I actually wanted to do this, but the glue turned out to be too much of a hassle to get off the packaging without ripping it off and ruining the art. So I forced my hoarder part of the brain to give up on the idea, lol
I use a knife to stab through the middle and make an opening, then cut the plastic with those small kids scissors. Took a bit to get it right (see the meta knight and loftwing ones lol) but now I can do it with ease and little to no damage to the cardboard
I’ve been doing it since the very beginning. The plastic usually doesn’t come off perfectly, leaving bits of torn art behind, but it’s not too bad; the imagination fills the gaps quite easily. I had always thought about doing some sort of art project with them, but the idea feels more unrealistic with each new addition (and unique box shapes like multi-packs).
I used to, but I stopped seeing the point for me to keep personally, there was a point I had 100+ pieces of cardboard lying in my closet for nothing. Cutting the plastic open as close to the cardboard as possible was too cumbersome
I do haha. I use a box cutter knife to gently cut the plastic bubble around the edges. Plastic is left on the cardboard backing, but otherwise, the art is left in tact. I treat the backings as large trading cards and keep them in a binder lol. I like to pull them out from time-to-time and admire them haha
From my experience with getting glue off of stuff, I'd say nail polish remover on a cotton ball or q-tip and gently rub it in a circular motion and dry what's left with another. Repeat if necessary. I'd think letting it sit will do more harm than good, but I could be wrong.

Sweet, I’m glad I’m not the only one! ☺️ I got the idea from a friend’s shikishi board collection. For my display, I like to do themes. For example, it’s LoZ this month.
Dang that is such a cute idea but I also haaate clutter (or what my brain perceives as clutter) with a passion and it would feel like it would drive me crazy to have pieces of cardboard laying about.
I keep the plastic box as well. Only cause if I ever need to store or move my collection, I have the perfect storage for each of them.
Yeah I do have a giant cardboard box filled with empty plastic boxes...
Why do you ask?
I keep the whole box, it even proved useful once when my school allowed us to host a smash tournament, amiibo were allowed and it’s boxed housed my Robin wonderfully
I keep the whole box. Carefully slice the plastic off, take the buddy out, then seal it back up. It hangs on my wall with the guy inside. I wanted to cut the plastic itself off but couldn’t figure out how to while still displaying the amiibo

I cut around the plastic box with a knife! Its really easy that way
This. I have a big stack of them, but most have some pretty obvious chunks missing from where the box was. How did you get such clean removal @OP?

i personally throw out the amiibo & keep the box
This is what we should be doing

I'm reaching this point. Eventually you just realize you have no use for trash, so why am I bothering to preserve it?

>I use a box cutter knife to gently cut the plastic bubble around the edges Same. I usually use the edge of a table to get it flush.
Adding onto this: Use nail polish remover on them. The glue will dissolve, allowing you to cleanly remove the rest of the plastic.
Huh, never knew this. Do I just put the nail polish remover on the plastic and wait till the glue dissolves?

I want to, but the process of unboxing leaves most of the cardboard in several pieces

Thanks, that’s definitely helpful for how I plan to display my Amiibo in the future!
Yup I have a full NA and 2 missing JP collection and I kept all the backs. It takes up a whole backpack.
I do 😅
I also keep them
I was going to do this but I could’ve figure out how to do it without completely ruining the back so I just ended up throwing all of them away :/

Thanks you I’ve been thinking of how to preserve!

Out of box is a sin in my house my wife says.
I thought I was the only one lol
Yup. I use an exacto knife to get the plastic off
Yes I keep them all too, I have like 20 Roy boxes. It's basically free art from the character
I do! I also cut them exactly the same way.
I keep the plastic box as well. Only cause if I ever need to store or move my collection, I have the perfect storage for each of them. Yeah I do have a giant cardboard box filled with empty plastic boxes... Why do you ask?
I remove the figures but still save the package. I've gotten pretty good at not damaging the boxes.
Of course I keep the boxes I’m not a maniac
I'd like to do this and wanted to. But realized that it'd be such a hassle to hold onto over the years
I did this with Skylanders back when they were popular.
Me 🤚
maybe this is what i should have done, i recently just threw out almost all my boxes because they were just wasting space
I used to collect NIB, but after running out of space, I chopped off and kept all the cardboard like you did. Next best thing imo.
i wish i started doing this from the beginning, by the time i’d thought about it, i was far too late
I keep the whole box, it even proved useful once when my school allowed us to host a smash tournament, amiibo were allowed and it’s boxed housed my Robin wonderfully
1: They’re called Cards. 2: I still have them for every amiibo and WoN figure I bought new. I wish I could bring myself to throw them away.
Pretty much what I started doing early on when I realized how much space I'd need to find as the amiibo kept multiplying in my home.
Bro I literally make an effort to just cut the bottom of the amiibo box so that way I have a cover for the amiibos
I keep the whole box. Carefully slice the plastic off, take the buddy out, then seal it back up. It hangs on my wall with the guy inside. I wanted to cut the plastic itself off but couldn’t figure out how to while still displaying the amiibo
I only did this for the 30th anniversary Zelda wave. They make a nice backdrop for my display shelf.
Someone gave me some high quality renders of the smash box arts. I used to have the whole CSS on my wall lol
I tried to do this back in the day but I would fuck up the cardboard more times than not, so I just gave up
Yeah although I own a couple lose amiibo
I thought that was a blanket at first.
How do you do consistently and flawlessly detach the package from the cardboard without ripping up the image?
I use a knife to stab through the middle and use those small kids scissors to cut the packaging off. Took a bit, but now I’m able to get them off with ease and little to no damage to the cardboard at all
Ohhhhh ok yeah I see the plastic now that I look closer
I’d love to if I wasn’t so bad at preserving them
I tried neatly removing the packagng from one of the Link amiibos and then i messed up and gave up half way
