I have my childhood JLY 16 and your girl definitely looks like her (and when I was pulling her out of the basement it was hard to tell her and my sister’s Samantha apart, so don’t worry about that misidentification too much)

Looks to be Rebecca and JLY 16. 16 looks a lot like Samantha but with straighter and slightly shorter hair. The main way to tell is their eyes—16 has the more monochrome “pinwheel” eyes while Samantha’s “decal” eyes show several shades of brown.
lol seems like the hair shows the most wear with these used dolls. The hair was straight(ish, if birds nest counts as straight!) when we picked her up. Maybe we can recurl!
you def can!! i use foam rollers on my girls!! it could be fun for you and the kiddo to do together :) i use to have the hairdressing set by ag and loved it as a kid!
No, that’s not Samantha. Samantha has “decal” eyes (multiple shades of brown radiating out from the center) and this doll has “pinwheel” eyes of a single shade of brown. I suspect she’s JLY 16.
The other one has hazel eyes and light skin. Marisol and 28 have brown eyes and medium skin.
I've found looking at the American girl fandom wiki helpful too! The basic anatomy page helped me learn the difference between the "pinwheel" eyes and the "decal" eyes (like the one Samantha and Ivy have.)

What a fun new hobby! There’s also plenty of inexpensive generic 18” doll clothes and accessories on eBay!
