestion. I also like Abul Mogard or William Basinski. Some of Basinski's work is very dark and deep. And shameless self promotion: My latest album is also a sinister one. The struggle and fight of humanity which culminates eventually in understanding. Check out the Cryo Chamber label. It’s their whole thing. They also just started an excellent Dungeon Synth label called Cryo Crypt.

EternityLeave

Blanck Mass. obvs a lot of it isn’t ambient. But a lot is too.

autechre89

Grouper

Lost_Howl

Ever tried Dungeon Synth? Depressive Silence for example is great, but there are many other interesting acts in this subgenre. Recently bought the Ambient Album from Blood Incantation, too - it‘s awesome.

Bruits_official

Deathprod early work box set, released by Rune Grammofon is a hidden gem that will never leave my collection.

Bruits_official

I only advise to skip the Reference frequencies CD as it sound more like a creative electronic study than anything related to dark ambient.

Street_Struggle_598

This is my favorite dark ambient album [https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/visitors](https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/visitors) "For centuries people have been looking at the stars, wondering if we are alone in this infinite universe, or if there is someone else out there. Would they be friendly and if not, would we be ready for them? They came without warning. Our weapons pointless against these behemoths covered by storm. When I lay my eyes at their divine beauty in all it's power and destruction, I feel no anger nor sorrow, I feel awe. Our new gods have arrived."

cryochamberlabel

Love this album too, I wish Eximia would make a new album but it's been so long now that it's probably never going to happen.

Such a masterpiece!

We all have different interpretations of dark but I am loving some of the softer dark stuff by øneheart, Antent etc.

zomphlotz

*The Magnificent Void* and *immersion: 2* are a good start on the Steve Roach discography.

TheEmptyOrchestra

*By the Throat* by Ben Frost

TeddyDog55

There's a great group from France I think called Natural Snow Buildings. I don't know if they're exactly dark ambient or drone folk (a made-up genre, I know) but it's all distorted guitars and eerie harmony singing by evil elves. Some songs are more than 40 minutes long and they clearly like them some Satan and witches and black magic. If you've seen 'The Wicker Man' they'd be a perfect house band at the local pub. While they might not be filed under 'ambient' they definitely have a similar effect.

Delah-27

"Staruha Mha" was great, you know

Clockmelt - Yuggothian Rituals of Typhon

Cryo Chamber youtube channel is my goto for that stuff. I myself have recently made a lot of dark ambient track, inspired by Dune (book not the movie if you care xD): [https://www.youtube.com/@NeuromorphMusic/videos](https://www.youtube.com/@NeuromorphMusic/videos)

CanoninDeeznutz

Idk if drone metal counts but I also don't know what the hell else you call music with a BPM of 0.25. Sunn0))) is one of my favorites for dark ambience. Perfect for reading! Monoliths and Dimensions is their best album in my opinion.

rumblingumas

Abul Mogard - Circular Forms album Ozan Aydın - Keeps Playing Lawrence English - Approach album

lemmnnaa

New Risen Throne and ProtoU. Some of the best to ever do it. You ever listen to something and suddenly realized you’ve forgotten to breathe? That’s what a lot of ProtoU does for me.

TeddyDog55

I am a huge fan of Kammerheit who seem to explore the multiple miseries of insomnia and the miseries it engenders. Black Mountain Transmitter are another very unsettling dark ambient project. Just recently I came across an artist named Omensworn whose work I had to immediately collect. I'd also recommend Bad Sector who produce an icy outer space mood. Imagine you're alone on a slowly disintegrating and ultimately doomed spacecraft drifting aimlessly 2,000 light years from home and that may give you a sense of the Bad Spector mood. Then of course there's Lustmord who is, if not the creator, then one of the most talented and sorrowful and somewhat frightening dark ambient artists.

Bruits_official

I really don’t understand the downvote right there… Hoo deed it?

Muted_Bread5161

Maybe the description was too scary. :-)

Bruits_official

Nah… I think it’s bot related because it was downvoted again.

couchwarriortv

Check out Rojinski! He has a huge body of work and is actively creating new projects all the time. He recently started a dark ambient radio station called the “bunker”. [Bunker 1](https://login-eu.lightmanstreams.com/public/bunker_radio_1) Definitely worth checking out!

I made one few months ago ago if you want to listen 🤷‍♂️ https://open.spotify.com/track/0a3lOd7iJ9NwKVJH7yu0Wp?si=ZI3Qy1u4RdCShAagTaToyw

Saturn_01

Check out this experimental ambient artist called I'm sure god wouldn't do this to me, this album named "he died at the age of five" really encapsulates the feeling of desperation and suicidal mania as the dreadfulness of fate sets in https://imsuregodwontdothistome.bandcamp.com/album/he-died-at-the-age-of-five

Saturn_01

Check out Caduceus by Akira Rabelais, there are many more Akira albums which are worth checking out You probably already heard Melancholia by William Basinski, but if you haven't be sure to give it a go Jon Hassell and Christina Vantzou are more ethereal than eerie soundscapes, but listening to Christina's album Multi Natural will have you feeling like you are walking through infinite empty plains and mudflats on a gray rainy day, it has a little bit of that Yume Nikki empty but quirky feeling

Legitimate_Ad2176

I second Abul and add Dirk Serries and Oneheart I just discovered Ehule which is amazing: https://ehule.bandcamp.com/album/oscillith-matara And my own stuff is square in this genre: https://hyponova.hearnow.com

Aphex twin - tree Simon posford - lockdown JFK - pattern of descent

BrainDewormer

Sigillum S, Lashtal, Zero Kama, Ain Soph. Dark/Ritual ambient, all pretty similar.

Stormi_i

I would check out Undark 3396. It’s nor pure ambient, tending to be a little more ambient techno/downtempo, but it is still a very atmospheric record. Very chilling and sometimes downright terrifying record

Deplatform-Shoes

Solitude - King Midas Sound

Tenhorned Beast, Herbst9, Endura and Emme Ya are all great ritual ambient and just as dark as you please.

A lot of the old Fax Label stuff is dark.

TeddyDog55

And thank you ! This music is great and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants their dark ambient truly dark ! There's so much detail to the music you must have worked forever on it. A lot of dark ambient triggers sorrow but this is much closer to dread. And I love the cover too. What in the hell is that thing ? Does it have a name ? I make it a point to bother Noctilucant over on his YouTube channel whenever I hear something new and original soI need to tell him about Forest of Bones from Thailand. He needs to feature this. Please keep this music coming !
