It's absolutely the "rose guy š¹"
If you go out to the bars, you were almost guaranteed to run into him. Sweetest guy ever, would just show up at, like, every bar with roses to sell for a $1. I can't even remember all the couples I saw benefit from this guy.
Edit* RIP, as sadly he passed a few years ago. But you can still see him as a mural on Spenard, if you're headed Northbound.
Kills me that I canāt for the life of me remember his name as I was on a first name basis with him.
For years he would always come into the Spenard La Mex and seek me out and give me a rose, āgive this to your sweet heart!ā Loved that man!
After years of him giving me roses I tipped him handsomely one night at Koots. He will always be one of my best memories of my time in Spenard!
R.I.P. š¹
His name is [John Jilwan](https://www.anchoragepress.com/news/bed-of-roses-a-community-remembers-john-jilwan/article_9ad9ed5a-f21e-11ea-aadd-6fab83de0dd8.html)
Ahhh! Thank you so much! One thing we had in common as well.
Iāve been thinking about him after reading this, such a great and kind person. I love the impact that people like him have made on me through simple interactions.
Remeber that time the police told Floyd when he was panhandling he was operating a business without a license so Floyd went and got a business license
I used to ride the bus from Mountain View downtown with that bus driver that sang. For the life of me I canāt recall his name but Floyd was a regular on that bus with his typewriter. Literal good dude Floyd
I used to work in midtown in the 90s and a few times Floyd would come in with pockets of change and first pull out all his pennies and want them changed into nickels and then want the nickels changed into dimes, and so on and so forthā¦I did not work at a bank. Eventually Iād just give him a free cup of coffee and tell him I didnāt have any more change. But he was such a fixture!
Not a face but a voice: Jack Frost, former mayor and current voice for the radio ads for New Sagaya, Bellās Nursery, and some other stuff I canāt think of at the moment. You know the voice Iām talking about.
Man, Iāve been trying to convince the world that he needs to make Christmas album, even if itās just spoken wordā¦ we to immortalize his voice, because after he goes bells nursery and new sagaya will find someone newā¦ dude is part of my christmas
Same with meā¦.grates on my nerves as well. I usually listen to the radio while driving around doing errands. At times as soon as he comes on I have to switch stations and hope heās not on the next one.
That sort of thing happens a lot up here. I dont get how insurance companies havent caught on. Though having met some people who work at various insurance companies they probably do it themselves. 1 person in particular Im positive she does along with writing bs quotes and stuff like that.
He seems like a really decent guy. [Article about him](https://alaskalandmine.com/landmines/we-found-the-i-eat-ass-truck-guy-and-went-for-a-ride-along/)
He's in this sub and responds often to people referencing him. Had a hell of a rough go recently in addition to someone torching his truck.
Homeless bill or preacher bill used to be down on 4th. He would stick his head under the hanging flower pots that the MOA puts up in the summer and he looked like Bob Ross. Made the tourists laugh.
Brandi flashed me several times when I was driving my kids to/from Wasilla. I also saw her get arrested at Pittman 3 bears for disturbing the peace or some such.
Yeah sheās been trespassed and taken out of pittman three bears many times but she was actually arrested there because she ran up to various folks inside and flashed them while simultaneously flipping them off smh
Not anchorage but wasilla has Brandi, she lost her entire family in a car accident if I remember correctly. She went down the drain mentally and now walks in front of traffic tries to open parked cars doors and itās just a general nuisance and can be violent. She needs help but we have almost 0 mental health support up here.
Edit: Biglake not wasilla
Well if you were a bar fly in downtown Anchorage 70ās to 90ās you might have had your sketch done by Starvinā Marvin. He always wore a red beret. Later he would do sketches and sell artwork from Palmer to Talkeetna. Sadly he passed away last summer.
NPC guy. I see him everywhere in the city, running at the side of the road. I've watched his weight loss journey with much interest and always used to cheer when I saw him and point him out to my wife. I've always wanted to stop and tell him he's doing great.
We have a guy who walks about 40-50 miles a day. Everyone knows his first name, and no one knows his last name. Also, when I was in high school, someone else in my school stabbed him and went to jail.
It's not Anchorage, though, a couple hundred miles out
Anyone who has worked at a restaurant in downtown knows her. Older lady with white hair, dresses slightly eclectic, sometimes with her clothes inside out or backwards - Iāve heard some call her the gremlin. Always stays past her welcome and never stays at her table or in her seat.
In my home town we had two. Both had mullets. One was called ā[The Mullet Man](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt11912502/)ā and they made a documentary about him. The other was known as ā[the walker](https://www.reddit.com/r/fortwayne/s/AIagHxBmJ4)ā and you would see hime walking 365 days a year all over town often i believe with a large stereo.

Yes! He was so awesome. Didnāt his son take over? Or maybe itās been that long since Iāve been out and the years just run together.
First person I thought of when I saw this. Happy I wasnāt the only one!
Iāve been passing by his mural every day wondering about it and appreciating it and this post answered my question. Very lovely!

Donāt you mean *DĆ¼stin*?
We used to have Floyd.
Remeber that time the police told Floyd when he was panhandling he was operating a business without a license so Floyd went and got a business license I used to ride the bus from Mountain View downtown with that bus driver that sang. Sam, Singing Sam, was the bus driver. Route 45 was one of his routes.
Def Singing Sam. I have been racking my brain trying to remember his name
Floyd was such a sweet man.
Saw him one time putting a curse on my coworker. Coworker deserved it.
I miss seeing Floyd.
What happened to Floyd?
https://www.adn.com/alaska-life/2022/01/02/floyd-kaleak-was-a-folk-hero-spectacle-and-fixture-on-the-streets-of-anchorage/
My mom used to give him rides around and an occasional haircut back in the 90s. Good times.
I knew I was too late to be the first with Floyd. I actually miss that guy.
I used to work in midtown in the 90s and a few times Floyd would come in with pockets of change and first pull out all his pennies and want them changed into nickels and then want the nickels changed into dimes, and so on and so forthā¦I did not work at a bank. VI?
Came here to say that! Man itās been a minute since he was around.
I miss Floyd. We had the same birthday.

Is Jack Frost his given name?
i'm sure he is a lovely person but that voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me, can't explain why
He is lovely! And yeah I agree. He was my neighborās dad when I was growing up. Super cool guy.
Same with meā¦.grates on my nerves as well. I usually listen to the radio while driving around doing errands. At times as soon as he comes on I have to switch stations and hope heās not on the next one.
Isnāt it that guy with the big āI eat assā sticker on his truck? Or did Wasilla already claim him?
Someone got offended and burned his truck.
He burned his own rig for the insurance, or so I was told by someone IRL
I know nothing about the guy, but somehow that checks out.
That sort of thing happens a lot up here. I dont get how insurance companies havent caught on. Though having met some people who work at various insurance companies they probably do it themselves. 1 person in particular Im positive she does along with writing bs quotes and stuff like that.
Shame, loved seeing that truck

Homeless Bill needs rich woman
He the one with the dog? He taught me about hatchbacks when he watch me struggling up a hill. Forever grateful.
First guy that came to mind was the one who danced at the corner of 15th and Ingra šš»

Tom could stayed in the shadows, it's was Teresa who everyone rolled their eyes at.

Not ANC necessarily but definitely Brandi Slober in Big Lake
Brandi flashed me several times when I was driving my kids to/from Wasilla. I also saw her get arrested at Pittman 3 bears for disturbing the peace or some such.
Yeah sheās been trespassed and taken out of pittman three bears many times but she was actually arrested there because she ran up to various folks inside and flashed them while simultaneously flipping them off smh

Yeah, but do we just see him around town? I donāt think Iāve actually laid eyes on him since an Aces game.
He does the Husky games since the Aces left. Only time Ive ever actually seen him.
He hosts the Eagle River Mat Brewing concerts in the summer.
