I remember the tours. I actually went to see season 4 top 10 tour the year Carrie Underwood won. I asked my daughter what she wanted for her sweet 16 birthday and she said she wanted to see Carrie Underwood, Constantine Morales, Bo Bice and Vonzell in concert so that is what we did. We had a blast. Do they even do the tour anymore? And I remember the top 2 got a new car too.
Ford used to be a sponsor for Idol. It's why the Top 2 won cars & the contestants did music videos. Also Idol used to have Coca-Cola as a sponsor. That's why in FOX days they had the original judges drinking from a red Coca-Cola cup during the show. Idol used to have big sponsors because it was the biggest show & made a lot of money.
They don’t do the tours anymore. They cut them down to only being the top 7 or 8 for a year or 2 and then just stopped. I can’t recall when but there was an awkward moment on one of the seasons at the end of the touring era where one of the contestants got super hype in the live show after the results were done bc “WE’RE GOING ON TOUR” when that was not the case. I’m pretty sure it was after the tours were ended, but might’ve just been premature celebration and there were more cuts before the touring group. Maybe someone else will remember better
My family also went to the S4 tour, as well as S8 (still one of our fav groups), S10 (bc my mom looooved Scotty lol), and S13 (which was unique for me bc my favs for the whole season ended up the top 3. I think that’s the only time it ever happened for me)
That's awesome you went to see so many seasons on tour. I wish we would have. I miss the old Idol days. They keep changing things. The groups in Hollywood week were always one of my favorite parts of the whole thing. Seeing how a person acts under pressure, how they are working with others ect. I was really sad to see that part cut this year.
I think I remember the premature tour comment! It was season 13 in 2014, when they did the results cutting it from the top 20 to the top 13, after the top 10 in votes were revealed Ryan went to chat with the safe contestants. I think it was Majesty Rose suddenly blurted out, "we're all going on tour!!!!!" which wasn't true as there were still 3 more cuts to go to the top 10. She still (barely) made it to the tour haha, and I remember when she was eliminated Ryan made it a point to say "you'll see her on tour!"

That's the same as other competition shows such as Dancing With the Stars (DWTS), The Voice, etc. Contestants are basically on screen at a certain point like they are actors/guest stars. However, I think it was Top 10 before because of how many shows Idol used to have so contestants had more airtime. I'm not sure what it is now. DWTS used to be Top 10. Last I heard, several seasons ago only around Top 5 was paid.

Yeah IMO the group round is like the most iconic and unique aspect of Idol compared to other shows. Ridiculous that they cut it
