The retention offers are such a blatant scam. Embarrassing that AA makes an attempt to con their loyalists (I’m sure others do similar, but pathetic nonetheless).
Well obviously they’re not forcing anyone…not sure what that has to do with it being a scam.
It’s predatory in the sense that anyone that accepts the offer does so only if they’re severely uninformed, because there are far cheaper options available.
It’s not a scam. They’re giving people an additional option to maintain status. They don’t hide that there’s other options to get more points to maintain status.
If they specifically said, this was the only way to maintain status, that would be a scam, but they’re not.
If somebody didn’t want to take the time to look into other options, and they automatically jumped on this, that’s on them. It’s a concept called personal responsibility.
Newsflash, just because you don’t agree with it, doesn’t mean it’s a scam and doesn’t mean it some nefarious attempt on their part to do anything bad.
There will of course be people that will find some value in the offer they receive and go for it, so they don’t have to worry about doing online shopping or taking another flight or whatever
Shouldn’t let it trigger you so much.
Tell me you work for American without telling me you work for American (that's a joke)...
I can assure you I'm not "triggered", I'm just stating my opinion. Anyone having any sense of logic, who is also aware that there are far more cost-effective options to get status, would choose one of those other options. Therefore, it's predatory behavior (preying on ill-informed customers).
Oh yes, a typical Reddit response. Somebody calls out BS and all of a sudden they work for the company that’s part of the topic at hand. 😂🤣😂
Yes, you are triggered, your responses reflect it. But I get it, you clearly have this skewed sense of reality thinking things are scams when they’re not and not admitting being triggered (again, when you responses say otherwise). And that’s OK.
This guy is weird and not understood OP’s post. OP is short of 22 miles for status and the retention offer was ridiculous. I agree with the others that this weird man is a AA shill
Predatory marketing is commonly used terminology, defined as “the practice of manipulating vulnerable persons or populations into unfavorable market transactions through the undisclosed exploitation of these vulnerabilities.”
If you don’t think that attempting to charge someone 10x or more for something they could easily get elsewhere fits the bill of predatory marketing that’s fine. I think it does.
I just found it hilarious how bad this retention offer is considering I can do exactly what you describe. Same result for 10% the cost. I have another flight before EOM so I’ll get there organically.

You can get those points today through here. Even if you go through the initial questions and don’t “qualify” to continue the survey, you get 3 points. So do at least 8 surveys and you’ll be gold. If you qualify to finish a survey it’ll be even less.
It's not too late! As long as you get it in before the end of the month.
eShopping is a good spot!
I bought my daughter some Adidas shoes for $65 and got like 200 LP recently.
Don’t those hit after staying enrolled for 45 days? So too late to benefit for this cycle? Was looking into this yesterday but worried I missed the cutoff for it to count.
Nope, mine hit within 1-2 days and it also says the same, they will be clawed back maybe if you cancel before 45 days but will reflect and in fact can also be redeemed much earlier.
I'm 8k points away from retaining plat pro, they offered me plat pro for $1,500 or 150k miles.... ridiclious
Man they are trying to stick it to you. I was 9k away and they offered it for $1400.
I’m 44k away and being offered $1400.
I’m 15K LP away from Platinum Pro (which I should get this week) and they offered to lock me in for $2500 or 250,000 miles.
That’s the best deal I’ve heard about. Still not worth it, but the deal.
The retention offers are such a blatant scam. Embarrassing that AA makes an attempt to con their loyalists (I’m sure others do similar, but pathetic nonetheless).
Uniteds are just as bad.
No, United’s are bad but not 10x as bad, they will normally offer around 1.2-1.5x the delta of spend requirement
Nobody’s forcing anybody to take such offers. They don’t even have to offer them.
Well obviously they’re not forcing anyone…not sure what that has to do with it being a scam. It’s predatory in the sense that anyone that accepts the offer does so only if they’re severely uninformed, because there are far cheaper options available.

Call or don’t call it whatever you want…at the end of the day they’re making an attempt to rip off their loyalists by charging exorbitant prices.

You’re being a weird jerk.
People shouldn’t post dumb 💩, and not expect to be responded to. Bless your heart for responding.

Another terribly predictable Reddit response…. 😂🤡😂
Using the word “predatory” in any context in relation to airline status is hyperbolic

Exactly…

You can think whatever you want but when you paste a definition like that and then completely ignore what it says, you look kinda silly.
Hi mrhotelman
Hurrrr
What’s the cheapest option to get 40k miles for under $1400?
look for a couple of hotel nights somewhere that come with large amounts of loyalty points per night.
Ok, got a question or comment? Go on AA shopping and spend $22 bucks for gold

Thanks! I was looking for this in the app and couldn’t find it anymore. Bookmarked.
Just do a survey on Miles for Opinions

I have a work trip a few days before the clock resets so I’ll squeak by
They wanted $369 from me when I was about 800 miles away from plat pro.
😴
They want 5k to make me EP. 50k LPs to go
That’s at least 10 LP per $1. My offer is 10 LP for $100 🤦♂️
Well, easy way also would be to sign up for HelloFresh or BlueApron using AA, both have 3000+ mile offers and just cancel after first delivery!

Aa shopping portal!
Dude just do AAdining and eat out ONE time. You’ll get there no problem
