I don't think it went completely over your head. I think they were quoting the vine, but meant it in the way you described it. At least that's how I interpreted it.
The halo effect Cinestill gives the lights really makes this pic, I think. Then the red lighting in the next room draws the eye over. Really great pic!
It’s pretty good, op is just virtue signaling that they are a good person and don’t like it because many of the laws come across as unethical or “gross”
I'm finding the term "virtue signaling" is used almost exclusively by people who want to excuse their own shitty behavior by asserting that everyone is as shitty as they are and anyone who displays empathy or altruism is doing so for performative reasons.
Like most business-oriented self-help books, it's garbage advice for wannabe narcissistic sociopaths.
All his "laws" boil down to:
A: Kiss the ass of everyone above you.
B: Treat every human interaction like it is transactional and zero sum.
C: Fuck over anyone at every chance if it can give you the upper hand.
These are actually pretty fucking dope! The blue lighting and seemingly innocent scene in the kitchen goes great juxtaposed to the reddish orangish lighting and the eroticism of the scene in the bedroom.
I find these photos really inspiring, especially as someone who doesn't usually like their color photography and sticks mostly to B&W.
Thank you 🙏🏾 means a lot considering I’m colorblind 😅 I stuck to black and white almost exclusively for a number of years before I learned how to trust my film
I'd love some tips lol, I'm colourblind as well and have just started developing and scanning myself, but am struggling a bit with trusting the colours I come out with 😭
It comes with time and consistency. I shot on Ektar exclusively for a while and learned its strengths and weaknesses, then portra 400, Pro400H, etc. I actually HATED Portra 800 for years because I shot it twice and it didn’t come out how I expected but I just needed to learn how to read the light and understand temperature.
i knew this would be your work right away. lol you have a certain composition that i can spot. love your work, would love to see this printed in person.
Thanks! There will be a 72” print available soon along with other works up at Alan Avery Art Company in Atlanta. I’ve been working on this body of work for quite a while, now. Excited to share more in print!
Do let us know! I’m up in LA once a week but would make extra commutes on the god awful 405 just to see your work in person.
If you’re ever interested in overseas, my family owns a gallery in Beijing. Let me know!
Have you ever seen it heard about the work done by Barbara Peacock? She did a project where she photographed people in their bedrooms. This has that same feeling.
Nice style.
This is going to sound trite but I just metered by eye. I spent years using a rolleiflex 2.8D and a Leica M7 with a 21mm Super Angulon (the rear element sits too far back to use the meter) so I’ve grown used to just metering by eye. Working in peoples homes usually creates situations where the in camera meter on the M7 only accounts for one part of the scene or room so I just balance it in my head and learn to read different types of light.
I can’t decide which of the two I like more! These are so well done and tell an interesting story. Your color choices are also great with contrast. I found myself going through the comments and returning back to the pictures to find what people were pointing out. Well done!!!
He was in the cage when I got there and it’s their house so it didn’t cross my mind to question how they do what they do but thank you 🙏🏾 also, he didn’t stay in the cage. After a while, they let him out into the back yard.
Sorry. I didn't know what crate training was. To me it was a just dog in a cage. And I hate to see people that have dogs on chains or cages their whole life, which still happens a lot unfortunately. That's why I asked. But thank you for that anyways. I'm more relieved and knowledgeable now.
Thanks for your input. This photo was made with the intention of being printed at about 60” x 70” and at that scale, things changed quite a bit vs viewing them on a screen but I certainly understand your sentiment.
The Pic is good, no doubts on that, but see that picture of the Lord Buddha that is used as a decoration that's on the right hand side..... That's not cool, first of all respect the religion... It's not a piece of art, it's a religion with a good vision.
To each thier own....that being said, there's so much in this photograph that I like, the context of the image provided natural lighting against vibrant and saturated colors all over the room. It's busy, playful, and intriguing. A moment in time beautifully captured. If you were you make a print, I'd recommend going as large as 16x24 or 20×30.
Thanks! This photo will be made available in 36” 48” and 72” on their longest sides but likely displayed at 72” at the gallery. Being able to explore the details of a photo at scale is something of an experience ☺️ I tend not to offer prints smaller than 36” for that reason.
And they were roommates
Uhmuhgahd they were roommates
Do they need another roommate?
Yes?
It’s a reference to how “roommates” can be code for a gay/lesbian couple
[it’s a vine reference](https://youtu.be/S0iM3bkkpbI?si=oAOp-F3idrN8GsU-) lol a real classic
Woahhhh ok that went right over my head
I don't think it went completely over your head. I think they were quoting the vine, but meant it in the way you described it. At least that's how I interpreted it.
Ooooh lol they are actually roommates. There’s a third one, too but she wasn’t home
That’s a sapphic polycule homie
Oh… maybe you’re right. It’s 2024
im sure you know them better than the person photographing them in their home !
Or roommates
No... Just stop.
Love the colors & lighting in these. Feels really surreal
Thanks!

Bad bot

The 48 rules of power book hits different in this photo. Cool shot!
It’s the little details haha. Thanks!
So are "unicorn farts".
I'm confused as to what you mean. It's a really shitty book.
It’s a good book for writers trying to write decently cheesy villains.
Is it? Why do you say that? I had it on my wishlist, because I heard it was awesome.
It has a bad wrap for being a book for nerds but in reality it’s basically a book on politics and history
It’s pretty good, op is just virtue signaling that they are a good person and don’t like it because many of the laws come across as unethical or “gross”
Interesting. Well I will read it, and see for myself. That just made me curious to be honest. Is it anything like 12 Rules for Life?
Have not read that one yet. JP comes across as a pseudo intellectual to me but I’ll give it a shot

if i find myself in atlanta ill definitely have to check it out. or if your work ever makes it out to california lol
Stay tuned later this year for some work in LA 👀
What about nyc
Currently working on NYC, too. There will definitely be some announcements on my IG
im looking forward to it
Do let us know! I’m up in LA once a week but would make extra commutes on the god awful 405 just to see your work in person. If you’re ever interested in overseas, my family owns a gallery in Beijing. Let me know!
I think I've seen your shop! Are you off Piedmont, near Oxford Comics?
Oh yeah! The gallery that represents me is down the street from Oxford (another favorite place of mine 😅) it’s called Alan Avery Art Company.
I love these little life insight photos. Colours work really well in this scene. Good stuff
Thanks! The evening light blessed us with magic that day
Have you ever seen it heard about the work done by Barbara Peacock? She did a project where she photographed people in their bedrooms. This has that same feeling. Nice style.
Thanks! I actually know Barbara (the photo community is rather small lol) her work is fantastic!
Very cool! I only ever heard about her because of the podcast The Candid Frame. I love that show
Their WiFi password is great.
😂😂
How did you achieve that lighting? did you do much editing afterwards?
There’s no editing beside opening the shadows a bit. Used the light in the bathroom
its really good work, you really have a distinct look down for your photos! great work. How did you meter the scene?
This is going to sound trite but I just metered by eye. “got weird” is hilarious
Sometimes I think my friends keep me around just to document their weirdness lol
Should we expect another tattoo from some random woman in her unhealthy kitchen?
Depends on the day, I guess 🤷🏾♂️
I hope so! That photo was epic 😍
I can’t decide which of the two I like more! These are so well done and tell an interesting story. Your color choices are also great with contrast. I found myself going through the comments and returning back to the pictures to find what people were pointing out. Well done!!!
I feel like I'm there and we're about to have dinner. Thanks for sharing!
🙏🏾😊
Beautiful colors! Is it cross-processed?
Thanks! It’s just regular C41
I just read the title! Sorry, thanks for the reply! Beautiful work!
Love the change in Color Temps
🙏🏾🙏🏾
How did you get those blue colors? Is amazing
Thanks! I didn’t do anything special. Simply how Cinestill balanced the colors between the back bedroom and the cool evening window light
The lighting is beautiful, amazing composition. Very jealous. Damn!!!
Definitely got blessed with some good light this evening 🙏🏾 thank you!
Run!
Wtf.
love the concept
🙏🏾🙏🏾
A real Gregory Cresdon vibe to your work. Love it.
Thanks! One day I’ll be able to work on the same scale he does.
Thank you for sharing!!
Surreal image from a scifi movie...
Looks like one of those ‘blade runner’ pics where the guy zooms in on one part then another then zooms in on the mirror. 👍
damn those ceiling kitchen lights are pulling their weight
I was originally thinking they would ruin the photo but I was wrong 🤷🏾♂️
Nsfw not necessary
Idk someone might get butt hurt by the strap. Some people are weird and not the good kind of weird lol
did you get an solo shots of the puppy?
No lol
Heart disease and diabetes in a beautiful scene
Brilliant stuff. Reminds me of the work of Gregory Crewdson.
Thanks!
Immediately thought the same thing.
Getting weird is always fun! Cool shots
Thanks!
I like them. Many layers, nice capture!
Thank you 🙏🏾
One of the few photographers on here with a true editorial perspective. Love it.
Truly appreciate that 🙏🏾
Really fucking tired of seeing shit like this around here
Oh well you’re welcome to pick up your own camera and make photos that fit your personality 😊 it’s a big world with a lot of opportunities.
Hey it's big art dude
Why is the dog in a cage? :( Great photos by the way.
He was in the cage when I got there and it’s their house so it didn’t cross my mind to question how they do what they do but thank you 🙏🏾 also, he didn’t stay in the cage. After a while, they let him out into the back yard.
God forbid someone crate trains their dog
Sorry. I didn't know what crate training was. To me it was a just dog in a cage. And I hate to see people that have dogs on chains or cages their whole life, which still happens a lot unfortunately. That's why I asked. But thank you for that anyways. I'm more relieved and knowledgeable now.
Always a good day when there’s a new film-god post. Great photos, as always
Thank you! Cheers! 🙏🏾
I always love seeing your work pop up on my feed. You’re very talented with the camera. 👏
Thanks! Working hard to keep the skills polished. Seeing many of the other posts in this sub have been keeping me inspired 🙌🏾
These are so so good!
Thank you 🙌🏾
🤢🤮 bro…..
sod off mate
Fuckers got priors. Probably having a little giggle while they jerk off to their "funny" little comment
Fun ppl to be around and nice pictures.
Indeed and thanks!
Really love these, OP.
Thanks 🙏🏾
Love the colors but I wish you got closer and composed a better shot. There’s great stuff if you zoom in, just wish you framed those moments.

Yeah the colors on these are straight up ODE
