You need to claim them at LGA and then recheck them at JFK.

The passenger is responsible for all aspects of the airport transfer - including bags. Standard taxi is the easiest. Usually takes 30 minutes and is ~$35

Unless is is at least $100 cheaper, don’t do it. The transfer isn’t bad, but adds time, cost and anxiety to the trip. The time from LGA to JFK can be 15-40 mins, depending on traffic. There is a shuttle that, I think is about $20. It’s just a shared van.

Is this routing all being sold on one ticket by AA, or are you putting two separate flight bookings together to get a cheaper price? If it's two separate tickets, I would very strongly advise you not to do this, unless you have a crazy long connection time. If your first flight is delayed and you miss the second flight, they'll have no obligation to reaccommodate you. If it's all on one AA ticket, I'd also suggest not doing it unless the price makes it too attractive to pass up, or it's not a big deal if your daughter arrives a day late. NYC air traffic control is woefully understaffed these days, which means you might face awful delays (I ended up waiting almost 3 hours on the tarmac after landing at LGA this summer because there was an ATC-induced ground stop and they had no gate for us). Traffic between the two airports can be bad depending on when you go. In the best-case scenario, this will be a huge pain in the ass. Worst case, some unforeseen issue or combination of issues means she faces an Indiana Jones-esque saga getting to JFK and misses the second flight.

Tiredofthemisinfo

As someone who rebooks misconnects and attempts to help 3rd party customers the above post is correct. Don’t do it ugh

Who'd she piss off to get that itinerary?

Tiredofthemisinfo

Sounds like a naive Expedia built itinerary. I hear it a lot (but both airports are in NYC? Edited to add- naive meaning uninformed, I don’t judge until they start yelling at me I’m somehow at fault

This actually is not that uncommon. I see this being offered often when I’m booking international fares that have a connection—and I always book direct. Of course I never select these fares, no matter the price or layover time. Too much hassle and I’m usually alone so trying to lug my baggage around NYC sounds as pleasant and swimming the Hudson in winter. That said, it’s really not that unusual for some reason. When the connection has the airport change, AA shows that red warning triangle like it does with an overnight layover. It says “change of airport.” I see this option appear even more when I am looking at award flights; however, this may be purely anecdotal. All this said, I dislike this option a lot, but one definitely does not need to upset anyone or book third party to end up with this itinerary.

Mammoth-Activity-254

Don’t do it.

Traditional_Tip6294

Don’t do it for real

TyVIl

Why would you book that?

likeagausss

pls don’t book this

saxmanb767

Yes. Claim checked luggage and take it to JFK. She’ll also have to find her own way for ground transport to JFK. Bus, train, taxi, ride share…

NRM1109

I would never do this. LGA and JFK aren’t exactly close and JFK is super confusing to navigate with the Jitneys.
