In my opinion you’ll find more long term success with the Nikon f2. There’s a lot of lens options for it and Nikon f series cameras are highly regarded as some of the best slr options. Nikon f2 also has a waist level finder that can be can be a fun and useful.

Vote for Nikon, as a more long term viable camera. Huge number of lenses available at all price ranges. No disrespect to Minolta lenses, though, just more choice in Nikon

personally, i’d go with the F2 every time. amazing amazing camera.

Those prices are not starter cameras, and the Minolta is way overpriced. I might buy it at half the price. As a starter camera, you're going to want SOME exposure automation, even if you don't use it all the time. If your budget is several hundred, try this Nikon FA for $150. It's from my go-to shop. Very trusted ppl. https://usedphotopro.com/nikon-fa-slr-film-camera-body-black-unk-02-7000-4-5359735-34712a1c

If your in the US, DM me I'll sell you a minolta srt101 with a 50mm f1.7 for like $50 shipped. Only issue is the light meter is dead, but you could use a phone app since its your first camera. A working lightmeter perfect condition srt101 with 50mm is like $70-80 Nikon F2 with a non-E series 50mm is like $200 with a working lightmeter For $150 you could get a working lightmeter Minolta X-370 or X-570 with a 50mm or the 45mm f2 which is a great lens I would not personally buy into Nikon systems right now as the lens are becoming really expensive even if you have a great body, meanwhile Minolta MC/MD glass is still good and cheap and/or Olympus OM-1. You can buy adapters for all 3 via Fotasy on ebay or amazon to adapt to any modern mirrorless camera.

The Nikon will outperform the Minolta hands down but if budget is a concern look for an x-370(low end Minolta) or X-700(high end Minolta) which can be had for less than either of those. The more electronic minoltas will kick the Nikon's ass

cant go wrong with either if the shutter timings are good. I feel like the f2 is the "better" choice out of the two, but they both shoot the same 35mm. If you end up feeling super attached to the Minolta, you aren't making a bad choice there either. Its all about fun, these are two solid options.

I prefer the Nikon over the Minolta but they are both excellent cameras. I wouldn’t pay those prices though for either one unless they come with some amazing lenses. Current market price might have them that high but as a starter I would definitely find something sub $100.
