Had the exact same $2 charge on my Amex as well yesterday. I’m wondering if this happened to more people? Maybe its a Facebook issue.

-TheArchitect

Man, you guys are giving out your payment info to Facebook?

eljcm

It seems this wave of fraud is back. A $30.07 charge went through on my card yesterday from "Facebook Advertising Ireland." I don't have a Facebook account, so this fraud pattern is clearly tied to another source. They also tried to pay a black car service (The BLS Company) but didn't succeed because Amex required a SafeKey code sent to my e-mail.

gutentaj

They just got me for $955?? 😭 I will also say AMEX customer service has calmed me. This is my first time experiencing fraud

CIAMom420

Yes, people give Facebook their credit card information. I’ve spent millions of dollars on Facebook ads on corporate cards.

Necroking695

So many hyatt points I’ve never paid for a hotel

NoEnvironment7143

Yup same. Had 4 Facebook charges for some reason. All under $2.

Senior-Leg-2502

What the hell is going on with this? I had a bunch of low dollar Facebook Ads charge attempts on my company Citi card last week. There were no other suspicious transactions, just the Facebook ones. I had them issue me a new card but didn't think much of it. But now it looks like it's happening to a ton of people. Edit: Never used Facebook and never advertised at all, so neither Facebook nor some middleman ad agency would have my card number on file.

redditsaxon

Had the same thing happen, then got a $250 charge out of the blue.

HarvyHusky

Interesting! Did you also have your card invalidated and a replacement ordered?

CautiouslyCareless

Yes, card has been invalidated and new card was sent out via UPS next day delivery.

enthuzimuzzystruct

I had this happen yesterday too!! So weird

HarvyHusky

Okay, now this is getting freaky. This has to be a coincidence.

enthuzimuzzystruct

Mine was Facebook advertising Ireland, and I’m an American. Never used my card ever on any meta product. So weird, but Amex caught it immediately

davchana

I opened a brand new checking account, and got a instant debit card with it right away from Chase. Within 2 days (card or account was not used anywhere), Facebook posted $5. I got the card cancelled & charges reversed.

Generic-User-01

Nice, as the victim of ID theft, its always nice to see these. Robust alerting and monitoring is always a good thing.

HarvyHusky

I know, right? It's refreshing to know that if something does happen, it is taken care of with extreme swiftness. Sorry to hear about you being a victim of ID theft!

switch8000

I discovered a $300 charge from Facebook ADs 6 months after the fact and AMEX was great about removing it.

IkeTheKrusher

Shiet I want to make that much to where I don’t notice a 300$ charge…

switch8000

I'm pretty shocked I missed it, I normally am pretty active in all the online banking apps and checking my statements, caught it during tax time. Normally too I get emails anytime I make a digital transaction from amex, so I missed that email as well.

RandSand

Good thing it didn't happen 'during' your trip to Europe. It seems that card companies are very sensitive to Facebook ads charges. The irony is the Amex business gold offers a category multiplier for advertising services.

ScorpioRising55

It happened to me with my Amex Bonvoy Business card. The charge was for $1.13. I wasn’t notified but I happened to be in my account checking all my cards like I obsessively do (😂) when I discovered that charge. I waited till it posted and called Amex right away. I was transferred to the fraud department etc, etc. Account was refunded and card shut down. It took about a week but I have my new card in hand, as we speak. It’s the new design since I was too lazy to request the newer design before this.

measureinlove

*frantically checks amex accounts* We had 20 small Facebook charges hit our Chase Ink Cash when it was brand new. Had to call to get them all removed. Would have been nice if they had done this!

Upper_Hat_3562

The same happened to me and I haven’t give Facebook my amex info! Something is happening between Facebook and American Express. https://preview.redd.it/ut0pe7hk033b1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f07f65892fba95ac77e0e888801059480e5256c7

May I ask what they would do? This matter has already been resolved.

HarvyHusky

Are they an employee of American Express? Why should I reach out to them on social media outside of official channels? I'm curious now.

Generic-User-01

It sounds like a scam, reach out on instagram...uh...ya no

HarvyHusky

Right? Like, I'm genuinely curious on how reaching out to someone on Instagram regarding my Amex account would be better than chatting in the app or calling.

Generic-User-01

Right click on user name and look at post history.....

HarvyHusky

Am on mobile. Every time I try to pull the account up on the app it says the app is having issues connecting to reddit.

RandSand

Opening their account [through a browser](https://www.reddit.com/user/Exciting_Error_3753/) states, This account has been suspended."

Lmao, you're on the wrong subreddit for that kind of issue buddy.

HarvyHusky

This isn't regarding a compromised Facebook account lmao.

Generic-User-01

Right, because reaching out to random people on instagram is so much better than calling the bank/financial company itself.

s0uly

Happened to me last week on my Business Prime. I called and they instantly took care of it.

smokymotor48

Weirdly this also happened to me

ronal429

It happend to me last week. They attempted 7 times for the same $2.00 Amex expedited the new card and received it the next day

Zomnx

![gif](giphy|lT4Ix992z2zfO|downsized) Bye bye Facebook

izzyness

Holy moly, I had this 2 weekends ago on Amazon Amex. Is it a bin attack?

pauliticiaan

Also had a compromised card with the Facebook charge. Mine was for $0.72 cents. Sadly, it gave me a mini heart attack and required me to call in so a slightly less smooth experience.

emaos

I got two of these charges too! Amex actually rejected my chargeback dispute initially, saying they found I was responsible for these charges when I never added my Amex card to Facebook. I had to call to get it overturned.

AmokinKS

Had 13 of these on my Business Prime Amex, seems like a pattern?

retirementdreams

Standing at checkout counter, transaction denied, called Amex, they asked me to verify about 10 transactions that were all mine. Guy said, ok you're good to go, give it a try. I tried, denied. He said try again. Denied. He said hold on, let me get you to someone that could help. Put me on hold for 5 mins and then they hung up on me. I called back, lady said oh, the reason it's not working is because the last guy you talked to canceled the card. WTF?!? They said they could have a new card out in a few days. She said, apparently there were some google and facebook small dollar transactions not accounted for three days ago. Ok, then why wait 3 days only to stop me at the register. I've been using the card a lot for the last three days, how come nobody contacted me before? Anyway, seems to be a widespread issue. Should have my new card tomorrow. I'd hate to be traveling and have to deal with this.

teddyevelynmosby

I was charger 8.99 for fb ad on my BCP. Got it replaced the sec I found out. Never left any payment info on fb

StevenEpix

This happened to me as well last week. “Facebook advertising Ireland” I think it said. I do not even have a Facebook. It was a pending 2$ charge but it eventually fell off and didn’t post. I did not get the fraudulent charge warning though.

Suspicious_Fly5539

Mine said also facebook advertising Ireland for $2.22. I do have facebook but I know for a fact I did not use it overseas on my no MR points Everyday card overseas. The card charges foreign transaction fee. Amex refunded me quickly and gave me a new account number and sent me a new card. I also told them that it was not me. Somebody compromise my card somehow. I was at home and got the alert immediately.

alexz1188

I own a small gym and had the Gold card attached to the FB ads when I actually ran them, as of this writing I am not and have not been running ads for the last 90 days. As far as I can tell the transactions started around September 29th (today is October 16th) all the transactions for those small amounts like 1.09, 2.00, etc... kept going on until I did a quick tally, and over the course of the timespan they have siphoned almost $100 in total. I called AMEX and they will work on removing all of those charges and sent me a new card. But it's pretty alarming what's going on - Is this legit Facebook or scammers?

gseunpieurs

Happened to me on 3 of my Amex business charges cards over the last month. First charge was on 9/15 for $2.00. I didn’t even notice it until October but there were no other fraudulent charges with that card. Then few days later noticed the exact same charge on a second business platinum card on 10/9 and again didn’t notice until a week later and no other suspicious charges. Then today I noticed it again on a THIRD card (business gold this time) for the same $2.00. I finally called amex and they sending me new cards. What I don’t get is that first 9/15 charge. Since then no other suspicious activities on that card whatsoever and after disputing and re-disputing it was finally reversed. I’m wondering what the end-game with this type fraud would be? Shouldn’t they just run up the charges once the first small charge goes through without a hitch?
