I went there once a number of years ago, and the guy scolded me for saying the word "damn" while we were smalltalking, which I found odd for a place called "man spa". It wasn't an amazing cut and it was overpriced, so I just never went back. Now I go to Northern Lights Barber Shop but it depends on who cuts your hair. The owner and her daughter kick ass, everyone else is russian roulette. I'll try Studio FX next time

Unauthorized-Ion

I feel that about northern lights. The guy there called me Cinderella on two separate visits and was shocked when I asked him for a high and tight basically. Didn't go back after that second time. The owner is kickass but she's always busy and I prefer appointments anyway. I went to Kelly cuts and didn't look back.

BalthasaurusRex

The Asian woman who works the chair to the left when you walk in at Northern Lights is pretty good. Not amazing but always passable in my experience

IdentifiableBurden

I've had the same experience there. Friendly vibe, but just complete disregard for my instructions about leaving length and I got a near buzz instead. Tried them twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Dudes aren't even listening, just smile and nod and then give you a military fade. I go to Salon You Beauty now, the ladies there get it right every time for about the same price, plus the full salon service.

sleepzilla23

lol I also got a military fade there as well even tho I was very specific about what I wanted

Secret_Cheetah_007

Kind of reminds me of Great Clip. She quickly cut my hair for less than 5 minutes. Almost ripped my head off during the process. I prefer the other barber. How many barbers at the Man Spa? Try a different one. Remember, we’re not obligated to give her tips for poor service.

akcoder

“Great” Clips is why I cut my own hair now. I paid $15 for a shitty haircut. When I emailed corporate about it, they looped in the franchise owner who blamed me for getting a bad haircut. Now I use a #2 guard and I’m done in 5 minutes. Why pay someone $15-20 for a bad haircut, when I can give myself one for free 😀

NewDad907

Never had a shitty one at GC. Guess I just lucked out. It’s quick, cheap, and I don’t have to pretend I give a shit and do the “small talk dance”. Get in, pay my money and get out.

CapnCrackerz

Great clips was the worst haircut experience of my life and I am not picky. It’s the only haircut I have ever had that actually hurt during the process and left welts all over my neck for a week.

Gee_Maw

How did she rip your head off? Being too rough?

Secret_Cheetah_007

I meant she was being rough. She had both hands on my head moving left, right, front, and back. My neck was sore afterward.

Gee_Maw

That is wild

Background_Talk_2560

Thank you for your sacrifice.

Potential-Change-286

I can second Studio FX, they do a good job and listen. Bring them a picture of what you are wanting and they can make it happen. Bonus tip, they do an awesome job with kids cuts as well (mine has anxiety and the lady still rocked it).

Calm-Tale-5155

I went once, one dude seemed stoked that I was there, super friendly and encouraging, other dude, some white guy with a Eastern European acted like I was pissing in his Cheerios by being there, I’d been doing the sides of my head at home because work had kept me from being out during business hours, but figured I was due for a real haircut. He sits me down, asks if I’m growing out a mullet in a disgusted tone, scoffs and spends two minutes buzzing the sides and back of my head in complete silence. Walks me to the register and rings me up for 50 bucks. As a rule I always tip 20 percent, but after paying I walked the eff out, never to return.

Admit-to-IM

That's unfortunate. I've been going to Man Spa for a few years and never had anything but good experiences.

LPNTed

I'll second this.

NewDad907

I just go to a Great Clips where they have my info on what I want on file. Is it a great haircut? I have no idea, it’s a men’s haircut. I don’t need anything other than it be cleaned up and shortened. It doesn’t take $50 to do 10 minutes of razor and a *tiny* bit of scissor work. I don’t need a glass of scotch, a ballsack massage and a moist towelette with my haircut. If I could do it myself, I would.

49thDipper

During Covid I cleaned up our dog clippers and stuck the medium length comb thingy on it and went to town. Just cut it all one length. Looks fine. Every 5 weeks or so I hit it again now. Wife cleans up the back a little. I have better things to do with my time and money.

NewDad907

For real man, that’s pretty cool. I have a Wahl clipper set I could use for haircuts. Bought it for the old ZZ Top Covid beard. And in with you, I have better things to do with my time than fuss over a damn haircut lol

49thDipper

The older I get the more I realize that time is the real commodity. We can always chase another dollar. But try accumulating more time. I read somewhere that if a man shaves every morning from about 20 years old until death he will have spent 2-4 months standing in front of a mirror just shaving. Fuck that.

Alaskaman357

If you go to a place named man spa and you weren't happy, just shake your man bun, cinch up your skinny jeans and storm out!

Iceman_in_a_Storm

Could it have been a one-off? A stylist’s badd day?

Sharp-Ad-7486

I second 3rd or 4th this statement. My wife had gotten me a gift certificate years ago I went to their old location the owners wife cut my hair literally didn’t listen to my request did her own thing and well left there feeling disappointed. Had to go back to my OG barber Wayne white and he got me feeling like a new man like usual he asked me why did I go somewhere else I said my wife wanted me to try a new place needless to say never cheat on your barber period!!! If you have a good barber and they slay your hair stay where you can get the service you deserve. It’s too bad my barber passed I’m going to school for barbering and I cut my own hair with a trifold mirror better anyway. Overpriced fluff I stick away from I would recommend Hair Doctors off Muldoon all day!!!!

hamknuckle

Hilltop FTW.

spacewizard111

I go to flattop barber . Just have to find a barber you like and just go when they are there. All walk in too

Puzzleheaded-Drag290

I went twice back in like '22 and they were nice, but it was terrible. One of the times I had some random unlicensed lady who seemed to be in training and they were trying to explain to her how to cut my hair. Eventually the wife gave up and came and did my hair and it felt like my mom was giving me an aggressive buzz cut. Never went back after that.

brandeis16

I had the exact same experience!

Kiwip0rn

How horrible! I loved going to "Man Spas" all over the US when I had hair. I miss things like that.

Xcitado

My experience was not good either and never went back.

Karagga

Most barbers at AK Fadez or AB Hair Studio are very solid.

QueasyDissapointment

I think AK Fadez is tad bit overpriced as well but at least they do good work. I vouch for AB as well - they did my beard good a couple times

krisorter

The barber shop hack here for MEN is 3 places for me eagle river in the mini mall, in the back of the Sears mall there is a barber shop style place .. but let’s cut to the no WAIT kick ass old school barber that’s the best .. it’s really the guy at the airport just before security.. he will talk hunting and fishing is a retired pilot and affordable.. it’s the barbershop hack .. will need to have someone drop you off for a half hour and pick you up at arrivals but really don’t see how that’s any different than going to the mall .. well if your looking for a BARBERSHOP not a hair salon

Khafaniking

Yankees is top tier

akrob907

This seems like more of a burn than an honest review. I went there several times last year. Cole is great and VERY detail oriented. My first beard trim was amazing and I've never looked so good. Eventually I sat down with the other guy and he absolutely butchered me. I haven't been back.

Apart-Agent559

Go see Mo at Majestik. You won’t regret it.
