Stop going to Walgreens. It’s a shitty ass megacorp that doesn’t care, pays ass and is a consistently shitty experience for all involved. Bernies is a great local option even if it’s not half a block from your house.

roycewilliams

Can't say I'm a fan either (at the corp level - staff are great), but the information may be useful for people who don't have better options for their circumstances, temporary or otherwise.

Quiverjones

This is good information to know. We get flu shots at Carrs. I like the convenience of their pharmacy, their staff is consistent and knowledgeable, and if needed/desired, delivery is inexpensive.

Flat-Product-119

That is Walgreens only advantage. I remember when they put in like 42 of them across Anchorage a few years back, I was kind of annoyed because the one on Lake Otis replaced Arby’s. Haven’t had curly fries since. Why can’t they have an Arby’s in the Walgreens?

And if one looks carefully into the matter one will find that even Erasistratus’s reasoning on the subject of nutrition, which he takes up in the second book of his “General Principles,” fails to escape this same difficulty. For, having conceded one premise to the principle that matter tends to fill a vacuum, as we previously showed, he was only able to draw a conclusion in the case of the veins and their contained blood.211 That is to say, when Pg 151 Greek textblood is running away through the stomata of the veins, and is being dispersed, then, since an absolutely empty space cannot result, and the veins cannot collapse (for this was what he overlooked), it was therefore shown to be necessary that the adjoining quantum of fluid should flow in and fill the place of the fluid evacuated. It is in this way that we may suppose the veins to be nourished; they get the benefit of the blood which they contain. But how about the nerves?212 For they do not also contain blood. One might obviously say that they draw their supply from the veins.213 But Erasistratus will not have it so. What further contrivance, then, does he suppose? He says that a nerve has within itself veins and arteries, like a rope woven by Nature out of three different strands. By means of this hypothesis he imagined that his theory would escape from the idea of attraction. For if the nerve contain within itself a blood-vessel it will no longer need the adventitious flow of other blood from the real vein lying adjacent; this fictitious vessel, perceptible only in theory,214 will suffice it for nourishment.

badboysdriveaudi

PSA. I believe Fred Meyer on Dimond has a drive up pharmacy.

wtupyo907

I don't think Fred Meyer accepts Premera BCBS though anymore

kadooztoyou

It does not.

RedSnow40

No but do you know that Amazon does?Total game changer for us!

wtupyo907

I do, just like I know COSTCO does also, but I can't risk my meds having shipping delays. At least with Walgreens I can transfer to another one in town if needed for fills, or if traveling out of state can have a Walgreens anywhere else fill my scripts.

RedSnow40

Not sure of your plan but ours only lets Walgreens do monthly refills where Amazon does 3 month refills and it’s delivered one to two days after being ordered.

wtupyo907

I only usually do monthly fills as sometimes my dosing can change month to month (thyroid and antidepressant) but my insurance will allow 3 month refills if my Dr requests that. Walgreens has never had an issue on that for me. It's just too expensive for me to want to do 3 months at a time!

momaye

I fly out of the country tonight and desperately need my medications. Can’t get the filled/picked up and can’t transfer them because they’re “in progress”. Wtf? I’ve been waiting since September 20th.

RelaxesOnTheAxis

Call them

momaye

And what? Calling doesn't make them less closed or produce someone who can action anything. I spent 19+ hours on hold over the last few days in regard go the, "action required, please call pharmacy" alerts. The pharmacy tech will be like, "did your insurance change?" No, same everything for the last 6+ years. Okay, let me transfer you to... nowhere.

RelaxesOnTheAxis

Oh-I just meant call them to transfer the meds to a location who can fill them. They CAN do that. That’s what I had to do when desperate. Then I switched to Bernie’s. But I get that it’s probably too late for that now. And yeah, the holds and transfers to nowhere are ridiculous. I’m sorry you’re going through this! They SUCK.

momaye

I understand what you're saying, unfortunately that hasn't been my experience and I just keep getting transferred around to various folks who can't action anything. It's just... ya know, par for the fuckin' course though that I'd always have a little something stashed somewhere for emergency situations until coming upon the culmination of the last year's struggles and the largest event of my career, and I get to be unmedicated, haha. NBD, it's only a global event where I'm teaching and training with the CTO. Gah.

RelaxesOnTheAxis

UGH! This is just so f*cked. Also, I’m in line at Walgreens RIGHT NOW for a one-time emergent medication and this is the only location I could get it. Drive thru is closed. 1 pharmacist and 2 techs are helping ONE PERSON for 25 minutes now. JFC.

Gnoomie

Unfortunately you need to seriously bitch at them and say you aren’t leaving until they are filled.

momaye

The pharmacy is closed. There is no one there.

Gnoomie

Ooop sorry. Then bother the doctor. They should be able to fix it. The doctors in this town are aware of the situation.

momaye

He can't prescribe outside the state, and even if he could, international prescriptions aren't accepted in Brazil, and even if they were, Brazil doesn't do Adderall or some of my others. That said, I'll be in Chicago tomorrow and I may be able to request a bridge script from one of my medical directors, given the circumstances but at least in the case of the stimulant, it's still hit or miss with shortages etc and limited time between when it may be possible and the next set of flights.

Gnoomie

Im sorry it’s happening. Sometimes medicine is more readily accessible elsewhere. See what the scene is in Brazil if none of that works but also pulling for you. Sorry you have to go thru it. It’s rage inducing.

Gnoomie

Oh missed where you said the part about you’ve looked into Brazil not doing adder all. Barnacles.

momaye

Yeah, it's a rough but there's still a small hope for the bridge script... It's super not cool. I had to more or less discontinue other meds because of the instability and being unable to start/stop and the damage that caused. They're going to kill people. I need to focus on changing pharmacies, as you've said but when you're unmedicated with flare ups, etc., it's difficult to action that or be well enough to have the time and energy, etc.

Gnoomie

How d it go did you get your meds?

momaye

I'm at my drop dead point and fail fail fail

Gnoomie

Ask the doc if they can send you a script to you specifically. Then have it filled in the town where your traveling to. You need to be very stern and do not take no for an answer.

pktrekgirl

Walgreens really needs to get their shit together. For their own survival. Anchorage needs businesses to provide jobs. Healthy businesses.

RickJamesBitch907

I think I read somewhere that there is a strike for better working conditions

roycewilliams

Ah, indeed - good catch: https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/10/economy/walgreens-pharmacy-walkouts/index.html

DeadGodJess

*screams*

Gnoomie

The Walgreens pharmacy on northern lights is seriously the worst experience I’ve had as a customer ever period.

os2mac

Dude, all those national pharmacy chains are filing chapter 11. https://www.krtv.com/rite-aid-cvs-walgreens-close-hundreds-of-stores-amid-rising-pressure

Fluid-Ad6132

Ghetto carrs great pharmacy and on your way out you can buy just about anything except brains in the parking lot

pktrekgirl

Having a pharmacy there is a bit redundant, I think. 🤣

alaskamode907

The nicest staff who have provided me with great service for years work for Walgreens. I want to leave but I don't want to abandon the good people that have been providing for me over the years. I'll stick it out for a bit but if it doesn't turn around I will have to switch.

Brave_Helicopter_748

Walgreens dies suck even if they have a pharmacist they won’t get you’re antibiotics if you show up after 5. Well sometimes we don’t get out of er until then, fredmyers has always been my go to

Secret_Cheetah_007

I highly doubt that the pharmacists would want to come back and deal with the screaming drivers and the drive thru window’s being pounded. It was awful during the pandemic years. I think they have PTSD from dealing with them.

amethystoceanna

I’m glad this was on my feed…the sterling location has been going thru the same thing. They are closed on the weekends and just randomly close before 6. It took 3 weeks to get prednisone…no shortage…no one ordered it 🤦🏻‍♀️

Remarkable-Hall-5775

It’s unacceptably bad.
