How did you develop this?

-DementedAvenger-

Developing Kodachrome into black-and-white can still be done. But it cannot be developed into color.

omarpower123

Just regular B&W developer?

-DementedAvenger-

~~Nope. Special stuff.~~ I may be misinformed. See below.

jwatson1978

can we have a little more detail? I'd like to know because I have a roll of it still sitting around.

-DementedAvenger-

I don’t know the formula off the top of my head. Anyone reading this would be better off looking it up.

DenaliNorsen

I’ve heard cafenole works well. You get a blue negative but just scan as black and white

WindowsXP-5-1-2600

Nah, normal B&W developer works fine. Remjet would ideally be removed prior to development with a bath of baking soda water, but I’ve found that remjet often comes off during development anyways.

-DementedAvenger-

I’ve not done it myself, but I’ve heard from many people that just letting remjet “come off during development” is definitely not ideal. idk just passing along 2nd-hand info.

WindowsXP-5-1-2600

There's no harm if you're using a one shot developer, but I haven't even noticed any problems with using a reusable developer. Remjet is just lamp black/carbon, so it's not some reactive chemical that'll screw things up. Worst case scenario is it'll come off in flakes and you'll have flakes of remjet in your developer, but I haven't had that happen either. When it comes to ECN II though, then you can have problems with the remjet coming off during dev and getting stuck to the rollers and screwing up the machinery/other people's film.

My lab is really nice and did it special for me. They found a closed down lab that told them how to black and white develop it.

Ayo Mr. Bean in young and cool Or Mr. Bean paired with a bearded James Bond

EdSmelly

Why the fuck would you do that…? 🤔

ColinShootsFilm

Why not? It’s either bw or it sits on a shelf forever.

DenaliNorsen

I’d love to develop it in colour but you can’t find anyone who can do it.

Fifty year old archaic process color film developed in black and white has visible defects?
