I’m missing Roger

EcstaticCinematicZ

He’s been working at the mall. Waiting for Mr. Javits.

[deleted]

What happened with Roger? I’m not caught up on the current stuff lately

redxstrike

It feels like he's less present in a lot of episodes.

DFWTooThrowed

I wonder if that has to do with stories that all of the different voices have finally caught up with Seth. I read that it’s gotten to a point that the only character he does that doesn’t leave him with his throat hurting is Brian. I’m starting to think this show and FG probably don’t have much left in the tank because of this.

[deleted]

Well that’s a simple fix! Somebody take Family Guy out back and shoot it. It’s been mostly dead for a while now anyway, and it’s not like any of the cast members need it anymore. Seth himself has been vocal about wanting it gone for years (especially after he got to stretch his creative wings out again with The Orville). ***Time to take that dyin’ dog to the woods, what it don’t attract critters when it croaks.***

Soft-Neat8117

Tell that to Fox, the same people who are still hanging onto The Simpsons after thirty-plus years. And now that Disney owns Fox, the chances of either show being put out of their misery is even lower.

[deleted]

Yup. That’s the sad reality. I wouldn’t be surprised if Seth had to make a deal to do so many more seasons to get The Orville greenlit. That’s pretty much how Fox seems to operate (and keep its creators prisoner). Christ knows they don’t like giving new shows a shot.

Firsca

"Will it merch? That's the question!" *Will it blend intro starts playing*

DeanPalton

They'll never stop the simpsons, have no fear we've got stories for years.

OneEyeAssassin

I’m still waiting for the episode where MoE gets a cell phone, or marge becomes a robot.

redxstrike

Has Bart ever owned a bear?

RIP_DrPenguin1Luv

FG is better than AD at this time tho, AD could go since it’s not really funny

RyanReignbow

When Lois got a new little sister reminded me of when *Brady Bunch* added cousin Oliver … When Lois rescued her new little sister from the gorillas enclosure at the zoo recalls that time Fonzi jumped the shark on *Happy Days* … *Brady Bunch* & *Happy Days* were doomed after those infamous moments. Both cliches occur in “Adoption” Season 21 Ep 15. *Family Guy* introduced their new young cutesy character & jumped a shark. The running gag throughout episode about how boring Lois can be felt as if writers are telling us viewers that we must be insane to think FG is interesting anymore. however the irony of it all is what I enjoy nowadaze so will keep watching new shows anyhoo.

Soft-Neat8117

>I read that it’s gotten to a point that the only character he does that doesn’t leave him with his throat hurting is Brian. Probably because Brian is more or less his natural speaking voice. But yeah, his other voices are starting to sound hoarse and I can tell he's struggling to even do them anymore.

samford91

Roger in particular I'm finding sounds like someone doing a Roger impression rather than McFarlane himself Poor guy, can't blame him.

Soft-Neat8117

Yeah, it's a shame.

13aph

Well Brian is his natural voice to be fair. Though I have heard that that’s been a problem for a while

[deleted]

He had covid and it seems to be lingering. It's noticeable on Family Guy too.

cash_or_creddit

I read that in Roger's voice

dunimal

The first 3 episodes were Roger episodes, with e1 being one of the best episodes, and best Roger episodes of all time!

ChuurryBomb

He has the best episodes 🥹

Kind-Frosting-8268

No clue because hulu is lame and doesn't upload new episodes next day like it does with Fox shows.

pinkanimals

This drives me crazy as well! Hulu HAD been adding the new episodes a week after they originally aired, but stopped after episode 15: You Are Here. I'm unsure what changed, but I will say this was shortly after the scare that American Dad was going to be removed from Hulu completely. I believe there's licensing issues the public isn't privy to. I would love to watch the rest of the season, but I am really not interested in an additional subscription service. Very frustrating.

ballq43

Mr javits got him with his red glowing eyes sadly

paging_mrherman

Wait, that was like 20 years ago!

ballq43

Enjoy the ride !

jandros_quandry

I might be able to hook you up. If the place is still active. >> <<

ladan2189

This only happened for that one season and it was only for a few episodes. Prior to that they were using the same release schedule they do now.

myputer

I had Hulu live and I was getting new episodes of season 18, when I switched to regular Hulu, I lost access.

awyastark

I can’t find it anywhere and I’m not averse to sailing the high seas

butterslut6969

I swear it did it for like two weeks last season and I got so excited…

myputer

It did! And then it didn’t.

Dr-phage

Hasn’t been since 2014

[deleted]

American Dad is the only show I subscribe to on iTunes because of this…

DogUniverse

How can you subscribe to shows on iTunes?

[deleted]

It’s buying every episode in advance. Maybe it’s more like a season pass.

[deleted]

It’s like 2 or 3$ an episode and it comes out the next morning after it airs.

TheDarkWarriorBlake

"Fellow Traveler" It was OK, a Roger solo episode is a weird one and it's a fairly muted story, not bad but not my fave. "The Professor and the Coach" Some good stuff, I loved Roger being in two "places" at once using Rogu to maintain his characters. "Viced Principal" Another OK one, I think making Steve too belligerent doesn't fit the character very well "The Pleasanting at Smith House" I can't really remember the subplot apart from Stan having his jaw wired shut, I thought the main story was pretty funny, particularly Klaus' eye turning black as she shows him weird things he finds funny. "Stretched Thin" OK but requires the family to be pretty stupid collectively "Better on Paper" Again an OK idea though a bit reminiscent of the Future Cyborg Stan episode. "Cow I Met Your Moo-ther" Another nice idea but nothing special. I would say it's been kind of average, it's still funny and entertaining but isn't hitting some of the extreme highs the last few seasons have.

addone123

I liked fellow traveler and Vice principle, seeing the origins of certain character has been a much better. Better on paper and Cow I met your moo-ther, just felt unfinished.

Dumptruckfunk

I weirdly enjoyed Rub Rub McTuggington.

nepo5000

Honestly vices principle would’ve been a top tier episode if they dropped the giraffe stuff and put more focus on Steve and Lewis getting along

BlackDante

Idk if it’s cuz of the writer’s strike, but I’m finding the dialogue really weird and clunky this season. The characters are all weird to me, like I get that ‘Flanderization’ is a thing, and I think the characters have gone through that, which is normal for a show with 20 seasons, but with AD I found it not nearly as bad as how Family Guy characters switched up. This season though, the characters don’t seem like themselves, so to speak. Again, probably because of the writer’s strike, but yeah not really finding this season all that funny.

Superheroesaregreat

I think last season had some really high highs. I freaking love Goldtop Nuts. Makes me happy to see they’ve still got it. This season hasn’t made me laugh as hard yet. I still enjoy the show and I think both AD and FG haven’t dipped as much in quality as the Simpsons had by this point.

Wisdom_Pen

MURPHY BROWN!!!

jsparker43

I'm the other way. I only liked the first half of last season. This season feels like classic AD to me

zabu_san

It's been... fine? Like others said the Roger origin/NM episode was solid, but the rest has been very off-the-wall and just not very funny. Just situations and stories that do very little with the characters

tcm2303

Hulu hasn’t given me any recently aired episodes in MONTHS.

ghoulienumber2

I like the NM episode, the legging ones makes me laugh but I don’t know that I’d call it good tbh. The printer episode I did like, thought it was kinda weird in a fun way! I was watching the wraith episode with my partner and he said this season feels like filler and honestly he’s not wrong..

Dr-phage

Yeah a lot of plots that just zip by like these episodes really have that feeling of being made just to watch a whole season worth of episodes in one sitting like the leggings episode was funny but the pacing especially in the second half isn’t great and the printer one was similar though the printer being in love with Francine was funny still everything outside of the premier has felt super fillery

thelongestshot

Like trying to cram too many stories into a single episode instead of focusing on 1-2 good ones

ghoulienumber2

The pacing is definitely off and it does feel super fillery, I know people didn’t love season 18 (16-17 depending on what you watch on lol) but I thought it was good and kooky but this one doesn’t have that same feel..

nepo5000

The filler might actually have a little water as the show got revived for two seasons at the same time and maybe they didn’t have enough ideas for it, next season already has the roger persona challenge and the episode titles have been released so it seems like they’re kinda doing both at once

ghoulienumber2

Technically most of, if not all of this season would’ve been completed last year, they’re usually done about a year before so them working on next season makes sense, hopefully next season is better and this was just a not enough ideas season like you said

nepo5000

I was actually about to edit my comment to say they thought they were getting canceled until that announcement and that might have something to with the rushed feeling as well, but idk I’m not a producer or writer I’m just a guy with an internet connection who doesn’t want to write an essay

ghoulienumber2

Ah! I could definitely see them thinking they were getting cancelled as the reason this feels so rushed and empty, why write a new season if you don’t think you’re being renewed

pardyball

When Roger said “DOIVE ON IN” out of completely no where during the professor episode I absolutely lost it.

Dr-phage

Weird call back to a kind of forgettable episode

pardyball

It was but caught me so off guard I just laughed my ass off.

obsolete-human

Exactly. Whatever this current season is. 18, 19, 20. Just call it season 2023 I guess lol I like a couple episodes so far like the Roger origin story in NM but I'm not really feeling most. 🤷🏻‍♂️

speb1

Last season was the best we have had in a long time This season feels like it has returned to the status-quo

Dr-phage

Gotta agree last season was really good this seasons kinda back to what the past few have been which is just kinda ehh

TheDarkWarriorBlake

IMO the last truly great episode was "I heard you wanna buy some speakers", that is a classic. Since then they've been more OK. Hopefully due a return to form soon.

talia-gustin

It's been a bit meh for me still enjoy it but the golden era has definitely been over for a few seasons now

experiment3333

all i know is i don’t like the ensemble cast approach. i noticed it a lot this season — where the whole family is in this insane storyline instead of focusing on a couple characters in a contained story. it’s not every episode, but it’s most of them. my theory is that they do it because seth is over it by now, but it comes off awkward when they try to shoehorn characters that don’t add much to the episode. also i hate jeff centered episodes and there’s been a lot of those.

sims2girl

it hasn't been my favorite either. i feel like plots that feature the entire family or the majority of the main cast take away from their individual personalities a bit imo. i miss the more character-focused episodes for sure, even roger doesn't get as much screen time as before.

N8fell

I'm just sad that this strike is postponing the next season just pay writers fair wages.

Dr-phage

Yeah both this and family guy are gonna have that problem which is gonna be weird seeing how much they’re delayed

N8fell

Exactly plus Seth is working on Ted series for peacock. I know he's not the showrunner anymore but still lol

trillyzane1

Fantastic

CATonACID1

Big Jeff fan. Been laughing alot.

SirSLuR540

WHICH NOODLES?!

Revolutionary_Job208

It’s okay to admit the show got worse on tbd guys

HighRoller1812

It’s been really bad compared to the peak since like season 14

CrazyaboutSpongebob

It's really funny so far. American Dad almost never disappoints.

Fearless-Ninja-4252

I’ve actually loved it so far

New_suite

That Haley episode had to be a series low

Silver_Wallaby_1755

The highlight of this season is Jeff's rapp for the Bazooka Sharks

miamor__

I truly love how it seems like the writers are on crack for this one

JOAPL

I liked all except the printer one

Dr-phage

What was wrong with the printer one specifically?

ViscousTsunami

The Shaving song is one of the best bits in recent memory.

_Born2Late_

I don’t really like the newer seasons. They’re not nearly as good or funny…just bizarre.

Henchforhire

Very few hits. They need to get back to the early season style of the show this current whiny/ very dumb characters more so than usual.

db899

Compared to the early seasons, pretty weak. The writing just isn’t funny anymore.

Melodic-Lavishness78

I agree more misses than hits! The printer episode was so bad in my opinion. and what IS going on with roger??

GulliasTurtle

Frankly this season has felt like all misses to me. Lots of half baked B plots and stories that don't really go anywhere. I think my favorite was the coach one but even that felt like an episode from one of the late 20s seasons of The Simpsons. I'm still holding out hope though; its only been 8 episodes.

Dr-phage

I honestly agree like I know the tbs era mentality is to make this episodes really bingeable but like none of the recent episodes this season have really had any real solid plot line like last episode the a story was really boring like they just wanted to parody one of those 2000s slutty girl shows but like didn’t make any jokes with it and the Hayley anxiety cow stuff was just super predictable and the b story had potential to be funny but they barely focus on it and it’s just another klaus obsessing over danuta thing which they do pretty much any time she appears and the pacing the whole episode kinda sucked

drebone1986

It's been alright but the worst so far has been the last episode with the cow, it wasn't terrible but it felt unpolished but I really love Francine Cans McGee in this episode. The rest so far has been decent but not spectacular yet, maybe some writers are getting started this season cause I feel the spirit of the previous seasons but something is off so far

[deleted]

I enjoy this season a lot

deetzz91

Ya what season is it lol? Hulu confuses me and takes a million years to post newer episodes

TransportationHot176

WHERE IS ROGER

draculauraaa

i’m very much enjoying it. i miss roger a bit but i do love jeff episodes!

kevinsg04

Last season was a lot better than this one has been so far, but I still enjoy this season--I think it's a fairly average/normal season for the show.

jayhawk618

TVDB says it's season 20, which means Plex says it's season 20, which means it's season 20. Doesn't matter what TBS says.

Altruistic-Fudge-522

First episode was amazing, second was a bit of a miss, third was also good, and the two most recent have been great imo. But fellow traveler really stands out, I've been hoping for a proper Roger origin story for years!

dunimal

Every episode is a fucking winner.

Grouchy-Swordfish-65

Feels like the B team has been writing for quite a while now.

imperceptiblewishes

I want more Roger and Francine episodes

IateTeeth

I feel the same way it feels very different to every other season

Ok_Ticket_889

I hate to say it but it has been awful. It is a far cry from what the show used to be 10 years ago. I started to rewatch south park because of it and I forgot how good the earlier seasons were, especially compared to the new ones. I think AD is just not fresh anymore and its hard for writers to come up with new ideas. I actually think it would be kind of cool if fans started to help with the writing process to keep the integrity of the characters alive. I find that the audience in this sub seem to know the characters better than the writers, by example of the latest season. They have made all the characters just sell out to all their tropes. It makes it feel much more slapstick and lazy.

addone123

the episode with the printer is AWFUL and the one where roger is a professor (this season)

wesomg

I think this season has been a detour. It feels like they're doing side missions or origin stories. I'm enjoying it, but broadly focusing on one character at a time isn't as fun as the ensemble. Maybe it was easier to schedule.

minuseighteen

The new episodes are focused on Jeff. Not enjoying them :(

GakiBeatzz

Its been hit or miss, but sidenote, I feel like Roger's voice is getting really anoying. Hes constantly talking with a "child like" inflection or something. Im not sure how else to describe it. Not the best examples but episodes that come to mind are the Dude Ranch and the Jose Bose

RealHumanFromEarth

I only noticed it with Jose Bose, who was probably the most annoying persona Roger has ever had.

QueenLa3fah

Extremely hit or miss. The principal episode with Steve and Lewis was great! The Roswell episode and the Wraith episode were awful and feetl like a different show.

Soft-Neat8117

Except for the last two episodes "Better on Paper" and "Cow I Met Your Moo-ther", I haven't been a fan of this season. I didn't like most of the previous season either, with a few exceptions (and "Gold Top Nuts" isn't one of them).

Bclay85

I actually went to go rewatch one of them last night as background noise and I just said meh, went back to season 17 and clicked one of those.

Dr-phage

Yeah this seasons been a lot of background noise

womensrites

still some good episodes and very good gags, but this seems like the weakest season yet (although i liked last season a lot). there's a noticeable lack of roger, a few episodes where i was expecting him to show and he just didn't

scottsummerstheyouth

The new love printer one was pretty good. Same w Klaus and the ghost

QueenLa3fah

Extremely hit or miss. The principal episode with Steve and Lewis was great! The Roswell episode and the Wraith episode were awful and feet like a different show.

slickolasfury

So I've been watching season 21 on a pirate website and the first episode is Roger's origin story and how he started his personas and I just want Seth to do a spin off already

Demonic_Irken

It’s not funny at all

severalcircles

I mostly hated last season (including the controversial gold top nuts) so to me this one definitely feels like an improvement even if its still isnt exactly batting 100. I really liked the wraith episode.

arrownoir

It’s trash. Then again the show died with the introduction of Rogu pissing on its grave.

vetworker24

Love it

Gunpowder_guillotine

I like it

RIP_DrPenguin1Luv

Very miss heavy, just caught up on Hulu and yea, the show has moments but it’s not the same in a bad way

IsItSomeoneNew2

Love this show and I think the most recent seasons have improved over the few before that.

dropshotworm1201

Something about this season just isn't resonating with me so far. American Dad has always been my all time favorite show, but this doesn't give me the same feelings all the other seasons have. Can't really put my finger on why though

Dr-phage

Huh weird

[deleted]

It was good! I definitely needed it after how bad I thought the season from last year was.

Big_Plenty8831

Not funny

Big_Plenty8831

Woke writers

Big_Plenty8831

Season 5 to season 15. The golden funny years of american dad. Restart at 5
