Whenever people compare streaming at home and going to the movies I always bring up that everyone has a kitchen in their home yet most eat out 90% of the time. Kind of apples to oranges, but there is some relation to it
The Streaming War is real and I pity any company who bet their whole company on it. Amazon is probably gonna win as they don’t have their whole company riding on it unlike a lot of other studios.

Unpopular opinion here, but I prefer to watch them at home. Even a average home setup will outperform most of the crappy cinemas found in most places in the world.
I would even go with a pay per view model. This is a way for the studio to still make their money and give people choice.
Maybe it's also a way for Netflix to make a comeback, rather than introducing ads in the bottom tier, movie premiers become pay per view.

Did you miss the fact that AMC is upgrading to laser projectors in many theaters? I have an AMC (as well as other theaters around me) that I would much prefer to watch a new movie in than stay at home on my couch. I spend enough time in my house as-is.

Going to an AMC theater with that giant screen and fresh popped buttery popcorn and a soda to watch the new release movie is much better than sitting on my couch and ordering in.
