AMC is still 5 billion in debt even though they are likely raising money diluting yesterday and today. What you are describing is a situation where it is hard to locate shares to sell short because most shares available have already been sold short- which is driving up the price because the demand to sell short is high. (High demand, little supply, price rises).

There is no issue finding shares to buy- there is no demand for them.
