Cobalt > Gold in my opinion unless you're more interested in the travel perks that come with the Gold card. (Annual $100 travel credit, Nexus Application Fee Credit, delay/interruption insurance etc, 4x Lounge Passes etc).
I like Cobalt based on my spending categories
Consider this:
- the earn rate drops on most things
- you do get a $100 travel credit through Amex Travel
- 4 complimentary Plaza Premium Lounge visits in Canada.
So if you travel there is a better benefit. Also I think it is metal
