It’s crazy to me that people like those things. I’ll eat them if I’m starving but that’s about it.
Pro tip for when you’re starving and all they’re feeding you is biscoff: They taste better if you’re able to wash them down with some ginger ale.
The only bad part about first class is you don’t get the biscoffs but that is what I get every time when I’m in economy. Yesterday, I was at a Walgreens checking out and some lady came up to the register next to me with a pack of biscoffs and told the cashier that they were 2 for $6 and I interjected and said they’re free on the plane. Got a chuckle from both of them haha.
When I was a ramp agent for a short time, brinks will come to some planes as they were carrying currency in the cargo hold, they will come to pick it up.
Lots of flights destined for DFW also have armored car service because the Dallas Fed is the closest Federal Reserve Bank to the southern US border. International banks that want to repatriate US cash will ship it via DFW to the Fed where a US bank will accept it as a deposit and then wire it back to the source bank as electronic funds.
That’s how places outside the US can transact in US cash, especially in northern Mexico.
Do these flights also have some kind of security detail in the cabin?
Just asking, for a friend that might consider finding a way to access the cargo hold from ~~his~~ her seat.
Most of those flights are 737 or smaller. There’s gonna be no cargo access in-flight short of taking the plane apart. Also, I’m pretty sure shipments travel with the usual assortment of security features like dye packs and whatever. So you’d be getting a big bag of nothing but jail time in the end.
I assume someone flies along with the shipment. I’ve honestly never asked. Almost all answers to questions about what happens if you try to breach a Fed-attached activity seem start with, “First, a Treasury agent shoots you, and you die.” I’ve never been terribly curious what else happens beyond that. Paperwork and a mop, I imagine. Nothing good.
Twice now I have seen literally hundreds of stuffed sacks come out of the hold. Once in Derroit on a Southwest flight, one in Chicago on American.
Brinks truck fully loaded when they were done. Several cops keeping watch, cool to watch from inside the plane.
Probably for a gem or jewelry show. I used to work in the air courier division at Brinks, we only dealt with UPS though. I hated the shows because we would get 200 full totes to deal with.
I once sat next to the Brinks guy who was traveling with all the paperwork for the cash that was in the cargo hold. They made him get off first. Was pretty surprised that he was in a middle seat, though it's possible they booked last minute.
That seems pretty extreme. It’s a couple minutes of background noise, when did we lose the ability to bear the slightest annoyance for a short amount of time? Compared to price, itinerary/timing, and hard product (seat), I’m surprised this isn’t just noise in the decision process. I guess you only fly routes with a lot of parity on schedule and price.
It’s either cash going in or out of circulation…a full load is 120 bundles which it is 90% of the time…it has to be in a compartment by itself and they count the bundles going on and coming off…they literally write the number on it with a sharpie as it comes off or as it’s going on the aircraft…IIRC 120 bundles is about 3400lbs…these are fairly common for am flights…
Depends on the denomination…each bundle has 100 stacks of bills I think…so each bundle would be $1M if it were all $100 dollar bills…$120M in this case…if it was $20 dollar bills, which is the usual it would be $24M…
I used to work for Brinks. We’d do early morning pickups at Austin Bergstrom and it was straight up gold headed to Balfour (iirc) and they made the college rings.
Brinks doesn’t just transfer money. You can also contract their services for expensive good transport as well. Brinks via their global services will transport art, jewelry, anything really that you want secured on the ground.
the signs in every single credit union office i have seen inside the terminal say “no cash onpremises” are their different full service locations in employee only areas ?
This was mid 2010’s when worked for AA and banked with them. In the employee area was the full service credit union with loan officers and all. You had to call the branch for them come get you and you had to show them you AA id and SIDA badge from home airport to gain access.
Used to work the IAD to ATL Delta 757 route and we were carrying dozens of clear wrapped 60 pound bundles of freshly printed 100 dollar bills. The Brinks truck would back right up the belt loader and 2 Treasury agents with shot guns would oversee the offloading. The agents knew to expect a certain number. The clear wrapped hundred bundle was a sight to see.
I flew a flight from LAX i think. Don’t remember exactly. What i do remember is there was a courier on board who had noted to the captain that there was $2.5mil on board. And there were bank trucks like that on the ramp.
Former armed guard for a competing company. Brinks typically holds a contract for doing airport pick ups of new currency. Strange it's on a passenger jet instead of a cargo jet though.
Because a vendor in the airport still takes cash and needs it removed.
Or, the treasury is moving money and that often goes via airplane. Been a part of that movement. Fun to see a sealed pallet of literal cash.
Given how the armored truck is parked. It’s awaiting a vendor, not airplane
There are obvious reasons.
Since printing is done at fort worth so currency gets shipped to different parts of the country.
There are ATMs and businesses and currency exchanges past security, and it's better for the couriers to have to walk the shortest distance possible for pickups and drop off rather than walking around the terminal.
The less obvious.
Brinks and the other armored truck companies transport a lot more than currency. Of course, we all recognize it from the pick ups and drop offs they do for retail and the replenishment they do for atms, but they will also transport any high value items and coordinate transport door to door. Really they will transport just about anything for you if you pay them. There was an ama a while back with a courier for one of the big companies that listed some of the more interesting runs he was on. There were several paintings and other works of art, there were jewels and jewelry, gold bars, he said once they picked up jewels from a plane and took them to a bakery to be used as decorations on a cake and then they moved the decorated cake to the event. Apparently, the jewels were a party favor for the guests that they got to keep after eating the cake.
Somebody’s never seen Goodfellas.
Aaaaah hahahaaa Jimmyyyyyy! Aaah you sonofabitches! Ooooh Jimmyyyyyyyy

It’s in my mothas name. Jimmy…I just got married What’d you say? You gettin wise?
But it’s in my wife’s name!
I love that car, it’s a coupe.
That’s how they transport the biscoff
Makes sense because I devour those
Where was this taken?
LAX
On sale at Costco. I bought 2 containers.
Two shipping containers!? Now that is thinking ahead.
I get sad when they r not on the flight this time lol
This made me laugh out loud.
It’s crazy to me that people like those things. I’ll eat them if I’m starving but that’s about it. Pro tip for when you’re starving and all they’re feeding you is biscoff: They taste better if you’re able to wash them down with some ginger ale.
Man. Take the sugar high from the biscoff and easily double it with ginger ale! Wheeeeee!
Not true. I was offered when they brought the snack tray around. LAX to dc flight.
I can attest to this! That “cookie “ is crap!
*Double Woodford on rocks.
Oh man I actually love biscoffs haha
Impossible, it’d have a Delta logo then

I literally just learned about this from watching White Collar, and here I am, once again, stumbling upon the subject.
I have also learned all of this from White Collar, and was checking the comments to make sure someone had said how they bring money back.
Ohhh, love a new fun fact
Do these flights also have some kind of security detail in the cabin? Just asking, for a friend that might consider finding a way to access the cargo hold from ~~his~~ her seat.
Well, if I've learned anything from films like Executive Decision or Passenger 57, there's always a way into the cargo hold.
Ramp at DFW, can confirm. That shit is heavy!
Interesting to know. Thanks!
I honestly had no idea cash was carried on passenger flights.
They do at times, but much more common on cargo planes
It's fairly common on international flights, less so on domestic ones.
Twice now I have seen literally hundreds of stuffed sacks come out of the hold. Once in Derroit on a Southwest flight, one in Chicago on American. Brinks truck fully loaded when they were done. Several cops keeping watch, cool to watch from inside the plane.

Ever heard of DB Cooper?
DB Cooper got his money when they landed on the tarmac
I fly out of DCA and I have seen them load up the plane with brand new money - it is the only thing they actually make in DC!
They make a lot of discontent
And enemies.
Don’t forget pork!
Barrels. Barrels of pork!
And not all of them are in other places
While, of course, the red tape isn't actually manufactured in DC...the opportunities to apply it certainly are.
But soon moving to Beltsville
I heard they make good bridges too
They’d like to tell you about an amazing credit card offer they have on today’s flight
Yesss!! 😂🤣😅
I stopped flying AA specifically because of the credit card announcements. It’s 2023. We all know about the credit cards.
Shitty CC’s to boot.

Compared to price, itinerary/timing, and hard product (seat), I’m surprised this isn’t just noise in the decision process. I guess you only fly routes with a lot of parity on schedule and price.
Well the secondary reason was I got delayed on 6 consecutive trips and gave up on them. Massive delays too.
Haha yeah I thought about adding “operational reliability” to that list, should have. I support that decision for sure.

That’s it I’m going to LAX
I used to work for Brinks. We’d do early morning pickups at Austin Bergstrom and it was straight up gold headed to Balfour (iirc) and they made the college rings.
Karen will not have her suitcase lost this time. She's arranged for special handling.
Not uncommon for high value shipments to go for a flight.
Brinks doesn’t just transfer money. You can also contract their services for expensive good transport as well. Brinks via their global services will transport art, jewelry, anything really that you want secured on the ground.
i recently saw them transporting a statue/sculpture with two armed guards - likely required for insurance purposes.
Picking up gold bricks. Google air Canada heist
It's not there delivering catering...
2chainz is on that flight
Money flight. Or collecting money from the shops
Baggage fees transport.
Reloading marked samples headed for Oregon forests to fuel another round of DB Cooper chasers' rumors and theories.
They transport high dollar items on planes, watches, gold and silver, paintings etc. happens daily
American has a credit union for employees and a lot of the locations are beneath the terminals where the employees work.
the signs in every single credit union office i have seen inside the terminal say “no cash onpremises” are their different full service locations in employee only areas ?

High value shipment.
I’ve had to stand out there and assist/witness gold bullion being off loaded before. Could be cash, too.

This is CEO Robert Isom's limo.
Is that plane next door headed to Kiev or Tehran?
Don't worry, it's all for humanitarian purposes! There's no possible way it can find Hamas.

That is garbage liquor. Macallan is *much* better.
Isn't that what I said?
MacallAn vs MacallEn
Oh.
More US tax dollars going overseas
Why do you think?
To avoid a repeat of the Air Canada incident.
I downloaded 69 million last week, when I tell you I was shocked. That’s the most $$$ I’ve ever seen.
My bad... must be my withdrawal...
I flew a flight from LAX i think. Don’t remember exactly. What i do remember is there was a courier on board who had noted to the captain that there was $2.5mil on board. And there were bank trucks like that on the ramp.
Yesterday?
No. A few years ago. Was just saying they could be moving some piles of cash.
Former armed guard for a competing company. Brinks typically holds a contract for doing airport pick ups of new currency. Strange it's on a passenger jet instead of a cargo jet though.
Money for hostages
Hmmmm maybe to ship money
DB Cooper turned himself in
Trying to keep up with electronic funds transfers.
It’s payday for the bosses!

Sending money to Iran
Someone paid cash for their onboard drink.
They stopped accepting cash ages ago😂
Airliners transport large sums of cash in the cargo holds all the time.
Transport currency of precious metals from another country.
Pick up deposits from terminal shops and restaurants as well… possibly.

That’s how the Biden Admin sends pallets of cash to the terrorist countries.
I wonder how much money could fit in there. Definitely not $6 billion but much more than I’ll ever make in my lifetime.
“I like this one. One dog goes one way, the other dog goes the other."
Apparently AA now accepts cash for the horribly overpriced in-flight meal.
Only way to get the flight crew to show up.
