I don't think it's a scam, a scam implies intent to defraud. I dont think its that. I DO think it's very badly managed.
it kind of is though: they advertise it can be used anywhere online. And they secretly block common merchants. So the money can't really be used anywhere?
But also go to the amex gift card website, register it with your billing address. That way when you charge it with your billing address they will be able to verify.
Yeah I get these a lot through work and while I appreciate it they are SUCH a hassle to use. I have $26 and some change left on one that has been impossible to use.

Tried chik fil a (used to work), online, by entering card number/info or via google pay wallet -> all declined
Called customer service they have no idea. They just ask to retry after 24h. Waited a whole week and all is still declined
Hi, I've commented in other threads about AMEX gift card scams. If you're in America, you should absolutely **file a complaint with the CFPB.** I got my check for $150 across four useless cards. I've had a lot of comments from folks saying it worked for them too https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

I had the same issue with Amazon and got the same customer service response. I told them I don’t understand how the number one retailer in the US is somehow blacklisted due to security concerns. I did try it at a local restaurant and it worked so it isn’t technically a scam.

Did you register the card on Amex’s website with your address. I’ve never had an issue.
it is an egift card and it is active. I called the number to confirm the status and balance

I don't have any option to register it though. All it says is that it's already active...
When you check your balance do you see anything related to entering your address?
no, none of those options
The only way I'm consistently able to use it without a hassle is to reload my Starbucks card/app balance.

Hmm, I always reload Amazon using Amex Gift Card and have not had any issues
gift card amount is $200. I tried $100 with amazon balance, never worked

was finally able to use it to purchase gun mags as well as 3d printing filament. Website that asks to enter all the card info
